Rush to the Altar — And the Wedding Singer Is…
**Written by guest-blogger Doug Powers
Rush Limbaugh is getting married today to Kathryn Rogers, and the “wedding singer” is none other than Elton John:
It’s wedding bells for Rush Limbaugh – for the fourth time.
The conservative firebrand, 59, will exchange vows Saturday in Florida with Kathryn Rogers – a blond bombshell half his age – in a lavish Hawaiian-themed wedding bash headlined by none-other-than Sir Elton John.
It’s an odd pairing considering El Rushbo’s history of anti-gay commentary on his conservative radio show and the openly gay “Tiny Dancer” singer’s longtime commitment to gay rights.
Some various blogs and news stories I’ve read so far mentioning Elton John being hired to perform at Rush’s wedding reception focus only on Rush’s staunch conservatism vs. Elton’s gay activism, comments about banning religion and liberal politics in general as being odd bedfellows — for lack of a better term. “Why would Elton John play at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding?” Simple: Capitalism:
The Palm Beach Post reported the British superstar will pocket $1 million for playing the wedding reception at the posh Breakers Hotel.
Without capitalism, Elton wouldn’t have performed at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding and Rush wouldn’t have been in the position to pay that much for the evening’s entertainment. Capitalism: It can bring people from all walks of life together.
I congratulate Rush and Kathryn, and also tip my Detroit Tigers cap to Elton John for performing at the wedding, because he’s got to know he’s going to take some heat for this in his left-leaning, artsy, environmentalist, gay-activist circle of pals — most of whom would gladly accept a million bucks from George W. Bush to tap dance on a floor made of California Redwood and elephant tusk or take whacks at a piñata in the likeness of Harvey Milk that Roger Ailes stuffed with cash. But they’d never admit it.

I don’t think Rush is anti-gay, but likely anti-gay-leftist, a particularly poisonous combination. Congrats to Rush.
Hope fourth times a charm, big guy. But you should have gone with Lou Reed, right guitarguy?
Best wishes to Rush. Kudos to capitalism. Works everywhere it’s tried.
Rush is anti-leftist — be they gay, straight or in between. The fact that the majority of gay people are NOT on the right side of the aisle is often used to paint conservatives as “anti-gay” when in fact they’re just against the political philosophy that most gay people subscribe to. The left uses the same method as “proof” that conservatives are anti-minority.
As for me, I don’t care who or what you do in your own house — just don’t ask me to look at it or pay for it if something goes bad and we’ll get along just fine.
I have listened to Rush since 1991 and never heard him utter one anti-gay word. Projection much on the writers part?
Well, his new bride better understand that Rush belongs to America. All this non-sense of him being off the whole week is depressing for me. Him living in sin wasn’t cool at all.
Best wishes to Rush, but he needs to get his butt back to work.
Elton John needs no money. The idea that he swallowed all his pride and core values to play for money is absurd. Sir Elton John could write you a check for a million dollars and not bat an eye.
It could just be that Elton John and Rush Limbaugh get along you know. Folks who actually meet Mr. Limbaugh are usually quite impressed and disarmed once they get to know him.
Mazel tov!
Rush: Keep your weight down, stay off the pills, and treat her like a lady = guarantees a long life of married bliss.
I paid $700 for two tickets to see Elton John with Billy Joel at an outdoor venue (Sydney Cricket Ground). Great seats, balmy Sydney, Australia full-moon spring evening. And I didn’t even have to get married.
I got the better deal.
Doug P: I’m with you on that one.
Rush never said he was anti-gay … The liberals say that. I doubt Rush cares.
I wish the two love birds well, and hope Rush doesn’t lose another house in the deal.
Congratulations Rush.
Men always want to be a woman’s first love. Women have a more subtle instinct: What they like is to be a man’s last romance.
-Oscar Wilde
Agreed. What I was trying to say and better stated.
And don’t try to get some law, amendment, or court decision passed so you can teach it to my 8 year old.
How can you expect an 8 year old to understand homosexuality when they don’t even understand their OWN sexuality?
