Thanks to their international “human rights” advocates, Gitmo detainees receive art therapy, movie nights and video games at their U.S. taxpayer-funded camp in Cuba. Now, the left’s bleeding heart lobby wants to provide similar taxpayer-sponsored perks to illegal alien detainees on American soil. Welcome to the open-borders Club Fed.
According to an internal Department of Homeland Security e-mail obtained by the Houston Chronicle, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency plans a radical overhaul of the immigration detention system. No, the reforms will not increase the nation’s measly, chronically underfunded detention bed capacity — fewer than 35,000 beds last fiscal year to cover an estimated illegal alien population of between 12 million and 20 million. The Obama ICE leadership is headed in the exact opposite direction.
ICE chief John Morton — the same man who signaled last month that he may refuse to process illegal aliens sent to him by Arizona law enforcement officials — has already eliminated 50 detention facilities. This despite a DHS inspector general report released last spring exposing the federal government’s bipartisan failure to expand detention space capacity to end the dangerous game of illegal alien “catch and release.”
Instead, among the p.c. makeover measures under consideration or about to be made by Obama’s ICE agency in the next 30 days:
– “Softening” the physical appearance of privately contracted detention facilities with “hanging plants.”
- Giving illegal alien detainees e-mail access and free Internet-based phone service.
- Abandoning lockdowns, lights-out, visitor screening and detention uniform requirements.
- Serving fresh veggies and continental breakfast and providing Bingo sessions, arts and crafts classes, and, yes, movie nights.
Ensuring humane treatment of detainees is one thing. This, on the other hand, is beyond ridiculous. Detention centers should be clean, safe and temporary way stations for illegal immigrants on their way out the door. These proposals turn the immigration detention centers into permanent Dave & Buster’s-style comfort zones for illegal aliens biding their time until the next amnesty. Dancing lessons? Game halls? This is an invitation for abuse — and a recipe for exploitation by smugglers and drug cartels. Open-borders and civil liberties activists will end up endangering DHS/ICE workers — and the rest of us — under the guise of “immigrant human rights.”
The left-wing campaign by the American Civil Liberties Union, change.org and illegal alien activists targeting our detention system began in earnest after 9/11. Under the Bush administration, hundreds of illegal aliens of Arab descent were detained and questioned as “material witnesses” in counterterrorism probes. The use of immigration laws in the war against Islamic jihadists became a rallying point for the open-borders propagandists.
The New York Times hysterically reported that most of these post-9/11 detainees were held for months without charges. In fact, 60 percent of the 762 immigrants detained after the 9/11 attacks were charged within 72 hours. And the Justice Department inspector general found that there were legitimate reasons for delay in the remaining cases, including logistical disruptions in New York City after 9/11, such as electrical outages, office shutdowns and mail service cancellation that slowed delivery of charging documents. Immigrant abuse charges were hurled recklessly by the likes of Al Gore, who slandered DHS’s detention program during a paid appearance in Saudi Arabia — despite the DOJ’s failure to find any such patterns.
The truth got lost along the way. So did common sense. Allowing illegal alien terror suspects to roam free in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks would have been a dereliction of duty. And countless homeland security experts and DHS inspector general reports have repeatedly spotlighted lax enforcement in the detention safety net over the past decade.
Hundreds of thousands of “absconders” remain on the loose because of failure (or refusal) to detain them. The immigration lawyers’ racket has lobbied for compassionate “alternatives” to detention that routinely result in deportation fugitives simply ditching the process and disappearing.
Their goal is not to improve detention. Their goal is to sabotage it — all while law-breakers munch on croissants and joyfully shout “BINGO!”

I know two people who have lost family to illegal alien gang bangers/home invaders. As their beloved lies in the cold grave I am sure they will be comforted by the knowledge that our guest criminals have hanging plants in their home away from home.
But unlike some others here I feel George Bush will know the same Hell Fire as Bambi. The two people were both murdered during Open Border Bush’s term. The Open Border Whores talk of using the ICE resources to keep out criminals. When was that day Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador opened their police records to the State Department? Those countries are more than happy to export their crime problem.
No, I am afraid Misters Bush, McCain and Obama are not terribly upset with a few thousand dead of the unimportant persons in the flyover. The last figure I saw was about 12 Americans killed per day by illegal aliens; a small price to pay for lower green fees for Senator Lindsey Graham.

No.
Arizona won’t be getting troops.
Instead, they’ll be getting a lawsuit.
Sheriff Joe needs to be in charge of this, a tent city down on the Arizona border would do just fine.

No, if there was abuse, it would be “illegal” immigrant abuse.
Let me get this straight. Illegals bear hot desert conditions, trusting to the “honesty” of smugglers, “coyotes,” and drug cartels, gambling on entering our country, even though in doing so, they risk their lives to do it…but locking them up in a secure location, with food, shelter, and protection (the basic necessities of life) is somehow inhumane?
Those people who are promoting complimentary perks for the law-breakers, need to be identified, their reasons exposed, and then booted out of their jobs. Whatever happened to the notion of aiding and abetting…does it stop once the perpetrators are incarcerated. Jails, and prisons are there not only to keep the public safe, but to extend some sort of punishment for crimes committed. Coddling is not punishment.
I’ve come to the conclusion that not only are unions ruining America, but so is the Democrat Party, the militant social progressive movement which resides out on the fringes, the mis-labeled “liberal” university professors, and joining them soon, the faithful Islamic zealots.
We need to get back to basics…the Constitution, and common sense.
I’d offer an extension or furthering of your logic: ‘immigrants’, by definition, don’t end up in these circumstances — ever. These are clearly illegal aliens OR initial legal entrants (granting the most generous assumption possible) that may have later transgressed the law and now are faced with removal. Either way, these aren’t ‘immigrants’. For anyone to blur that distinction (and I’m not assuming you are) is the apex of insults to all the immigrants that came here the right way and for all the right reasons.
The fact that non-nationals are faced with legal trouble, by definition, excludes them from being an ‘immigrant’ in the technical sense of what constitutes an immigrant.
Footnote: does anybody care what Al Gore says anyway?… Didn’t think so (sigh). Speaking of which, hey Al, I’m having so much ‘global warming’ here where I live I haven’t seen an 80F day this summer yet AND we’ve set some historic records about lowest high temps on record lately. What gives?

