Selective ‘N-Word’ Outrage: William Morris Agency Dumps Mel Gibson
**Written by guest-blogger Doug Powers
Let me get this straight — the William Morris Agency has reportedly dropped Mel Gibson as a client because he used the “N-word” in an unhinged privately recorded rant, but William Morris continues to represent the likes of P. Diddy, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, 50 Cent, and many more, who broadcast the same awful word to millions — daily, unabashedly and continually?
Gotta love Hollywood.
Take up a career in Hip-Hop, Mel — the WMA will bring you back on board in a heartbeat.

You’d think the William Morris Agency has been around long enough to be a little more niggardly with their kneejerk reactions.
Come on. There’s a clear difference in how it’s used in hip hop versus how Gibson used it in the recording.
Now, whether it should be used in hip hop is a worthy debate, and I think we’d agree that it shouldn’t. But you can’t equate hip hop’s use of it with Gibson’s.
Obowmao: “Just words.”
Well you know … Mel did portray a Patriot after all … that probably excuses him from having any real opinions or say in the matter … after all … anyone who could portray one of those evil old white guys … but then again … didn’t Adam Baldwin play a bad guy there? Isn’t he a Conservative?
Oh never mind. Liberal “logic” is just far too advanced for a simple guy like me.
Doug, the only person on that list I have heard of is mel. I guess the fact I listen to c&w and old rock & roll is why. It seems mel really doesn’t like anybody but himself, he bad mouths other groups of people also.
L
There’s an obvious contextual difference in the situations where the word was used, but if, say, Snoop Dogg was recorded saying that word in a privately recorded rant instead of on a CD, would the WMA drop him as a client? I’m doubting it.
I’m not defending Gibson either, mind you — dude’s obviously got some serious issues — but the double standard as far as the “n-word” stuff goes is fairly laughable.
Do you think the fact that he beat his soon to be ex-wife had something to do with it?
Only in Hollyweird can an actor make a living in shoot-em-up movies, then support gun control.
Or fly around in a private jet talking about global warming.
Or make a million bucks per movie, but then want lil’ ole me to pay more in taxes to help homeless people.
Or be so narcissistic to think that if THEY visit a disaster area, lil’ ole me will suddenly pay more attention to it.
I’m not excusing Mel Gibson. I think he needs prayer. His life has really gone downhill the last few years.
‘Breathes there the man with soul so dead, who never to himself hath said. . .’ (in a PRIVATE conversation, mind) something not totally ‘good form’? Should PRIVATE speech, especially speech that is uttered in anger, be used as a foundation for condemnation? We all had better be careful of what we think and say in private if that’s the case. Clearly, ‘privacy’ no longer has meaning in the world of camera cell phones and audio taping.
Would it have been better for Gibson to have said “raped by a pack of underprivileged inner-city minority youths of colour”? Is the problem with the racial pejorative, or is the problem with the idea that ravening underprivileged inner-city minority youths of colour often travel in predatory packs? Should he have said, “raped by a cohort of community organizers”?
Eminem was accused of domestic violence a few years ago and was later cleared of the charges. The agency didn’t terminate their relationship before the investigation was complete. If that’s why the WMA won’t represent Gibson anymore (and the investigation isn’t even complete), they didn’t give Mel the same “innocent until proven guilty” benefit of the doubt they gave to Eminem.
Why am I talking about hip-hop anyway? Somebody put on some Zeppelin and lets change the subject!
A trip to my local 7-11 will get you all the n-word usage you need.
Didn’t say if he was or was not innocent of wife beating. Or ex-wife beating. Just that given the entire package, it isn’t JUST the “n” word that got him kicked off WMA.
Nor was this his first incident.
Its Hollywood. Getting kicked out of your agency pads your resume…..
Who cares about the words he used. He’s a scumbag and danger to women. (mentally and physically)
infallible #2 Hip hop’s use of the word is far worse and offensive as it is pumped thru the airwaves to so many millions and creates an acceptance among people like you who think its ok if black people say it.
Mel had another melt down with a cop not too long ago and said that his words were out of character. I think his words have become a trend. He’s now another loser Hollywood type who is over payed for having the ability to memorize someone else’s words while pretending to be someone else. The company who dropped him represents dirtbags, so why not keep Mel. He fits right in.
