Looking for beta testers
Do you use an Android-based cell phone? We are looking for some beta testers to give our michellemalkin.com Android app a spin.
UPDATE: Thanks for the overwhelming response. The beta signup is now closed. If you missed it, don’t worry – you will not have to wait too long before we release the app to the general public on the Android Marketplace.
Thanks!

I’m down.
I’m using a Blackberry Storm… guess I’m out.
i use a droid… i’m in..
Testing. 1st post from motor Droid using app.
I can’t help you there, MM. I’m using a barebones Motorola phone – it doesn’t even take pictures for cryin’ out loud!
Having to type user name & password every coment is going to be a pain.
Test from droid…
My bad. You can save user name & password in preferences.
What kahall said. I don’t comment that much but it would be nice to stay logged in.
Ah ha. It does remember. Thanks Kahall!
*Now if you ever need a burger taster, I’m there!
As for phones, I’m about 2 iterations back of the pack.
I’m a beta tester for another organization and that log in crap is a pain…I’m using an iphone so I guess I’m out as well….the other org needs to get a whole lot of bugs fixed from the log in stuff to action items not showing up. This forum would lend itself much better than trying to do emails/faxes, etc…
MM we need an iphone app sooner or later…lol
Glad you guys found the Preferences. It just defaults the user and password from the preferences into the form so you can easily override if needed.
I would like to have a “share” option where I could email, txt, or Facebook post the link to the story I am viewing. This would help us spread the posts via your preferred medium
You need to become homeless and live in the shelter that Mrs. Bitterman visited. Those “poor” people were snapping photos of the first lady with their cellphones.
I would live to, though i have a iPhone, well should in 5-30 days according AT&T.
I also think an option maybe to auto update and select how often it updates, like 30 mins, hour, 2 hours, etc.
I still have a Beta somewhere, and a fair amount of tapes. Then I got a VHS, and now I’m using a DVD.
Anyone know a relatively quick way to transfer 1000+ video tapes to DVD????
If you find out let me know
For all things Beta, shouldn’t you have asked Allahpundit?????
Surprisingly, I only use my phone to “talk” on. I know, I know, it’s an ancient form of communication, but it works fine for me.
+1
I missed it?! Shoot.
I love my Droid phone. Can’t wait for the app.
Thanks,
Looking forward to grabbing it when it’s available, Michelle! I’ll park it on my home screen right next to Drudge Easy.
um, dang. I have a droid and I would like to try it out. I’m a little slow on the draw. I think I need glasses.
The droid is the story the media has missed. All the talk about the iphone and the droid does everything the iphone does. Apple set itself up again just like it did in the 90′s.
Iphone v. Android is going to be Apple vs. Mac redux. . . and apple has nobody to blame but themselves. If Apple had allowed Verizon to offer the iphones, there wouldn’t have been a market for the droid.
All you hear is iphone, ipad, ihype. Droid will have every device with the same functionality for less with Verizon. Sell Apple, buy VZ. (because VZ benefits when they start to sell iphones too).
“apple vs. Mac” should be “PC vs. Mac”. And apple will lose AGAIN.
I told you I needed glasses. I totally can’t see.
OK, but OT….
Obama has tasked NASA with improving relations with muslims.
Truly.
I don’t like to brag but I was the first to suggest an MM smart phone app. Just check MM’s twitter and you will see my suggestion from many months ago. Admittedly, I suggested an MM iphone app for selfish reasons (I have an iphone so that is the phone I suggested for an app. BTW, android HTC incredible is loads of fun!). I don’t need to crow but it was my suggestion first!
How about a Windows mobile app, because I refuse to use Google or Apple products due to privacy issues?
Captain Kirk meets the 7th Century. Talk about boldly going where no man has gone before.
I read the article. The head of NASA is an idiot.
I think Rube Goldberg drew the instructions…
Are you kidding? This is great!
Tell them that the moon needs sharia law, that only women live there, and that they will be closer to the 72 virgins when they do their jihadi deeds.
Make sure they don’t get space suits before entering the air lock.
Buh-bye.
Oy – 1000+ tapes, JHS?
Unfortunately, as far as I know, you’ll have to play the tapes in real time to record them to DVD. So even if your tapes are 2 hrs each, it’s at least several thousand hours of work you’re lookin’ at.
The best answer I can come up with is to pick out only the tapes that are irreplaceable for transfer to DVD, such as home videos and old TV items you may have recorded.
For commercially produced tapes that can be found on DVD, get the DVD versions. Transferring the tapes to DVD means you’ll lose quality anyway so you might as well go with the better DVD version.
