I spoke to a biker and Verteran the other day who said he and his son were going to DC this weekend for the Rolling Thunder Rally and visit the the Wall. I said offhand, with any luck the President might show up. Well, he went off on a ten minute rant that was priceless! He and I shared many an Unpresidential anecdote that in it’s totality, was rather sad in displaying what a pathetic leader of this Country we now have. To all our brave soldiers past and present, I thank you.

All of my family is Military connected.

Sometimes I wish there was a rule for the CIC to have 4+ years of Military Service to qualify for the position.

Bless those who gave all and those past and present Serving.

I hope after Memorial Day that the mainstream media remembers the sacrifices of each serviceperson protecting our far flung energy supplies as much as each oily bird who are poster creatures for keeping us from obtaining energy from our own resources than regions that loathe us.

I didn’t know. I had no idea that so many didn’t come home. I cried as I was watched the endless crosses in cemetaries all over the globe on the Memorial Service tonight.

Thank you to each and every one of you. Those gone. Those still protecting us. You have our everlasting gratitude.

In all these Memorial Day threads, there is nothing I can say that wasn’t said by Lincoln at Gettysburg. The “unfinished work” he spoke of remains unfinished, that government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth.

Saturday night my wife and I were having dinner in a local restaurant. There was a biker group there. They were from veterans from Tennessee and were participating in Rolling Thunder 2010. Their patches and rockers identified them as a Christian bike club. One came over and talked to me and asked me about my t-shirt. My shirt says “Got guns?” and I got it from a local gun shop. We talked he went back to his table and I resumed eating. Then something occurred to me – why not pray with them? As they were checking out, I approached one guy, told him I was a minister and would they like for me to pray with them before they leave. They did, and I did. We got together, held hands and prayed in the parking lot. I got to know some really great people that night.

Unfortunately, severe asthma prevented me from joining the military. But, I see the point; only those who are willing to give their all to this country should have a say in how it should be run.

There is a group called the Christian Motorcyclist Association. They even have a New Testament written just for bikers. I work with a member of that group, and he gives those Testaments to me and I redistribute them to friends of mine who ride.
I am a Southern Baptist Christian who rides a 2006 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883. I don’t know if I am a “Biker”, since I am clean shaven, no tattoos, short hair, seldom swear, and don’t drink. But, I just really enjoy “getting in the wind.”

Mr. B- Thank you for praying with my brother and/or sister bikers. You may never know what that meant to them but it means a ton.

Also, while I would agree that the commander CinC should have some military background I would not make it a condition to hold office. Our founding fathers didn’t deem it necessary so leave it alone. We the people can, through our vote, regulate that. We failed as a nation this last election to give our service men and women a leader. We have what I call a human spoon. Someone who just keeps stirring it up.

I would put more restrictions on those who are responsible for electing people to govern. I say that if you are being supported by the taxpayer, i.e. on welfare, you don’t get to vote until you are off it. Currently there is no penalty for sucking off the public teat till it dries up. Mamma always said, “If you don’t work, you don’t eat. And life isn’t fair.”

BTW, many of those bikers who show up at Rolling Thunder participate in the Run For The Wall. It is a ride from coast to coast and takes about ten days to complete. They ride through rain or shine, hot or cold just to honor our heroes. God bless them all.

I am the chapter president of Christian Motorcyclists Assn. chapter here in NM. The New Testament is called “Hope For the Highway”. It is what it says it is- hope for the highway.

There is a saying: $15 grand and 15 miles does not make you a biker. Well, niether does the long hair, beard, tattoos, and foul mouth. It is the desire to ride that makes us bikers. So, brother, throw your leg across that saddle, get your knees in the breeze, and ride!

Me? I ride a Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 LT and I ride for the Son.

In Starship Troopers, it was clear that anyone who wanted to serve would be given a chance. Something would be found for a person who could not join the military. Personally, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to have here. We have far too many people who have no idea just how good their life is in this country.

    Puhleeze… Rolling Thunder?

I’ve had it with the “see how loud I am” bike crowd. Someone please tell me how a bunch of Hell’s Angel wannabees rattling windows for miles around honors our vets?