Does anyone really doubt that blacks – especially celebs – use the word in private conversations all the time?
“There’s no such thing as bad publicity.”
– Well-known Hollyweird axiom
If Mickey O’rouke can make a come back, I’m not too worried about poor old Mr. Gibson.
I am curious as to why there’d be any expectation that a Hollywood talent agency would to anything consistently or fairly.
While I don’t condone what Mel Gibson said, the real double stand is how Danny Glover can get away with all the garbage he says. Nobody ever makes a big deal out of that.
So, the gf baits him, records him and sells the recording… Now that’s class. The ONLY thing I care about actors is, do they make good movies?
With Gibson’s net worth somewhere north of $250 million, he writes, produces, directs and acts in whatever he wants anyhow. Me thinks Mel will be OK.
Wm Morris dropped him because he doesn’t make them any money – he operates independently. They just needed a pseudo PC excuse.
In a ‘Private”…..rant?
This is an interesting subject, not the actions of the perpetrators, but the reactions of their handlers.

Gibson=non-politically correct Hollywood actor.
Sheen= Liberal, politically correct Hollywood actor.
??
Remember this is the United States of the double standard.
The N word is only racist if spoken by someone who is not black.
As demonstrated by the DOJ’s refusal to prosecute the black panthers for voter intimidation, if you are white then there can be no discrimination.
Only whites can discriminate.

Indeed. Recent, internal Justice Department testimony backs up your point.
In addition to Obama/Holder’s Justice Department demonstrating unequal justice in favor of the New and Improved Black Panther Party over white grandmas, scared away from their right to vote by Black thugs in Philly…
Now we have same Justice Department not only threatening to move into a recently decided Oakland-white cop/black victim case…but they acknowledge that they have been “actively monitoring” this case since its git-go.
Obama Justice is proving itself to be a group of racially-motivated Apparatchik-hacks.
And Obama told us he would be a uniter and not a divider…mmm, mmm, mmm.
The Hollywood elite have been out to get Gibson ever since he dared finance, produce, direct and distribute “The Passion of Christ”. Worse yet, the movie was a smashing success. Meanwhile, Hollywood continues to release one anti-American dud after another. Gibson strayed from the socialist, anti-American, anti-faith, gender-bending perverted orthodoxy.
It is worth noting that all of Gibson’s controversial crises were privately recorded. I don’t know why he doesn’t just leave Malibu. He sure doesn’t need the Hollywood crowd. He’s been a one-man industry.
I wonder what William Morris’ policy is on people who say “cracker” and “kill white babies”.
What IS the difference between how Hip Hoppers use the word N etc., and how Mel Gibson used the word?
There is NO difference, save that Hip Hoppers are more violent, arrogant, racist, and nasty in their use of it.
Okay, I just realized and stated one clear difference.
There is no debate over whether Hip Hoppers can use it. Of course, they use it all the time and they get a pass on their use of it. However they shouldn’t use it at all. The n etc word is offensive, rude, and an insult no matter who uses it.
Hollywood and the entertainment industry, including Hip Hoppers-Rappers, Democrat Congresspersons, Media personalities, they all get to use it with no repercussions, and they should’t get away with it.
The most racist groups in the USA today are blacks and Hispanics and Arab Muslims.
The least racist groups, yet most targeted for reverse discrimination, prejudice, racist attacks, etc,. are Caucasians and Asians-Orientals.
Also, of political leangings the most racist groups are Democrats, leftists, fifth columnists, whereas the least racist groups, although most often falsely accused, are Tea Party activists, Conservatives, Christians, and Republicans.
Gibson is the one who opened his big, fat, foul mouth, and what comes out, the foulest of stenches, the most offensive, grotesque emanations.
Like Bill Maher, Keith Olberman, Jane Madow, Barack Hussein Obama, and so many others, I don’t like Gibson and he made his bed, dug his “grave” and he can just sleep in it.
The guy is no good, a disgrace, and it would be nice if he, and the others I mentioned above, would just shut up and go away. Our lives are much richer without them!
