John Kerry Gets a Long Face When Reporters Confront Him About Taxes on the SS Rhode Island
**Written by Doug Powers
Several reporters caught up to John Kerry and asked him about keeping his newest yacht in Rhode Island instead of Massachusetts — a move that just by happenstance allows Thurston and Lovey to avoid a $500,000 Bay State luxury tax.
Kerry’s claim is that the boat is in Rhode Island for repair work. Everybody who’s ever been to Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod and the general Boston area knows there’s a tremendous shortage of businesses that perform boat repair:
For the record, Kerry shouldn’t just fess up and pay the extra Massachusetts tax. Kerry should admit that the exorbitantly high taxation he helps promote chases people away to other states — states bright enough to realize that lower taxes collected from more taxpayers, including wealthy out-of-staters like John Kerry who are running from the results of their own policies — is a boon to private businesses not to mention the government coffers.
If Massachusetts luxury taxes were, say, half of what they are, not only would the state have a quarter-million or so in luxury tax money, but an in-state company would be performing the alleged repair work on Kerry’s boat and paying taxes on that income to Massachusetts instead of Rhode Island.
John Kerry is swift-boating his own state.

Good post, Doug.
Just be sure you don’t wrongly label Lurch a hypocrite.
Hopefully this is just the start of a very long string of exposes on our endless supply of dirty politicians and their antics.
Typical of Lurch. I wonder if he will re-think his public funding for the media now that he has been exposed for being the hypocrite we all knew he was.
“Can I get outta here?”
Where’s he going? To get a Philly Cheese Steak sammich?
Sure it’s in for ‘repairs’ – then why is the home port on the transom in Rhode Island??????
By the way, did you know Kerry served in Vietnam – he has the hat!
It’s like Obama saying he was going to the Gulf Coast for vacation (pre-vacation), after he took so much heat for vacationing (Pre-pre-vacationing)in Maine, only to find out it is a one day stop over in Florida (probably to help his buddy Crist) then on to the real vacation in Martha’s Vineyard – but not to worry, Bo will have a direct flight on his own plane. I wish I had a job where I got three vacations in as many weeks – but then he has to deal with the stress of massive crop failures in the WH kitchen garden.
Louis XIV and his court!
Lurch was for taxes before he was against them. He threw his medals over the wall, so what’s wrong with avoiding taxes. He would make Charlie Rangel proud.
If Barry Soetoro gets a yacht, will he get one for the first dog, too?
Kerry needs to join the “shared sacrifice” and pay up. No evasion, no loop holes and no deception. No wonder everyone is saying that the rich should pay more. Kerry isn’t paying all he would if he didn’t manipulate the system. All the tax cheat dirt bag political elites can start cleaning up their collective acts and be subject to the same laws that we have to obey. Bho needs to tell Kerry that he’s made enough money. And what about the carbon footprint for these extravagant toys? And they think we’re the stupid ones. Well, guess again. Fire them all!
4 Vacations in 1 Month – this says it better than I ever could:

FYI, it ie easy to verify Kerry’s story – look at the registration number on the bow, it should begin with MA if it is registered in Massachusetts.
These elites can dish it out but have such a difficult time dealing with receiving any flack. Is Kerry planning any town hall meetings? They might be fun to watch.

The marxist slogan, “Taxes for thee–but not for me!”.

Don’t worry, John–the poor taxpayers in Taxxachusetts will just keep re-electing you since you always “hep out the poor people”.
***
It felt good to leave Mass. after a year there in 1969–1970. Texas doesn’t screw over the people like Mass. does.