…..Laurie Anderson woulda cut his nads off for even considering the offer…
Congratulations to Rush Limbaugh!!! Since a million dollars is petty cash to Elton John, there has to be (I would think) some respect that both have for each other. Otherwise I dont think Elton would accept the gig. An interesting story.
Congratulations Rush and Kathryn. I hope The Malkins were among the invited guests and Michelle does a post about the wedding.
Ditto Doug.
Congratulations and warm best wishes to the newly weds!
Rush and Kathryn,
May Almighty God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
give His blessing to you for ever and ever.
Amen
Congratulations to Rush and Kathryn. One of the reasons I love Rush is he makes me laugh. I never miss a day of his show. And he’s a Missouri boy. What’s not to like?
Rush you devil……..
Capitalism – where a guy marrying for the fourth time can make millions off of being a spokesman for conservatives.
He makes money with a radio show and not for being a spokesman.
“where a guy marrying for the fourth time can make millions off of being a spokesman for conservatives.”
Huh? Seems to me getting married is quite a conservative value. You saying a conservative can’t get divorced? Can’t make money?
Kinda goofy criticism there marco….
Thanks for saving me the time!
“for being a spokesman.”
I don’t think Rush would have an issue with saying he is a spokesman for conservatism. Why would that bother him? That’s what he is. The theme for the never ending education from the Dr. of Democracy is conservatism, yes?
Marco is trying to take a shot it seems but it doesn’t make any sense.
Odd… do I wear my Rush Limbaugh ties or do I burn them…..I thought his “third” wife was a great designer…. One would think if you can’t do it right after two marriages forget it….. but i wish him well…. I have no idea what is going on with the world as it is.
I hope you Rush and Kathryn have a long and happy life with each other. At least the cat and dog sorta getta long. I hope you do as well.
L
I think Marco was trying to be clever but…
Let me try:
Hey, Mikey, it’s easy! You try it!
BTW: They say sugar daddys live longer than cougars….
God bless Rush’s marriage and may it be his last one!! I wonder what songs Elton John sang? Inquiring minds want to know!
Rush needs to hurry back to his show…I go through withdrawal after just a couple days!! His guest hosts are great, but there is only ONE El Rushbo! Rush Hudson Limbaugh…mmm, mmm, mmm!!
*Best of luck to the both of them; Marriage is bliss, when it works!
*I’m sure P-BO is happy for them as well, since he gets a more than weeklong vacation from the truth teller laying him out bare for all to see; But I can hear P-BO now, saying, “On his wedding night, I hope he fails!
*If Elton sings “Tiny Dancer”, will he be referring to a certain Rushbo appendage?
Rush I wish you and your new wife the best! You deserve it! Thank you so much for doing what you do and how you do it. ENJOY!
I’m thinkin Ted Nugent wasn’t available cause he is THE baddest conservative musician ever! Rush has Catch Scratch Fever and Ted would have been great hehe.
God bless us every one!!!
Sorry, I got caught up in the moment.
Best wishes for much, and very well-deserved, happiness to Rush and his lovely new bride, Kathryn. May God bless their marriage.

I’m saying that being married 4 times is hardly a decent representation of the ideal of traditional conservative family values.
And yes, if it were up to me, divorce would rarely be an option, especially if there were children.
May the Limbaughs be happy, and live a long and healthy life.
As to the Elton thing, this shows the morality of capitalism; capitalists don’t care about extraneous crap. They want the best value. EJ is a massively talented person.
As is Rush.
Enjoy a few well-earned days, and hurry back to the Golden EIB microphone ready to work your magic, Rush.
Maybe not your ideal. You should try it from inside my head sometime, as against the alternatives.
Sometimes people can be really callous here.
Can you feel the love tonight!
I am surprised that Rush has decided to marry again. I believe a 4th marriage is normally referred to as the triumph of optimism over reality.
I am surprised that Elton John would be invited and would accept an invitation to play for Rush.
I wouldn’t think one million dollars would be a big concern or motivator to either Rush or Elton. In 2009 Elton John was estimated to have a network of over $250 million. Rush’s net worth is likely greater. I don’t think either made their decision solely based on money. The marginal utility of money comes in to play here. If you have $300 million that next million just isn’t as important to you, unless Sir Elton is cash-strapped…
Either way, I wish Rush and his bride well. I also wish Sir Elton well. He was one of my favorite artists growing up.