*Two bottom lines here:
**We must all fight political correctness wherever we find it or we are doomed!
**Mel Gibson has a substance abuse problem, which is the root cause for most all of his problems!
Yeah but Nick Marshall knows what women want!
Hmmm, so Mel Gibson is accused of beating up women, throwing the N-word around, & is constantly getting arrested.
I take it Mel is trying to break into the hip-hop music scene?
personally I don’t like mel, and i like rap less than than that and the black racist a$$holes that preform(loosely used word in this case)it even less,,,just an opinion, no special reason other than to voice my dislike both entities.
As far as his lovely wife, i find it interesting how he goes into a rant and just happens to be being recorded. She set him up, must mean money in the end for her. He’s probably too niggardly with the his money for her. Can I say that, I doubt Holder and Urkle knows the meaning of the words. Rogue, you best be careful talking like that ya knows their watching all the hostile media in the country. We could be accused of being Tea Partiers.
he’s on his way, does he have to serve time in the big house 1st?
There are over 250,000 words in the English language.
Ginger is one of those words. It’s made up of 6 letters. If I rearrange the first 3 letters, suddenly al sharlaton appears in front of my house and I will lose my job. What a crock of PC crap.
Luckily for Mel he can say what he wants because he has enough money and doesn’t have to kowtow to the PC morons.
I am sick and tired of everyone saying “the N word” instead of just using the darn word.
Why is it the only word in the English language that can’t be said??????
Braveheart is one of my all-time favorites. But that doesnt excuse him from being lumped in with the rest of the trash.Definitely, the rest of them should be thrown on the garbage dump with Mel.The sane crowd know it won’t happen,so let’s not buy their stuff and move on to November(what really matters!)
Affirmative action racism
Yes! I think it’s very likely Gibson’s firing had something to do with his admitting he hit hit his girlfriend as she held their small child! I’m also not sure how this is being chalked up to a single cause when the article posted here clearly states that the incredibly powerful Ari Emanuel, who insisted Gibson be dropped, has been anti-Gibson since 2006, when he declared that “Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world” (per the article Powers himself posted here — and perhaps didn’t read — after Gibson’s rant against Jews, Emanuel wrote: “People in the entertainment community…need to demonstrate that they understand how much is at stake in this by professionally shunning Mel Gibson and refusing to work with him.”) I’d wager — and I’m just guessing here — that calling one of his staff members a “wetback” was also factor in Gibson’s firing.
But it’s not surprising to know this site is defending Gibson against the (overwhelming majority of people) who oppose anti-Semite racists who beat their childrens’ mothers in front of said children. Michellemalkin.com: Defending those the rest of us find indefensible.
They dropped Mel for one reason only…they think the guy’s brand is plutonium and they don’t want to be associated with it so long as it’s being played out in the media as a scandal.
Hollywood couldn’t give a crap about the personal morality of any of its stars as long as it thinks it can still make money off of them. Somebody’s still representing Roman Polanski AND every douche who signed that idiotic petition supporting him. Robin Wright, the ex-wife of Sean Penn, unleashed a bunch of “n-words” in a police report filed after she was carjacked once and yet, nobody dropped her (if she’s not in as many movies anymore, it’s age not anything she’s done). Nobody dropped Alec Baldwin after he was caught on tape swearing at and calling his daughter a pig.
Mel Gibson’s dark side has been known a long time. I’ve heard stuff about him since the early 1990s. While he was making his handlers a bundle back then, they didn’t care. Now that his last couple of movies failed and the media is hyping his phone calls to this woman, they think his name is mud and it’s time to bail out.
Gibson: FREEDOM!!!

Fair is fair.
I’m not upset here.
Gibson committed career suicide. It seems people were willing to overlook the drunken diatribes against a Jewish cop, to forgive and forget, and move on.
But I heard the supposed audio. I think he was sober.
He needs to get into a real church, not his own personal pseudo-Catholic “Church of the Holy Family” (named before he abandoned his wife and children, obviously), and he needs to get into therapy.
I suspect Gibson isn’t a bad guy, but he’s got some serious issues, and I don’t blame an agency that doesn’t want to be associated with him.