With that one response, John Kerry may have just sunk any chance of being re-elected.
That response is so utterly Clinton-esque, and voters are absolutely sick of dishonest, parsing politicians.
Massachusetts will end up having two Republican Senators.
John Kerry, getting “Swiftboated” (*) again.
(*) Meaning “Outing” the Fraudulent –
Exposing the lies, deceit and fraud of self-glorifying public officials
No, John Kerry is torpedoing his own state.
Therefore, Kerry owed the tax as soon as was first birthed at the Nantucket Boat Basin. And he has been evading the tax since that time.
1) “Run Away!!! Run Away!!!”
or
2) “Can I just eat my waffle?”
I’m amused that Kerry even attempted to explain the financial and tax strategies behind a water craft that he didn’t buy with his own money, isn’t registered in his name and that he doesn’t even really own.
Recalling the majority of his answers during the 2004 Presidential Campaign, perhaps Long John Kerry should direct all inquiries to the real owner of the “Isabella,” but unfortunately, Senator John Heinz has been unavailable for comment for over 19 years now.
IN wonder if he got carbon credits from Algore for that Tahoe/Suburban he rides around in.
We all know that senators and congressmen are exempt from the “taxes on the rich”. It’s an aristocrasy there, without the “earls”, “dukes” and “sir” titles. But there, all the same. As long as people show more interest in movie stars and “American Idol” rather than what mischief their politicians are up to, they will remain in office.
I believe the Dems now have enough players for the long version of the song, “Here a tax cheat, there a tax cheat, every where a tax cheat!”
“It’s not an issue. Period.”
Sorry Jon but the people, not you, will decide if it is an issue, and apparently they think it is. Glad to see the reporters going after him like this and from the looks of it they weren’t too pleased with his attitude. Maybe someday they may even start asking questions about things of national importance, like what really is in ObamaCare and what will it do to health care in this country?
You are missing the worst part of this story. He had his multi-million dollar yacht built overseas. So much for buy American.
But why should we be surprised. Kerry has been anti-American for decades.
He hid behind his wife when asked about his vehicles, like that big SUV he fled the scene in just now. Maybe he’ll claim that his wife actually owns the boat, too.
Only a democrat would buy a $7 million fixer-upper.
Isn’t it amazing how people are willing to defend the conspicuous consumption and/or tax avoidance of Kerry and Obama as necessary and appropriate, yet promote the whole class warfare agenda?
Doug, you didn’t mention that Kerry served in Vietnam. Just saying swiftboating is not enough. You run the risk of having your blogging license taken away.
He could always just claim he was for the tax, before he was against it.
But JF Kerry has felt your pain as an American. Don’t ever think that because he has a 7 million dollar yacht he hasn’t been in your shoes, trying to find work, having trouble making the mortgage. /sarc off and I threw up a little as I typed this.
Agree.
Amazing, but certainly not surprising.
Rather, it is expected.
It’s at the same time sad, outrageous, and amusing to see insults, tu quoque, and projection-on-steroids employed as tactics in the defense of socialist/fascist/elitist/etc. America-haters by similarly thinking cheerleaders/wannabes.
It’s not just Kerry either. I read somewhere where Michele Obama and Sasha are taking a vacation to Spain without O. They’re taking up 30 rooms at a 5-Star Hotel. Then, of course, after that, it’s to Cape Cod.
To Joe the Plumber – Obama wants you to see what “redistribution of wealth” really looks like. You, the sucker taxpayer, pay taxes and the Obama’s take vacataions and party on your dime.
Talk about conspicuous consumption.
Sigh…again so sad to see your obsession with me.
I’ve no doubt that If someone went into your basement they would find some weird candlelit altar, covered in printouts of my most memorable posts, where you uhhh…relax with yourself… before retiring to bed every night.
Heh. We all have shrines in your honor Chap, mine’s in the toidy!
Dude. It sounds like you’re obsessed with his obsession. The sexual allusion is really disturbing. You might consider some counseling for yourself.
Oh, but don’t you remember?
Taxes are for “little people”.
Chap (channeling Buffalo Bob): It puts the lotion on it’s skin or it gets the hose again!”
For years I have thought that Kerry is a disgrace to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and its predecessor political entities. For that matter, he’s kind of a disgrace to the United States as well, even though he went to Vietnam. He gets no better with time and further antics.
Just think how I feel.
Seriously, granite has dropped any pretense of offering up anything here but obsession with me and speculations as to what and when I will post. 3 of the last four posts he’s commented on (this one, the Tex/Mex border post and the New York Times post), his first thought is not “I wonder what I think about this topic.” It’s “I wonder what Chappy’s doing right now.” You can check it out yourself.
Kerry threw Lovey under the yacht.
That reminds me of this old one:
Why didn’t Natalie Woods take a shower on the boat?
She preferred to wash up on the beach!
As someone who grew up along the MA/NH border, I can assure you that Mass residents avoiding sales taxes is big business in NH and ME where the border is cluttered with liquor stores.
At one time during the “Massachusetts Miracle”, Gov. Mike Dukakis stationed state police across the border in the parking lots of NH liquor stores to observe and assess MA residents for MA sales tax for the liquor they just bought. NH responded by arresting the MA state police for violating the interstate commerce provisions of the US Constitution and prevailed in court.
So good luck with MA in trying to collect those taxes from Kerry. As Judge Learned Hand famously said:
Something Kerry and his socialists should keep in mind as they continue to complicate our lives with their ponderous, economy-stiflng tax schemes.
This particular tax is a state tax though, correct?
And Natalie Wood’s sister Lana risked her life when she was thrown into a pool.
Plenty O’Toole: Hi, I’m Plenty.
James Bond: But of course you are.
Plenty O’Toole: Plenty O’Toole.
James Bond: Named after your father perhaps?
[Plenty O'Toole is thrown out of the window by some goons perhaps from the 10th floor, and lands in the middle of the hotel's swimming pool]
James Bond: [looking down] Exceptionally fine shot.
Slumber Inc. Attendant: I didn’t know there was a pool down there.
Kerry is not a MA native, so why should he feel any obligation to pay anymore in taxes to that state than he has to. I remember when he arrived in MA and thought that the MA voters were foolish to elect him. Then they kept electing him. Do they still want to elect him now? Time will tell.
Between the millions spent on the Clinton wedding, Obama’s birthday soirée and Kerry’s yacht, how can Democrats even pretend to identify with the average American – especially during these trying economic times – and why are Republicans letting them get away with it?
Rogue, that individual further proves my point with each of his posts…which are starting to get downright creepy.
Kerry would have been fragged in Vetnam, but his troops didn’t think he was worth the greande.
I never understood why Kerry and Hanoi Jane never hooked up. They have so much in common.
Oh,well, at least the boat isn’t named “Monkey Business.”
Because the two of them together would have been worth a grenade.
Oh gag. Can’t Kerry and his Mozambiquan poseur stay off my screen?
Stop bothering John Kerry with such mundane questions about taxes. He has no time for you “little people”. Go away!
Doesn’t some or all of the tax money Kerry is denying Mass actually go towards offsetting that state’s massive health insurance costs in helping the medical needs of poor and seriously ill children?
I mean, where’s the kiddie quilt parade the media normally trot’s out to browbeat Republicans into submission?
***
Don’t worry–the Feds will “redistribute” the long faced patrician John Kerry’s wealth when the 2011 tax year comes. He can hide from Mass.–but he can’t hide from IRS.
***
Unless he and his rich wife vote with their yacht and move to the Caymen Islands. I don’t have this option (or a yacht) at my house.