I agree with you Rags. I guess conservatives can be rough on their own. I guess some conservatives on this blog wouldn’t have liked the multiple marriages on my mom’s side of the family. I have four aunts and 3 of them have at least one marriage behind them. One of my aunts has the uncanny luck of marrying “well” multiple times.
Americans are in love with love… and marriage. I think it beats living together where the participants are under the impression that there are never any “strings” especially when there is a child involved. Then they get married and it’s all downhill from there.
Even my parents have struggled with their 30+ year marriage. There’s a 13 year age gap between them (Dad is a depression era baby and Mom is a baby boomer) and they struggled with the age difference. I’m not sure about the age gap between Rush and his bride but good luck bridging it.
Love is ageless, timeless, limitless.
Dr. Laura makes a lot of sense. Her four A calculus for justifiable divorce are, I think, spot on. Adultery, Addiction, Abandonment, and Abuse.
I’ve been married by far most of my 60 years, and I’ve filed for divorce three times from women I loved fiercely. I worked hard at being an excellent husband and father…and step father (one of the hardest things a man can do, IMNHO). Every divorce is a tragedy, but divorce can be the best of all bad choices.
As an attorney in general civil practice, it is my pleasure to help clients out of bad marriages, and to encourage them to stay in ones that have a chance of enduring.
There’s an article about Rush’s wedding on Yahoo’s front page featured stories. You should see the comments from the all the kind-hearted, open-minded and tolerant libs. Those people are disgusting.
If I’d had the money, Korn would have played at my wedding. I probably would’ve had to sleep on the suite couch that night, though…
We’re going to have to disagree on divorce. I don’t like seeing what easy divorce has done to the American family, and I consider the institution of marriage to be holy, not a convenience. (And nobody ever said it would be easy.)
Tsk, Tsk, Tsk………
Rush, Rush, Rush……
You cannot serve two masters……
I’m hoping the “well” there does not = for money, emjem.
To my thinking “marrying well” means two people got it right the first (and only) time.
Care to enlighten me as to when Rush has denounced re-marriage, Marco?
If I had the money, I would have had Rare Earth or Three Dog Night play at my wedding.
Our wedding “dance” was to That’s the Way I Like It by K.C. and the Sunshine Band.
The priest was not amused.
There’s nothing holy about staying married simply for the sake of staying married.
EJ is a massively talented person.
So is Paul McCartney, but now we know what a butt hole he is. And I sure would not have him at my wedding.
“Grow Some Funk of Your Own”?
“Postcards from Richard Nixon”?
“Honky Cat”?
“Bennies and the Jet”? (for Chap)
Every million takes five years off the guy’s age….
To Rush’s credit, he has not fathered a child in his past marriages, so there are no “abandonmnet” issues, etc. that come with divorce. Kudos to him for finding someone the cares for him, that he cares for, and that they want to create a life together.
I have been listening to his show since around 1991, and I have never heard him disparage gay people for being gay.
He also has always spoken respectfully of the women he has been married to or dated. He just doesn’t like feminazis, who does?
I can’t stand the way the left villifies people who are conservative. They always distort what the person says and always lie about the type of person a conservative is. Pfffft.
It is Sunday morning, way early Sunday morning, and I was not aware of this. Best wishes to the two of them. Since this areas, northern AZ, only AM radio station burned up the other day (not kidding), he would not have been on the air around here anyway for at least part of the coming week.
Most likely a very shrewd subtle business decision. But congrats — and good luck — to Rush anyway.

I’ve been listening to Rush fairly consistently for about the last year and half, and in all that time I have never heard him say anything even remotely anti-homosexual. About the only thing that could even remotely be construed (and mistakenly at that) as such is his goof song on Barney Frank, The Banking Queen, and that is more about Mr. Frank’s malfeasance and criminality regarding Fannie and Freddie.
At any rate, hearty congrats to Rush and his bride!
Rush should have hired Rush (the band) to play at his wedding.
