Pining for his own 9/11

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 15, 2010 09:52 AM

Doug Powers skewered Obama’s odious 9/11-BP oil spill analogy the other day — setting the Soros-bots at Media Matters into a fit over “right-wing media misrepresentation” of the remarks.

But it isn’t just “right-wing media” in America taking offense.

From the London Daily Mail:

British families of 9/11 victims described Barack Obama as ‘cruel’ yesterday for comparing the terrorist outrage to the BP oil spill.

The U.S. president said there were ‘echoes’ between the Gulf of Mexico disaster and the Al Qaeda suicide attacks which killed 2,995 people, including 67 Britons.

He said that just as the events of September 11, 2001, had profoundly shaped ‘our view of our vulnerabilities and our foreign policy’, so the oil disaster would shape thinking on the environment and energy for years to come.

Those who lost loved ones when terrorists flew hijacked planes into the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Centre said Mr Obama’s remarks were yet another attempt to slur the UK.

Joy Bennett, 66, a mother of two from Amersham in Buckinghamshire whose son Oli, a 29-year-old financial journalist, died, said: ‘It is an unfair parallel and is really a cruel thing to say.

John Podhoretz digs deeper and probes Obama’s 9/11 envy in the NYPost today:

So what on earth could the president have been thinking?

The first possibility is that there is some kind of perverse wish being expressed in these words. They have a wistful quality, as though the president wished he had a different crisis, a more popular crisis, on his hands.

… What the deployment of the 9/11 analogy suggests is that Obama would like to treat BP as though it were al Qaeda, at least rhetorically — a villain for him to confront on behalf of the wounded American people.

That may seem politically shrewd to Obama and his team, but it will have parlous consequences. The analogy muddies and obfuscates.

By comparing an unwanted disaster to a conscious act of war, Obama is adding an improper moral dimension to the effort to clean up the Gulf — a moral reckoning that will make it harder rather than easier to focus on the task of actually plugging the damn hole.

By likening the murder of 3,000 people and the efforts to take out the US government to a series of mistakes that added up to a catastrophe, Obama has defined evil down in a fashion that does immense violence to good sense, good taste and good leadership.

Flashback: Obama in crisis.

Andrew Malcolm at LATimes’ Top of the Ticket goes to town on Obama: Ouch.

Thank God he was not President in 2001. He would probably form an action committee to research how to respond (after the polls, of course).

Gore probably would have followed the Clinton example, a harshly worded UN resolution, a few key al Qaeda masterminds indicted in the district court in Manhattan, a few cruise missiles into empty al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan, and then business as usual until the next big terror attack.

But if Gore had gone the Bush route after September 11th, or after March 22nd or June 17th or whenever the following al Qaeda attack would have certainly happened, instead of a couple of months of the Dems and the media pretending to show solidarity with the Commander in Chief and the Troops, it would have been like FDRs World War 2 again, the Good War.

Sure, a few Code Pink fringo-whacks would have still been out protesting, but CBS and the New York Times would fawn over Gore’s alpha-male toughness in battling al Qaeda, and the enemy would have known Americans were committed to victory, and would have lost hope much sooner.

included an interview of Bill Ayers saying that he didn’t regret setting bombs, but rather he though that they

    hadn’t done enough?

What you choose to name your children says a lot about you. Bill Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn named their two children Zayd and Malik.

Zayd is an Arabic name meaning “one who progresses and makes other people progress.” The most famous person in Islam named Zayd is Zayd ibn Harithah, who was the orphan boy fostered by the Muslim Prophet Muhammad.

Malik is an Arabic word meaning “king”. Malik is one of the names of Allah, “King” in the absolute sense.

Ayers’ office door is decorated with pictures of
Mumia Abu-Jamal, Che Guevara and Malcolm X.

I think the evidence is fairly strong that Bill Ayers is a Muslim. Combined with his self-acknowledged revolutionary Communist terrorism, in my opinion he appears to also be a jihadist.

Does anyone else think that Obama’s mentor, Bill Ayers, was involved in the planning of the last 9/11?

I read the account a while ago. He walked past two occupied cottages, one only 50 yards from the accident site, to get back to the party where his lawyer buds were still partying. When they returned to the site 2 hours after the accident, Teddy sat on the bridge and rocked back and forth moaning about his flushed political career while his drunken buds tried to get to Mary Jo. These days we call it DUI Manslaughter, (not to mention leaving the scene of a fatal accident, failure to render assistance, failure to report a fatal accident, reckless endangerment…) Thanks to MADD DUI Murder carries mandatory prison time, restitution and suspension of driving privilidges for life. The irony to me has always been Teddy came to and held power only on his brother’s coat tails.

Jack swam four miles with two disabled sailors in tow and he had a broken back. Teddy couldn’t (or wouldn’t) save a girl he drowned in five feet of water. That he had a Senate seat for even 50 minutes, leave alone 50 years is obscene. His seat should have been a stainless steel head in a 6×9 cell.
