“Arlington”

From reader S., a YouTube Memorial Day video tribute set to “Arlington,” by Trace Adkins:

***

President Obama, as you know, is enjoying basketball and barbecue this Memorial Day weekend in Chicago.

Let’s hope his staff has straightened him out on the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day by now.

I agree! The most respectful thing Obama could do is stay away from a military cemetery on Memorial Day.

The last thing I want to see is the “Pretender-in-Chief” pretending to respect the military and our fallen warriors.

Obama will probably spend this Memorial Day with a real domestic terrorist, his buddy Bill Ayers, laughing at the damage they have done to this great nation.

It’s too bad that not all Americans remember what Memorial Day really is about. For many it’s just a weekend at the lake or a 3-day weekend. For without those that sacrificed they would probably not be living in the greatest country on the planet! God bless our troops and bring them home safely.

I have been blessed to be able to visit Arlington three times in my life.

The first time was a week before I left for Vietnam. The Second and third were when I went to Washington D.C. to pay my respects on the Marine Corps Birthday, and Veteran’s Day.

May God Bless America, and may we never forget those buried at Arlington National Cemetery, and all other National Cemeteries across out nation! … Amen

Mr Obama can stay in Chicago with all his entrepreneurs. He has no business at Arlington. Joey B. can go to the shore today. He has no business there either.

Maybe peebho can invite stretch, dingy harry, ellison, stuart smalley and all the rest can eat some arugula and waygu while sipping on whatever they sip on while clebrating the destruction of our nation….

I think of the words of “La Marsiellaies”:

    Arise children of the fatherland
The day of glory has arrived
    Against us tyranny’s
    Bloody standard is raised
Listen to the sound in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers
They are coming into our midst
To cut the throats of your sons and consorts

    To arms citizens
    Form your battalions
    March, march
    Let impure blood
    Water our furrows

What do they want this horde of slaves
    Of traitors and conspiratorial kings?
    For whom these vile chains
    These long-prepared irons?
Frenchmen, for us, ah! What outrage
    What methods must be taken?
It is us they dare plan
To return to the old slavery!

    What! These foreign cohorts!
They would make laws in our courts!
    What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would cut down our warrior sons
    Good Lord! By chained hands
Our brow would yield under the yoke
The vile despots would have themselves be
    The masters of destiny

    Tremble, tyrants and traitors
The shame of all good men
    Tremble! Your parricidal schemes
    Will receive their just reward
Against you we are all soldiers
If they fall, our young heros
    France will bear new ones
Ready to join the fight against you

    Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors
Bear or hold back your blows
    Spare these sad victims
That they regret taking up arms against us
    But not these bloody despots
    These accomplices of Bouillé
    All these tigers who pitilessly
    Ripped out their mothers’ wombs

We shall enter into the pit
When our elders will no longer be there
There we shall find their ashes
And the mark of their virtues
We are much less jealous of surviving them
    Than of sharing their coffins
We shall have the sublime pride
    Of avenging or joining them

    Drive on sacred patriotism
    Support our avenging arms
    Liberty, cherished liberty
Join the struggle with your defenders
    Under our flags, let victory
    Hurry to your manly tone
So that in death your enemies
See your triumph and our glory!

My father fought the Japanese in the Pacific and would have been part of the invasion of Japan had we not used the A-bomb to end the war. Millions of Japanese and thousands of Americans would have died in the invasion no doubt. This president uses snide remarks about our treatment of the Japanese and our use of the ultimate weapon to show his contempt for America. I don’t want to hear a word from him about sacrifice, or duty, or honor, or love of country, or anything else. Not this week-end. Not one word.

I join those who agree Obama is unworthy to set foot – or basketball sneaker – on the sacred ground of Arlington. For those with an interest in history, I am about finished reading a spectacular book on the history of Arlington National Cemetery named “On Hallowed Ground – the story of Arlington National Cemetery”, by Robert M. Poole.

Lastly, in my one and only plug for my blog, I just added a special post in honor of those brave men who gave everything for our freedom. Read it HERE

Not the guy who at 18 was snorting Coke, and as an adult wouldn’t put his hand over his heart for the Pkedge of Allegiance? I often get them confused. No wait – I don’t.

Courage comes when someone embraces a cause higher than themselves – defence and protection of family, friends, freedom, nation…

This is why Barry and Arlington are a contradiction of terms. If you are enamored with yourself, your quest will be self preservation and aggrandizement. Community organizing is a nice thing I suppose, but I don’t ever recall a community organizer laying down their life for the cause.

I dont know why Reagan and Bush didnt go, it certainly was NOT from lack of respect for the military and their sacrifices or from lack of regard for their country.