I agree. We cannot even get along within our own families!! My moonbat brother is avoided whenever possible because it is so unpleasant to talk to him. He is bitter and rabid…hates anything religious or conservative with such a passion, I truly can’t talk to him. It is impossible to understand how we could have come from the same family. Would I want him living in another country? Oh yes! The libs can have all the property along the southern border, from the border line, in 10 miles. They will need to sneak across the border line to get into Conservative states. And Conservatives will have built a fence that actually works!! Also, we will be armed.

Cut Bambi’s executive budget by 40% and listen to him sing “I am a lonely boy, lonely and blue“. Cap all Czars pay at $10,000 a year and force them to earn their dinner the old fashion way-steal.
If we’re serious about controlling illegal immigration across our southern border, we don’t need to coddle the people we catch sneaking across it.
Tent cities that can be seen with the unaided eye from Mexico, housing chain-gangs of the apprehended — who are building field fortifications that’d make Caesar’s siege works surrounding Alesia look like a playground exercise — would go very far indeed in discouraging any more from treating our sovereignty like a joke.

My new son-in-law just left the Army after 12 yrs. service. He is a highly trained Green Beret, and was very active in TWOT. Can you guess why this man, who loved his job, and who had planned to be a career soldier left military service?

Those missing Afghan “students”…7 are still missing. My question is…what were the ones who were caught doing when they were caught? I am very curious. Were they planning something? Were their computers confiscated? Or, more likely, did we just tell them not to do it again and put them back into the “class”? I haven’t heard much about this and we are talking about potential terrorists who have credentials that could get them into government restricted places!! Is NO ONE taking this stuff seriously?? Another major attack is imminent. Wait for it. And the attack will be done by someone who should have been caught and detained except for the ineptness of this administration. There will be an attack by the end of this summer, I would bet on it.
We have seen what this hapless government is good for. Nothing. They have no ability or will to protect us from anything. Have you noticed all the natural disasters lately that have gone completely unnoticed and unacknowledged by both the government and the media? Major flooding, tornadoes, billions of dollars in damage. All being ignored. Our citizens are being left to fend for themselves and THEY WILL!
Let’s hope that the other missing students had the idea to disappear into the U.S. to live permanently. I can’t blame them if that was their plan. Coming from a backward, war-torn country and seeing the U.S., would be quite a temptation to me. I would have 2nd thoughts about going back. It isn’t right and I hope they get caught. We need better screening and closer chaperoning. Of course, that’s asking too much from this government.

#57 Our grandson is in Afghanistan after 3x Iraq. He intends this to be his career. If things don’t improve, this country won’t be worth coming home to. I had 3 brothers in WWII (one on eternal patrol) We owe all who lost their lives in the service of this country to fix this mess and impeach Obama ASAP.

There is a huge and growing number of folks with the same PO level McCloud – the pendulum is definitely swinging back right, but the sad thing is no one in the GOP knows it or has any strategy or plan other than whining and pointing fingers. Who’s our conservative trump card for ’12?? Please don’t say Palin. While her politics and charisma is impressive, she is polarizing, even among conservatives, and she may not even be able to get a majority of conservatives – leave alone muster a plurality of the 40% of independents essential to winning.
I think this is what we often lose sight of here. We are conservative and will always vote accordingly, but we are only +/- 20% of the electorate. The leftwingers are another 20% – so elections are decided by the 40% in the middle, who also happen to be, for the most part politically illiterate, or just don’t care.
The person who can take out Dear Leader needs to be charismatic, visionary, strong, focussed and honest. Makes one thinks of Reagan, no? Aside from resurrectiing him, we need to look forward. No one one the radar at this point works for me. Anyone have a suggestion? ANYONE??
One possibility I could get excited about is Patreaus. Outstanding leadership and proven problem solving skills in a difficult, dynamic and changing situation. IMHO he would bring a level of respect, humility and integrity desperately needed in Washingtoon. And DECISIVE LEADERSHIP.
Perhaps the thing I like best about him is the very reason he will not be a candidate. He finds politics disgusting and abhorant and has zero interest in being president – which ironically would make him an outstanding president.

Though it may surprise people, there is probably one ally for impeachment in the House: Pelosi. She is ambitious and power-hungry. With Obama out and Biden as President, she would be next in line. Of course, we all know that Biden is the Professor Irwin Corey of politics; he wouldn’t last long, so Pelosi would move right in, in no time. Just a thought.
Unless Barry Soetoro is impeached, I have little hope that most of what Barry has implemented will be reversed.We already have had the same experience with Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Carter gave away the Panama Canal if you recall and Clinton decreed that NAFTA passed even though the Senate never voted for it.