I do not think that’s accurate. The taxes impact your INCOME not your wealth. That is the dirty secret bout these taxes.
Heh. Hopefully we can get them to go on a “3-hour tour”.
No matter what taxes they pass, they’ll include an exemption for themselves.
People like Heinz and Kerry don’t care what your opinion of them is. They have their money (and I’m talking real money) stashed off shore and they are guarded by a cadre of tax lawyers and accountants first, to avoid scrutiny, and second, to make sure you never know how much they have and where it is. They believe in wealth distribution for everybody else. This is what you get when you keep electing incumbents.
this ruling class socialist weasel is going to be tossed out next cycle, his time is up.
scum never learn, scum has to be washed down the drain.
Let the crocodile tears fall!

When my 401k loses 20% of its value, 20% of my wealth goes too. Now, where did that money go? Some was interest but some was my actual cash income. It was all invested in business.
When those business are taxed on their profits, there is less money to go to me as a shareholder. My value declines. The tax money taken (which was my money) is redistributed by the government to wherever they see fit.
I am positive they redistribute it to maximize votes which keeps them in power to do more of the same. Therefore wealth can be redistributed as well as income. Talk about a dirty little secret.
Kerry promises to pay taxes he doesn’t owe?? He will be doing that tomorrow? I doubt it. Why on earth would he do that? Will he pay other non owed taxes on other tax shelters he used?
Slick politicians like himself know how to get the heat off by making promises they never intend to keep hoping the heat will go away. He will worry about his non follow through later with a litany of reasons and excuses after the story has died down. He can play that game forever. Did you know he was in Vietnam?
Sure.
By the way, I ALWAYS look for generic ketchup, chili sauce, etc., any product that Heinz has. Actually, my supermarket’s generic chili sauce is better tasting than Heinz.
I confess I cannot give up my Heinz ketchup. Forgive my RINO faults…..
Nice SUV. Hope it’s green.
He and Lovey have their money so locked up that in 2004, they reported that their effective tax rate was about 12-13%. Remember the grief Ross Perot got for that?
While I admire those that can pay as few taxes as possible, and recommend it to everyone, it just smells (reeks?) of hypocrisy when it is done by the person working hard to increase those taxes.
Kerry reluctantly agrees to pay up . Note that the yacht had been seen docked in Mass, which means that he was in fact liable for the taxes, contrary to the opinion of the board’s resident self-anointed legal expert.
Um, idiot, I was simply going by the exact same story everyone else was, including Doug. In fact the whole premise of the post and subsequent comments (including any you made) relied on everyone having the exact same assumption about where or where not the boat was docked.
In otherwords, you have proven yet again what a tool you are.
“I’m John Kerry, and I’m reporting for duty free!”
As an aside, if Lincoln Chaffee wins the governor’s race, he’ll probably raise the harbor fees so poor MA doesn’t miss out on their tax revenue. Because that’s what “fiscal conservatives” do.
As he slinks off into the haze, casting insults in all directions…….
Since I didn’t remember posting anything especially provocative, I took a look back and found one post on this thread:
which obviously has nothing to do with you, anything you posted, or even, for that matter, Kerry, directly – so, as usual, you’re full of –it. However, I did find these rather…. unusual thoughts:
I’ve always been of a mind that paranoia and narcissism are opposite sides of the same coin. You seem to demonstrate it.
Not all directions, txvet. They are squarely at you. Perhaps you should try harder not to earn them.
Who said it had to be provocative? Point is you read the same post and same comments and were obviously under the same impression based on the same limited information we all had.
So for you to single me out as making some sort of legal conclusion to this effect, which I didn’t in any case, is asinine. But asinine is par for the course for you.
It’s not paranoia if it’s true. Feel free to check out those posts I linked to and see how obsessed granite has become with me of late. Don’t think I am happy about it. I always found granite to be slimy, but now he’s devolved into creepy as well. I am hoping a public display would shame him into, at the very least, keeping it bottled up inside.