Congratuations, el Rushbo!
Can Rush catch Larry King and Elizabeth Taylor in number of marriages? Only time will tell…
Elton John is a superb songwriter and excellent musician. Rush’s love of music is well known, and we know he doesn’t use politics as part of his criteria in judging music. His show’s use of “My City Was Gone” by the pretenders as their intro bumper being an example of that.
Elton John’s politics have bothered me in the past, but not so much that I couldn’t appreciate his music and talent. I’m glad to see that he can move beyond politics as well when it comes to his music, and I like him all the more for it now.
[Obi-won] Run Rush RUN! [/Obi-won]
Twice was enough for me.
“We’re going to have to disagree on divorce.”
Two different matters Marco. Is there something about being a conservative that makes divorce hypocritical is NOT the same as is divorce a good thing in general.
In your rush to bash Rush you seem to want to merge the two different ideas.
“I’m saying that being married 4 times is hardly a decent representation of the ideal of traditional conservative family values.”
Being married and not having a relationship out of wedlock isn’t a tradional conservative value?
You’re on fire Mr Powers
hahahahahaha.
Next party: check
He always looked up to Johnny Carson for his successful career, and it took Johnny four marriages to find the right one.
AWWWW Rush is getting married! That is so cool!! God bless him in his future with Ms Kathryn. As far as his wedding singer being gay, I do recall Elton John condemning same sex marriage being forced on the population. His alternate lifestyle is still perverted but as far as I know, he doesn’t try to force people to accept that what he’s doing is right. He’s one of those that lives in the sin and doesn’t try to justify it. If they would all do that, and stay away from kids, there would be such animosity towards them.
“I’m saying that being married 4 times is hardly a decent representation of the ideal of traditional conservative family values.”
There they go again, using Alinsky’s rules against us. “Hold themselves to their own values”.
How convenient that there ARE no values of marital or sexual fidelity among leftists and (especially) gays.
I wonder how many temporary “husbands” Elton has had over the years, between his one marriage to a woman and finally to a man: a few dozen, maybe?
Oh but that’s OK: he’s gay, you know….
“Hold themselves to their own values”
Sorry but being conservative means you are against divorce and remarriage?
Rush is a workaholic and that can be tough on a marriage. The guy’s first love is his job and I hope the new Mrs. Limbaugh understands that.
So will Justice Thomas be officiating again?
It took me 3 times to get it right.
I managed to get it right the first time but, alas, I fear my wife cannot make the same claim…
After his divorce from Marta, Rush seemed pretty uninterested in the idea of marriage. While I knew he was seeing some sweet young thing I didn’t realize he was about to get married. But, then again, Rush doesn’t discuss these things with me.
Personally, I cannot imagine a divorce, much less getting married after 3 divorces.
But, I wish Rush and his new bride well. I assume he spent a great deal of time and money on an iron-clad prenuptial agreement.
Somehow I don’t think he could get a girl like that without $300 million in the bank.
I just hope he has a better prenup than the genius Paul Mc Cartney.
After THREE divorces, you’d think Rush would do everything possible to minimize chances of getting divorced yet again. Instead, w/this one, he increased the chances she’ll be the next ex-Mrs Limbaugh by: 1)having her live w/him before getting married; 2)choosing someone half his age; & 3) choosing someone flaky enough to actually want that has-been Elton John to perform at their wedding even though he costs a fortune (I guess cost doesn’t matter as long as Sugar Daddy Rush is paying). Rush has great political savvy & insight, but he’s a clueless a-hole when it comes to relationships w/women.
Also, what a 4-star wimp Rush is for actually going along w/paying 1 mil for EJ just b/c his piece-of-@ss du jour wanted that. Pantywaist.
Johnny never did get it right. He & his last wife were separated when he died.
With his history, you’d think that Rush would ‘fess up and admit that he’s not good marriage material.
Optomists.
I, too, wish Rush and Katheryn the best of luck in their marriage.
Rush did, however, break his own rule with this marriage. That rule, which I admit I would have tried to follow after three unsuccessful marriages? Just buy her a house!
He did quite well for himself. Well done sir.
