What’s on your grill?

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 4, 2010 04:14 PM

Hope you are all having a wonderful Independence Day.

So: What’s cooking on your grill this weekend? I made Filipino-style BBQ chicken and pork (secret ingredient: Sprite!) and corn on the cob with hoisin sauce (if you don’t have siracha sauce, use red pepper flakes). Share your favorite recipes and enjoy the rest of the holiday.

The grill is classic old school today at the family compound in Powerbunkport: Hamburgers, foot long hot dogs, beer brats (bite of brat, swig of beer) and chicken marinated in Italian dressing.

After the sun goes down and it’s not 92 degrees anymore, it’s smores with marshmallows melted over the fire pit for dessert. (plymouthacclaim has similar plans)

That Filipino chicken & pork looks awesome though!

I don’t have to cook today! Yea… going to friends for burgers and lots more stuff. I’ve been ordered to not even contribute beer/wine/or munchy plate. Works for me.

Wishing all of you a wonderful and safe Independence Day with family and friends. Happy Birthday America!

My neighbor is a manager at Publix, and has been super busy this summer so I just mowed his lawn for him a couple times. He just found out I was the culprit gardener and brought us some Porterhouse steaks about two feet thick yesterday. Just wow. Random acts of kindness pay off! Bon apetite all!

Steven Raichlen is great. I’ve got Primal Grill set as a permanent record on the ol’ DVR.

With the wife in Utah for a niece’s baptism, I did myself up a nice NY strip steak with baked potato, corn-on-the-cob and Pepperidge Farm 3 layer chocolate cake for dessert.

Our neighborhood annual July 4th bash was a huge hit! We have been doing this for over 30 years and the same neighbors are all still here! We had over 50 people because the kids all come back and now they bring their kids…so, 3 generations from this small neighborhood! We all bring stuff. I bring deviled eggs. We eat lunch, play games, have horseshoe tournament, etc. then dinner of turkey cooked on the Weber and leftovers from lunch. This has gone on so long, we are like one big family. I love it, and it shows the true spirit of July 4th…people from all backgrounds coming together in a neighborhood and assimilating!!

    A bird.
A little tiny robin, 1 day old, is ON my grill. No kidding. His/her/its sibling is UNDER the grill.

Mom & Pop Bobbin nested on a light fixture just above the grill on back deck, hatched two weeks ago (2 of 4 survived) and the little red breasted robbers, errr robins, stole the day by choosing the 4th of July to try out their wings, which don’t work very well just yet.

We chose not to rustle any feathers on such a day of liberty and decided to wait til the Wright Bros (our nickname for the fowl pair) took wing, so we cooked our BBQ on a neighbors grill.

While the cat was fascinated by the NatGeo moment, it didn’t last. They were gone by sundown, as we had threatened them to do just that ’cause they were beginning to look like Cornish Game Hens…well , at least to the cat.

Happy Independence Day to all, even those in their maiden days of flight school.
