The revolt against Obamacare: Missouri opts out

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 4, 2010 09:04 AM

The other day, it was Virginia and Colorado moving forward with their efforts to protect their citizens against Obamacare coercion.

Last night, Missouri voters voted with their feet, via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

Missouri voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly rejected a federal mandate to purchase health insurance, rebuking President Barack Obama’s administration and giving Republicans their first political victory in a national campaign to overturn the controversial health care law passed by Congress in March.

“The citizens of the Show-Me State don’t want Washington involved in their health care decisions,” said Sen. Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, one of the sponsors of the legislation that put Proposition C on the August ballot. She credited a grass-roots campaign involving Tea Party and patriot groups with building support for the anti-Washington proposition.

With most of the vote counted, Proposition C was winning by a ratio of nearly 3 to 1. The measure, which seeks to exempt Missouri from the insurance mandate in the new health care law, includes a provision that would change how insurance companies that go out of business in Missouri liquidate their assets.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Cunningham said at a campaign gathering at a private home in Town and Country. “Citizens wanted their voices to be heard.”

Ed Morrissey reads the tea leaves:

Bear in mind that over 315,000 Democrats turned out to cast ballots in the primary that nominated Robin Carnahan, while over 577,000 Republicans hit the polls. That is about a 65/35 split — which means that a significant amount of Democrats either supported the ballot measure repudiating ObamaCare, or didn’t bother to cast a vote to defend the program. Actually, Prop C got more votes than the combined voting in both Senate primaries — which tells us something even more about the passion in the electorate.

Democrats may have to hit the panic button after seeing the results from this swing state. ObamaCare set fire to the electorate last year, and that may be an inferno for Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in November.

Gateway Pundit Jim Hoft (welcome back!) has a round-up of the Prop C victory.

May it be the first of many.

ObamaCare is a cynical effort to push the already over-socialized American system far deeper to total State control. It’s wonderful to see so many Americans willing to defend their health care rights. But, we’ve got a lot of work to do as ALL Americans should be protesting socialist assaults on our rights.

Look for the spin that since the wording of Proposition C meant a “Yes” vote was a vote against ObamCare it was too confusing and the results are meaningless. Delusional Dems will try to argue all the “No” and and at least 50% of the “Yes” votes were actually in favor of ObamaCare. Maybe even a Justice Department lawsuit to throw out the results since the wording of the proposition was obviously racist.

I received an e-mail from the Jim Demint’s Senate Conservative Campaign this morning warning us that Assistant Democrat Deluxe John McCain is on his way today to campaign against conservative GOP candidate Ken Buck in CO today. I’m sure this will warm the cockles of Michelle’s heart.

I also noticed another game being played recently and that is for reporters to be pressing McCain on his born-again conservative rhetoric. Yesterday he was pressed real hard about his involvement with the talk of “reconsidering” the 14th amendment. He got testy, refused to respond other than to lamely offer that he supports reconsidering the amendment, not revoking it.

McCain’s rebirth as a conservative has an expiration date. Is it August 24 or November 2?

You are utterly clueless as to who you are dealing with.

The “Democrat” in “Assistant Democrats” that you refer to no longer exist. They are extinct. What has replaced them is totally different from the Democrats we knew even ten years ago.

The Democrats we knew for years wanted to defeat you. The ones who replaced them want you destroyed, silenced, and subjugated. The Democrats you knew wanted the Constitution changed. These Democrats want it obliterated.

To compare any Republican today to those who oppose us in the Democrat Party is ludicrous. The opposition is lead by Marxists, Socialists, and Progressives that happen to fly the Democrat flag as a form of camouflage.

That’s the threat. If you fail to recognize it, you do so at your own peril.

I wonder if this gesture by Missouri will be a case of “too little, too late.”

Virginia has the best shot at defeating Donkey-Care in the courts because it passed its no-individual-mandate law before Donkey-Care became federal law. I’m afraid that passing a conflicting state law after the federal law will run head-on into a federal supremacy/pre-emption roadblock.

The American revolution shares a lot with what is going on today. Pluto rules over hidden things; secrets, lies, corruption. It shatters the structures that imprison growth. Causes uncontrolled eruptions. Capricorn is the sign of realism, hard work and character with a focus on real value, real supply and demand, real assets.

Rush just pointed out a couple of things about this. One, that the bill got over 70% yes in a state that McCain won by only one point, and two, that the total vote on Prop C was greater than the combined candidate votes in the primaries, which means that people are really charged up about this. Huge is the word. “Massive realignment” is looking like the phrase of the day in November.

We have voted for the presidential winner every time since the 20s except 2 times, Adlei Stephenson was a neighbor state hometown boy, and we had enough sense to vote for McCain over this bozo despite massive voter fraud by thug thizzle from E St Louis. If you want to know where the center of the country is geographically and politically, look at Missouri. Right now, the country is swinging massively away from socialism/redistributive government model. As a lifelong Missourian I can tell you it will be a LONG time before people trust democrats to run the country. They have morphed into the communist party of America, and have shown their true colors. Bye, Bye.

The Post-Dispatch article doesn’t exactly emphasize the nature of the “federal mandate” it discusses, does it? I wonder how much the mainstream public is aware of sometimes. CNN “broke” the story of the individual mandate months after I knew about it. I think maybe they “broke” it in March or February 2010, right after an important Congressional vote. (I was in a public space where it happened to be on, saw the “breaking news” notation on the screen, was stunned because I knew about it in November ’09…)
