Gen. Petraeus is okay

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 15, 2010 10:44 AM

A scare this morning on Capitol Hill — Gen. David Petraeus passed out briefly while testifying at a Senate committee hearing. He reportedly had not had anything to drink or eat before taking the mic.

The Hill reports that he was able to walk out of the hearing room on his own accord.

WaPo: “Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the committee, said Petraeus ‘appears to be doing very well.’”

Video via Weekly Standard:

The committee is in recess.

10:52am. Petraeus has returned to the hearing room. He looks fine, thank goodness. Hearing will be postponed until tomorrow.

Petraeus IS the “Best and Brightest”, the type of American that helped make America the great country that it is and the best hope, today, of remaining the beacon of hope for all. Only the best wishes for General Petraeus.

I’m glad he’s okay. We still need him.

This was probably due to hypoglycemia or low blood sugar…but he still needs to have bloodwork, and a cardiac and neuro work up. Both are standard for passing out momentarily, especially in adults.

This seems to happen from time to time. Is testifying before Congress this stressful? I mean the man has faced combat! I find listening to these arrogant, self-centered, narcissistic morons on Capitol Hill annoying but I can’t imagine passing out.

And if Etheridge is hanging around I doubt he would try to “pull an Etheridge” on the General, who could frankly drop the jerk in a New York minute…

Aye to that. Stupidity multiplied by cowardice has to be hard on an honest man.

Prayers for the General! When you hold in all your emotions, that can manifest in various ways. He was probably working so hard not to tell all those morons to go to hell, that he got the vapors!! Anyone ever see the movie “Dead Zone” with Christopher Walkin? The psychic shook hands with the Presidential candidate and the evil vibes knocked him right to the ground. Patraeus might have some psychic ability.

This is a man who on his first tour in Iraq as CG of the 101st wore out a UH-60 Blackhawk and put 100s of hours on the backup bird. He was tireless and seemed to be where he was needed at the right times.
He survived being shot in the chest, on a range, saved by none other than former Senator, Dr. Bill Frist.
I’d bet that he came from CENTCOM directly and simply was too consumed by work to remember to eat or drink.

Yes, I’d follow him to hell and back twice if he asked.

Who were the jerk photographers snapping away?

Ironic that it was McCain speaking when the General fainted.

I did see McCain sit up when he noticed the General slump but it didn’t appear to me that he was about to get up. Of course, he probably realized there were others closer and more able to assist.

Hope he is okay and recovers from whatever hit him.

In the town I grew up in, we have Memorial Day ceremonies. The high school band is there, and they always tell the band members that they need to eat breakfast that day. There’s always some kid who thinks they don’t have time to grab something, or they’re tough enough to not need morning food.

Was it just me or did McCain look completely nonplussed? Like he didn’t comprehend what he was seeing, and was totally expressionless. A little disconcerting.

On my wedding day, one of my bridesmaids made me have OJ and peanut butter on bread so I wouldn’t do the face-flop at the altar.