But if you want to transfer VHS to a format that doesn’t lose quality (and videotape quality isn’t all that good to start with) a better solution would be to use your PC to convert them to a digital format.
Once you have them in digital format, you can transfer them to pretty much whatever newest video technology formats that’s thrown at consumers. (Including “burning” to DVD or BluRay discs.)
I’d recommend looking around at the AfterDawn.com site, it should answer most of your questions.
On Michelle’s android app thingee – sounds cool, but my cellphone is only used for one odd purpose; making and receiving phone calls!
COOL! Even though I missed the beta test sign-up, I can’t wait for MM to be on Android. I have the HTC Hero Android. Always checking this site when I’m working on-site and at the business inventory storage. Drudge has Ipad going. Good to see MM on the mobile bandwagon. Tear ‘em up Michelle! Gonna be a lot of big news stories before the November elections.
Sorry, I can’t help you Michelle, beta testing a Community Organizer is full-time work.
Are you sure these are the droids you’re looking for?
Take a vacation to Beijing. Buy all new DVDs for about $89.95. Kidding.
Truly. The space between his ears is a black hole…

Actually, the biggest problem I’ve had is that all of the DVD recorders I have been able to find tell me that 99% of everything I’ve recorded over the last 25 years is all “copy protected”. That is amusing only in that stuff that I personally recorded on my camcorder without copy protecting in any way suddenly copy protected itself!!
I solved that problem with a Grex digital image stabilizer.
Now I just have to wade through the mountain of tapes
Yeah, odd things like that pop up and leave ya scratching your head. I appreciate the better images new technology delivers, but hate having to do the transfers when some new tech comes down the road. Even now the “DVD or Blu-Ray?” question is an ongoing one, like Beta v. VHS back in the day.
But as I sez, you might wanna try converting them to digital format. If nothing else, you won’t have to do any future video conversion in real time. And they’re easier to edit in digital format, to boot.
Don’t throw away the tapes… as the DVDs will leave you with reduced quality (DVD conversion uses “lossy” codecs).
Better yet… invest in an extra tape player.
What’s a Droid?
Cool. Looking forward to being able to use the App. I can already browse and bost from a Droid. But it’s not optimized for a mobile device. An app would be great.
err… browse and “post”
I forgot to mention that, TAC, and it’s excellent advice since you never know when the trusty ol’ VCR is going to give up the ghost. And you can’t buy them new anymore, but I found a nice used one at a good price on EBay when I needed it.
Thinking on the whole android-phones apps type area – as much as I like to read Michelle’s and other folks stuff, needing 24/7 updates wherever I go isn’t something I’m into. I’m the same with with people’s “tweets” – I’m glad they fed the dog before they went to see “Avatar IV, The CGI Continued” or whatever, but that’s not must-have info that I need to have ringing, flashing and shaking some tightly clutched portable device while I’m trying to enjoy a nice quiet summer’s day.
I have a huge pile of VCR’s too – the problem is that magnetic tapes deteriorate over the years and I want to save it all while I still have the chance.
On a positive note I can now edit the recordings and remove commercials!!
All except a few commercials that they won’t show anymore
(Such as the Mia Hamm shoe commercial where’s she being chased by “Jason” through the woods and she outruns him!!)
My phone did what the iPhone and the Droid do before the Droid or iPhone came out: e-mail, Internet, and WiFi.
Indeed. Why picking the newest phone on the market when there are a zillion others available that also have marketplaces? Hopefully, you’re just starting with the Droid.
Secondly, personally, I will NOT enrich THE MOST left-leaning tech company (Google) I’ve ever heard of when there are great viable alternatives out there.
I have a VCR graveyard myself, should have my elec wiz bro scavenge any “guts” that might be of interest.
It’s not so much that the tape deteriorates, JHS, as bits of it “fall off” each time it’s played – but I suspect you know that if you’re a long time VCR user. In theory a tape should last a very long time if properly stored and rarely played.
Editing out commercials is nice but can take quite a bit of babysitting time. On VHS that I’ve transferred to DVD, I just let the tape roll and let it be whilst I go about my bizness, take a nap or whatever.
I have no idea who Mia Hamm is (know “Jason” of Fri-13th) but I vaguely recall seeing that commercial. I imagine I have more than a few commercials from the early 80s on tape.
Wish I had a VTR in the 60s and 70s to save both shows and commercials. But VTRs were out of the financial reach of most folks in those days. Fortunately many of those old shows & adverts can be seen on YouTube or can be had on DVD. Some great memories.
Y’know, thinking on it – there were hi-speed tape to tape duplication devices, but I don’t think there is/was such a device for tape to DVD.
