Next on ‘When Congressmen Attack’ — Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-NC); Update: Sorry…that he got caught

You know when you go up to your member of Congress and ask if they support the president’s agenda how they almost always take a swipe at you and then put you in a semi headlock? Yeah, Democrat Rep. Bob Etheridge of N. Carolina did that to a student who approached him on the street.

Etheridge’s opponent Renee Ellmers’ campaign might get some advertising mileage out of this one (suggested slogan: “I’ll focus my swings on knocking out the debt instead of my constituents”):

Getting a little testy, aren’t they?

Newsbusters asks: Did Etheridge commit a crime? Well, Etheridge voted for the health care sham, so he may have done so long before he took a swipe at this kid.

Reminder for Democrats: If somebody comes up to you and expresses a concern for where their tax dollars are going, just do like Charles Rangel and say “None of your damn business” and walk away.

Update (MM): Bob “Headlock” Etheridge is sorry…that he got caught:

Rep. Bob Etheridge apologized Monday for his physical confrontation with two young men who identified themselves as students and asked if the North Carolina Democrat “fully supports the Obama agenda.”

“I have seen the video posted on several blogs. I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved.

Read the rest of his pathetic response, which blames “intrusive and partisan” politics for his behavior and ends with this triple-snorter:

“I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse.”

***

Help GOP challenger Renee Elmers send Bob Etheridge home.

Democrats blame the messenger.

Update 2:52pm Easter: Etheridge at apology presser…”All of us have bad days, but that’s no excuse.”

Update: More video via Breitbart via Hot Air.

BTW, facts don’t matter to Chappy.

Not always, but there are times that like me his desire to win exceeds his good sense.

So I think that I’ll just let him argue with himself.
If he prefers, he can just class me as another Collard greens, grits and white gravy eating, rednecked, chest thumpin’, “me Tarzan you Jane’in’ “, illiterate who clings to his Torah and his firearms and was too stupid and uneducated to avoid serving in combat with his country’s military.

So, he can continue to feel smug and superior.

    ssnark,

You know what is good? Try a little cane syrup with homemade biscuits. Mix a little butter in the syrup and break the biscuits into large pieces over the plate of syrup and eat with a fork.

Mississippi cane syrup is best but Georgia cane syrup will do…

That’s not bad. You can do the same thing using honey too. Mesquite and cactus flower honey is really good stuff but hard to find these days. Cane syrup that has a couple of Habanero peppers marinating in it is also good. But, I tend to like my biscuits with homemade white gravy using venison sausage. Makes my mouth water to think about it.

Bob’s a jerk, alright, but still. Kid could have told him where he was from and why he was asking. His reticense just egged Bob on. That may have been the point. Who WAS the kid and where WAS he from?

You are the one arguing that an institution that grew in its number of “participants” in the decade leading up to the civil war by 750,000 people was “dying” and I am the one exceeding my good sense?

I mean we can have an argument about what the proper definition of “dying” is, but there is no way one could argue that my definition is in anyway unreasonable. One can however, rightly question someone who thinks that it was dying simply because there were less overall slave owners.

Does agriculture as an industry “die” in an area where all the small, family farms are bought up by large corporate organizations? Even if those corporate farms come in and increase the crop yield by 20%? Of course not.

And give it up with the insulted southern boy routine. You know I was only pulling WE82′s chain, and the faux indignation doesn’t suit you.

No, limmo, Bob was the assailant. There is a HUGE and prosecutable difference between a JERK and an ASSAILANT.

If you look at the video, Bob the ASSAILANT assaulted the kid before the kid could even provide an answer. Of course, this completely ignores the fact that the kid had no legal obligation to identify himself.

I ALMOST NEVER stop walking when I am approached on a street. Bob would have been well advised to follow this simple rule.

Back in the days of yore (1980s) I confused the heck out of the South African authorities but ended up being “colored” under apartheid so, didn’t stay there longer than I had to.
So, no, never tried ‘Ilovo’ tried a lot of other things including mealies (sort of like grits only more colorful) served a bunch of different ways. Braal, Koeksusters, koeksusters en biltong and similar foods.

I will say this: I think the student should have introduced himself out of courtesy. “Sir, I’m Joe Smith, student at XYZ College. I’m working on a project. Do you support Obama’s agenda,” etc. The congress critter was wrong in what he did, but I think the student should take a little responsibility for his lack of common courtesy. I never walk up to somebody I dont know without introducing myself.

Nice to see someone else here with common sense.

Glad to see pubscout is evidently as inebriated as he was during previous posts.

If you are on the same side as the Washington Post, you can count on being wrong…

The congresscritter walked toward the young man. The congresscritter stopped and responded to the young man. The congresscritter assaulted the young man. Repeatedly.

The fact that the young man didn’t give his name, rank, serial number, home address, phone number, social security number, bank account number and account balances to the congresscritter does not enter into the discussion of propriety.

I am fairly sure Emily Post and Ann Landers did not consider it necessary to provide personal information to an assailant during the assault. Somebody can check me on that but I am willing to bet the etiquette crowd is on the young man’s side on this one.

So you have said, but you have been unable to show me where I did any such thing. Nor will you be able to, because it didn’t happen. You were challenged to do so before and you ran from the challenge. This one will be no different. But it’s apparent, WrongEagle, that you don’t want little things like facts to affect your thinking–what little there is of that. One of the things that makes these forums great is the ability to shoot down fools like WrongEagle. Hope you’re not sore….

Yep, it’s a good thing you didn’t make those posts.

Um, did you view the video at all? The legislator asked the kid to identify himself FIRST. He did not assault (and assault is stretching it) the kid until the kid refused to identify himself after repeatedly being asked to do so. True, he should have just walked away. But you’re twisting-and badly–what the video clearly shows.

On June 14th, 2010 at 10:56 am, pubscout said:

Not for nothing, folks, but the kids should have identified themselves, then pressed on with the question. If a kid with a camera accosted me on the street, and refused to identify himself, I’d walk away. If he pressed by sticking his camera in my face, I’d knock it out of his hands. I’ve got no love for the Obie-Dems, but IMHO, this kid approached this guy improperly.