It is also a matter of profits. Foul mouthed rappers sell, Mel is finished.
If he has enough money left after his divorce and now this, he can self produce, as he has done before, but I’m not sure if distributors will want to distribute his films.
Maybe if he fixes his personal life, he’ll get a third chance.
But I don’t blame his former agency.
In the Obamao regime only white people act “stupidly”.
Exactly when will Obama, Holder, et al, address ANY of the problems within the so called “black community”? I know……..
I understand there is going to be an addendum to the “tanning bed tax” that just came into law. Any light-skinned African AMericans that use tanning beds will be exempt from the tax. After all, they are entitled to their darker skin pigment.
I have a bigger problem with the content of his rant then the use of the n-word.
True. I think black people’s use of the word is deplorable, but sadly has become an accepted part of their culture. Clearly Gibson’s use of the word was hateful, and revealed a deep racism, similar to his rant against Jews a couple of years back revealing his antisemitism. Id boot him too. He sounds like a complete loser.

I also don’t understand the “we can say it about ourselves but no one else can” double standard. I don’t like it when Eve Ensler and her ilk encourge women to use the c-word so glibly.
My main concern about Mr. Gibson, however, is that, whatever his issues with drinking, people don’t say things they “don’t mean” when they are drunk; they say things they would not say out loud and do things they would not do if they were thinking clearly (i.e., his anti-Jewish rant to the Jewish cop who had just busted him).
once again…
where?
No. This is a common error. While it is true people are more likely to say things they really feel when they are drunk, it is also true they are likely to say things they feel but also know are not true.
It is perfectly possible to feel anger (or any other feeling) toward someone you know does not deserve your anger. The right thing to do under those circumstances is to work on yourself to remove that feeling.
Alcohol can short circuit that internal, self-civilizing process.
BTW, that’s not the situation with Gibson. He really is an a******. He says the same kind of garbage when he’s sober, just with a bit more circumspection.

I’m sure you’re right; heavy drinking “short-circuits” our ability to censor ourselves/control ourselves when we know we’re about to say or do something inappropriate in a moment of heavy emotion.
As to your statement re: Mr. Gibson, I’m afraid that’s true as well. He has lost whatever respect I had for him as a person, and I don’t know if I could even watch “The Passion Of The Christ” now without thinking about it. That’s the problem when celebs are such hot messes in reality that it’s impossible to overlook it.
His agency understands that, and that’s why they will not represent him at this time. Period.
I’m sick to death of focusing on blacks and hispanics. You would think there are none other living here in the USofA.
While I detest that word, I welcome any of you liberal doubters to join me in my front yard during the school year. As the kids parade by every afternoon, the two most common words uttered are the F-word and the N-word. Oh, these children are black and Hispanic.
The fact that his less than a year ‘wife’ said she was beaten, doesn’t mean it happened. It wouldn’t be the first time a wife played that card for cash, and certainly not the last.
Mel should have seen this coming…. he should have just spent some time doing a little research on Russian women and scams.
If Mel wasn’t conservative and made films that reflected that, this wouldn’t be front page news. Roman Polansky raped a 14 year old for heavens sake, and is considered a ‘cultural icon’ by Hollywood and most of Europe!!
She’s a gold digger. He’s dumb for playing right into her hands before the marriage and now as she plays the role of abused wife. He should shut up and let his lawyer take care of her. it’s like the case of Paul McCartney….. most women saw that one coming as well.
laugrat:
If he was “playing into her hands” (i.e., she was trying to provoke him into saying outrageous, potentially incriminating things on tape), then he can face the consequences of allowing himself to be provoked into losing control to that extent. I don’t understand actors like Mr. Gibson and D.C. Douglas (the FORMER Geico commercial voice actor who was fired by them after leaving an insulting message on a FreedomWorks office answering machine, which they, not being idiots, proceeded to post on their Web site) don’t understand that their words in their private life have consequences for their careers if they are recorded for anyone to hear.
I hope MG gets his personal s**t together and gets truly right with the Lord (which I don’t think he is at this point), but until then, his agency is right to dump him and people are right to boycott his work. He is currently poison.