Myself, I’ve owned and ridden five bikes – a lot of miles. All were quiet road bikes and I road for my enjoyment. I didn’t ride to make a statement or bother my neighbors. Riding twisty country roads on a crisp fall day must be better than flying. For others, a crisp, QUIET, fall day is heaven – who am I do disrupt it?

If we really and truly want to honor our vets in ways that counts, let me make a few suggestions:

    1. Stop electing politicians who get us into pointless wars with rules of engagement more suited to a nursery school than a war zone.
    2. Stop electing politicians who slander our troops in order to ingratiate themselves with leftist wingnuts and enemy leaders.
    3. Start electing politicians who recognize war for what it is: asking our best to do terrible things to advance our interests. As such, our interests need to be narrowly defined. And leaders that send people to war must be willing and ready to defend the troops’ honor (hear that, W?) instead of sacrificing young lives to “win hearts and minds”. Above all, our enemies must fear us.
    4. Start taking responsibility for our own lives; start raising our children to be responsible adults (meaning the adults need to stop acting like they’re still in high school).
    5. Start learning and then defending our culture and history. Have we as a country been guilty of evil and wicked acts? Yes, we have. But, almost alone in history, we’ve recognized our misdeeds and worked hard to atone. We’ve also done great things – things to be proud of and that serve as a model for our future.
    6. Make every day Memorial Day.

Patriotism means love of country and a willingness to do the hard things needed for the nation to prosper. It does not mean dressing up like Joe Badass and riding around on a loud bike waving a flag. That’s nothing more than cheap grace.

    Going OT here:

Right on to that paragraph! Seems like every Harley has to be LOUD for some reason, the other thing that bothers me is how every Harley owner has to let you know he has one. See post number 15 for reference, 17 doesn’t count as it was in reply to it.I never need to interject what type of bike I ride as I just consider it motorcycle riding. I guess that makes them feel justified for getting hosed for the INFLATED price of their primitive bike.

My bike is quiet and I like it that way! I don’t care to hear the uncorked POS Harleys going down the highway either. They are SLOW ill handling and breaking garbage that most ride just to think they are cool. Stuff the thunder part, I’m more than over that crap, the rest that they represent is all good though.

You are right on brother. I am living in the land of mosquito born diseases. I have read they estimate that some 80 million people have died, due to said diseases, since DDT was banned by idiots. I pray all of the deaths are heaped upon thise idiots during their eternal stay in…

    On topic

I have been away but had to come back and visit for a spell just to say that I am so thankful for our brave service people and our Vets. Yahweh bless you!

Many of those “Hell’s Angels wannabes” for whom you seem to have distain put more miles on their bikes honoring those who have fallen than most of us put on our cars.

I don’t care much for HD but I’ll never begrudge someone the right to choose to ride one. You want it quiet? Fine. So do I. But when that bunch of loonies show up to a funeral to protest and call that fallen brother a fag, I’m glad there are loud bikes there to drown them out so the family can grieve.

So you ride your’s. I’ll ride mine. And why don’t we both let them ride their’s. No matter how loud they are.

And if that is the way you feel about the Patriot Guard Riders and other riders who ride in honor of the veteran I’ll ride with them.

PatriotRider – I think you missed my point. I don’t care what someone rides or drives (it’s a free country) – provided it doesn’t interfere with the rights of others.

To paraphrase John Wayne’s “J.B. Books”, I don’t do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.

…Got by Ft. Leavenworth early yesterday… the flags among all the grave markers takes one’s breath away. In the peace and quiet, the mind starts pondering the lives represented by all the markers and then – tears.

You look at some of the names… James, Stephen, Joseph… Who were they? What were they like? Who did they love? If they were lost in battle, how did the family bear the grief? Who were their friends? What did they do in the military? What did they do in civilian life? Were they comforted in their last minutes?…

I get it Bob. I can’t get through taps with a dry eye. I respect all those heroes for who they were and the sacrifices they made.

I also respect those still living who honor the brethren. Those who returned to be spit upon and called names. Those are the ones who, with their loud pipes, call attention to the procession of another resident of the final resting places of our defenders. These patriots will give their all to honor the fallen and stand silent, honoring your precious “peace and quiet”, when appropriate. I would also say that these “wannabes” adhere to your 6 point manifesto more than most.

No, Bob, I didn’t miss your point. I just didn’t agree with your fluff.
