Pining for his own 9/11

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 15, 2010 09:52 AM

Doug Powers skewered Obama’s odious 9/11-BP oil spill analogy the other day — setting the Soros-bots at Media Matters into a fit over “right-wing media misrepresentation” of the remarks.

But it isn’t just “right-wing media” in America taking offense.

From the London Daily Mail:

British families of 9/11 victims described Barack Obama as ‘cruel’ yesterday for comparing the terrorist outrage to the BP oil spill.

The U.S. president said there were ‘echoes’ between the Gulf of Mexico disaster and the Al Qaeda suicide attacks which killed 2,995 people, including 67 Britons.

He said that just as the events of September 11, 2001, had profoundly shaped ‘our view of our vulnerabilities and our foreign policy’, so the oil disaster would shape thinking on the environment and energy for years to come.

Those who lost loved ones when terrorists flew hijacked planes into the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Centre said Mr Obama’s remarks were yet another attempt to slur the UK.

Joy Bennett, 66, a mother of two from Amersham in Buckinghamshire whose son Oli, a 29-year-old financial journalist, died, said: ‘It is an unfair parallel and is really a cruel thing to say.

John Podhoretz digs deeper and probes Obama’s 9/11 envy in the NYPost today:

So what on earth could the president have been thinking?

The first possibility is that there is some kind of perverse wish being expressed in these words. They have a wistful quality, as though the president wished he had a different crisis, a more popular crisis, on his hands.

… What the deployment of the 9/11 analogy suggests is that Obama would like to treat BP as though it were al Qaeda, at least rhetorically — a villain for him to confront on behalf of the wounded American people.

That may seem politically shrewd to Obama and his team, but it will have parlous consequences. The analogy muddies and obfuscates.

By comparing an unwanted disaster to a conscious act of war, Obama is adding an improper moral dimension to the effort to clean up the Gulf — a moral reckoning that will make it harder rather than easier to focus on the task of actually plugging the damn hole.

By likening the murder of 3,000 people and the efforts to take out the US government to a series of mistakes that added up to a catastrophe, Obama has defined evil down in a fashion that does immense violence to good sense, good taste and good leadership.

Flashback: Obama in crisis.

Andrew Malcolm at LATimes’ Top of the Ticket goes to town on Obama: Ouch.

It was a big indicator of a suspect’s level of intoxication, most often with alcohol, but occasionally with a combination of alcohol and drugs. (Basically, the small muscles of the face become anesthicized.)

I’ve noticed and mentioned to my wife several times over the past year, that Obama looked “high.” Now, a lot of people will blow this off with the excuse that “the President was just tired, because he is working so darn hard.” Yeah…at partying and his golf game!

I heard this excuse alot when some of my cases went to court…and the juries never bought it. (In one 3 month period, I had a 301 to 1 conviction rate.)

If the President IS using drugs, that would explain the necessity of a telepromter, and some of his narrow-sighted “executive” decisions.

Pining for his own 9/11? Yeah, that might give him an excuse to draw attention away from his own incompetence.

This is a broadside against the US economy. Word floating around Congress today is that Obama is going “nuclear” against BP by canceling all of their permits and contracts, essentially putting them out of business. Yet he expects a bankrupt company to pay all costs related to to the oil spill.

There is also growing fears that the drilling moratorium in US Gulf waters only will be extended indefinitely.

Obamas biggest problem is his ideology. Its unsupportable. Sure, he is intellectual and has thought it out thoroughly. That is why he is able to create a campagn based on those ideals and people buy into it and vote for him, support him, and follow him.

But when the rubber meets the road, those ideological policies fail. They do not work, have never worked, and never will work. Thats when the spin machine goes into high gear. Obama has invested years in creating a very good spin machine. With the help of the main stream media, he has a very effective propaganda machine. Writing his scripts in advance and putting it on the teleprompter to read works great as it keeps him focused and on topic.

When he doesn’t have the pre planning and has to think about all these things off the cuff, he is exposed. He then reverts to his Alynsky training which is to attack the opposition. He tries to turn the tables and accuse the accusers. He has been successful with this strategy and still enjoys some success due to the MSM support but it is beginning to wear thin on regular folks. Unfortunately, he still enjoys a 44% approval. That is incredible to me as he is such a buffoon and truly unqualified for President (of the US).

You can fool some of the people some of the time…

It’s obvious that he knows he’s so vastly out of his depth and can’t find a way out.

I heard a couple of them say things like: “Barack is going to pay my mortgage” and “Barack is going to put gas in my car”. Yes, they actually said it and truly believed it. Maybe because Obama told them he would.

And of course, many voted for him because of the color of his skin. In other words, based on his race.

Heres an idea, why doesn’t he tell the coastal folks that he will make BP pay for their gas for the next 5 years? Free gas to all those people affected. That will play upon the hate BP argument, and give away freebies that will garner him votes. Of course, he won’t be able to do it but he will be reelected by then so who cares.

Oh yeah, and blame the Tea Party. He needs his base after all.

Biltong is mighty good if you’ve water otherwise it’s like ‘monkey’. I like it best as a roast with herbs. Kudu is also good. Springbok is a bit too tough generally. I’m not too partial to buffalo though I’ve had it. Guinea hen cooked in clay laid under the coals is also mighty good as you say. I wish it were still Rhodesia, I’d go back in a heartbeat.
