Shocker: Tom Brokaw Admits He’s a Democrat

Whenever most reporters in the mainstream media claim to be unbiased and fair and balanced “journalists,” I laugh harder than I do when I’m watching Tom Brokaw read a sentence in which every word begins with the letter L. But every now and then one whips the mask off — either on purpose or by a slip of the tongue.
In 2008, Tom Brokaw gave himself up completely and totally, bathing in the warm, healing waters of Hope & Change. Brokaw referred to Obama’s inauguration as a “velvet revolution” and made an equated The One to Jesus Christ and Sarah Palin to Pontius Pilate, but every now and then it’s refreshing to hear a longtime “journalist” admit which party has his allegiance instead of making us read between such subtle lines.
Here’s Tom Brokaw talking with Matt Lauer, and at one point Brokaw refers to a western governor as “a Democrat — from our party”:

Update: Letter from a reader: I think people are taking the Tom Brokaw comment to Matt Lauer wrong…. it does not appear that he is saying that he is part of our party, meaning the Dems, rather I really think he was quoting a Western governor who said that he was losing Independents from his party and Tom put it in the Governor’s words.
Could be, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard Tom use first-person narrative when quoting a Republican.

I’m shocked, SHOCKED, to learn Tom Brokaw is a democrat!
Errah the Greatest Generation’s Windbag. I’d like nothing better than to put a pillow over ole Tom while he’s napping. “Shhhhhh, now Tom . . . . Just walk towards Uncle Walter and the light . . . . just go quietly . . . . yessss that’s a good boy! . . . .
A democrat from ‘our’ party tells me it’s more than just the democrat party. He’s referring to the ‘progressive’ party cloaked in the democrat shield.
No shocker here. Now comes the time when many so-called jouralists feel quite open about their politcal affiliations after carrying the Dems water for decades and are the faithful lackeys of TEH WON. They must feel that the Dems perpetual hold on power is in within their grasp.

One has an astute grasp of the obvious in saying Brokaw is a Democrat. Without regard to topic, I always look at what Doug has to say. You have to take time to see if there is a humorous quip. I’ve got priorities, but I’m not missing out on those.
Check out pages 116-17 of Brokaw’s book “Boom! Voices of the Sixties.” Nixon wanted Brokaw to be his press secretary, but he turned it down by stammering that he liked his job at NBC News and his “family of FDR and Harry Truman Democrats would never understand.” He called this job offer “one of the best-kept secrets of my life in the Sixties.” Straight from the horse/donkey’s mouth — he comes from a long line of staunch Democrats.

This isn’t the first time that Tom Brokaw has used the words “we” and “Our” when referring to the Democrat Party. A few days after the 2000 presidential election, the WSJ quoted Mr. Brokaw as saying: “If Gore takes this state, then we win”. Brokaw wrote an angry letter to the editor of the WSJ that was completely unconvincing. There was no question that Mr. Brokaw, tired after about 12 hours of broadcasting, slipped and let out his true feelings. When he said “we win”, it was not a rhetorical slipup. It was a Freudian slip in which his true liberalism just came gushing out in living color.

This reminds me, I recently saw (on PBS of all places) a young smirky reporter asking a British expert about gold – with the vocal inflections and facial contortions common to her ilk that indicated she thought buying gold was for rubes – but the expert gave a thorough explanation. I remarked to someone how knowledgeable she (the expert) was compared to the dopey talking heads on US TV.
