Milwaukee Teachers Union Fight for Viagra Coverage Met With Soft Support
**Written by Doug Powers
Many public school districts have sent notes home with the kids begging them to donate pencils, notebooks and even toilet paper because the budget is so decimated. Congress is about to approve a $26 billion emergency funding package, purportedly so teachers jobs aren’t lost — that in addition to the original stimulus money that was supposed to do the exact same thing.
Given that, this isn’t the kind of public relations that will get the public to support dumping even more money into the bottomless union pit:
With the district in a financial crisis and hundreds of its members facing layoffs, the Milwaukee teachers union is taking a peculiar stand: fighting to get its taxpayer-funded Viagra back.
The union has asked a judge to order the school board to again include Pfizer Inc.’s erectile dysfunction drug and similar pills in its health insurance plans.
The filing is the latest in a two-year legal campaign in which the union has argued, so far unsuccessfully, that the board’s policy of excluding erectile dysfunction drugs discriminates against male employees. The union says Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and others are necessary treatment for “an exclusively gender-related condition.”
[...]
At least one lawmaker questioned why the union is fighting for Viagra while teachers are losing their jobs. A consultant for the school board has estimated that reinstating the drug benefit would cost $786,000 per year — the cost to keep perhaps a dozen first-year teachers employed.
Just because math is hard doesn’t mean the teacher has to be.
Somehow the district got along without Viagra coverage until 2002, but now of course the teachers union is claiming this is a “health issue” because “erectile dysfunction has been linked to heart disease and prostate cancer.”
Does the teachers union know what else causes health problems? Being taxpayers who are already being soaked for every penny and watching their kids and grandkids being charged for the remainder due to irresponsible, undisciplined spending including drugs that allow Mr. Wilson in Social Studies to serve as his own kickstand.
They seem to forget that we’re talking about Viagra for school teachers. Sure, it’s probably not work-related in most cases, but I would be concerned if my babysitter demanded that part of her compensation package included KY Jelly, so I hope the teachers union can understand the parental uneasiness that their fight for Viagra for teachers might cause — not that they care.

Aren’t the taxpayers getting screwed by the Teacher’s Unions enough already?
Does this mean union minions are just a bunch of limp d!@#’s?
Teachers Unions…hard on the job for you.
Considering all the recent news stories detailing teacher/student relationships, you’d think saltpeter would be more in order.
Clearly these teachers condone nanny state philosophies. This is a case of “I want everything as long as I don’t have to pay for it. Too bad the focus isn’t on educating students. What poor roll models teachers have become by over demanding perks and allowing unions to bully tax payers into submission. School children are being held hostage by a bunch union thugs and whimpy educators. With teachers being allowed to care more about their pensions than educating, no wonder so many students are under performing. Good teachers need to separate from the rest of this group before all respect is lost for the profession.
So male unionized school teachers in Milwaukee can’t maintain an erection?
Now there’s a recruting poster.
Milwaukee school teachers can’t make a point.
Brings a whole new and many layers to the meaning of being a blue state hey?
Are the women that ugly in Milwaukee?
Milwaukee. Where if you want to get it up you have to go to Minnesota.
“that ugly in Milwaukee”
Isn’t that Laverne and Shirley land?
I’m thinking Glee is moving its location shots to somewhere in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee. Where that lump in their pants really is an eraser.
The Chevy Volt. In Milwaukee its the only way to get charged up.
No wait, wrong thread.
To quote Robin Williams:
Sounds like a good time to be renegotiating their pensions.
Milwaukee. Where teachers teach without a point.
You would think that there would be somebody in that silly union membership with a quarter brain who would realize that you might want to pick your battles. Are they so used to having a Progressive lap-dog press that they didn’t think this would be a story. Sometimes the stupidity of these people is simply unbelievable.
There’s a reason it’s known as the beer capital.
This makes me stiff with anger.I find it hard to get behind something like this.Where is all the school tax money that every property owner and business pays annually?
Just reinforces the image of male schoolteachers as wimpy, Don Knotts types – sort of like liberal lawyers.
Then wouldn’t it be cheaper to issue them all free “beer glasses”?
When the Obama money dries up and the recession continues the union will regret their decision. Christmas is ending.
So starting teachers make 65,500 a year? Nice!
Funny headline Doug!
“So starting teachers”
When they start though they probable can get a boner. Its after they’ve been teachers for awhile that their hard ons go soft.
Uh, you don’t understand the organization here in Wisconsin. They are soooooo incredibly arrogant they don’t care. They know definitively they can do whatever they want because no politician has the guts to do anything about anything they do.
Some years ago, the media reported on what a party-like atmosphere it was on the first day of school. Schools were competing with each other on that first day….pizza parties, other give-aways, one principal bragged about hiring limos to pick up students to bring them to school that first day.
The reason? Every school’s state money was apportioned depending on the schools attendance on that first day.
It didn’t matter about any other day of the year, and Milwaukee’s graduation rate reflects that, but on that first day, all the stops were pulled to get butts in the seats.
You know the first student abused by a teacher using these drugs will put an end to it anyway. But, I understand that in some states you can still get the pill in prison… Makes you think…
there ya go, the main reason our country is in such trouble, our so-called political leaders DO NOT CARE about the individual until election rolls around.
What next? Taxpayer funded Harley-Davidsons?
Not EnglishQueen, but, I don’t know about the rest.
Maybe not, but they sure have a lot of balls!

Off topic, but not so much: Democrats just can’t help being dishonest. It’s who they are.
Oh, wow, man, I said

What do you think the teacher’s gonna look like this year?
F**k man!
Uh!

I heard about your lessons
but lessons are so cold
I didn’t know about this school
Little girl from Cherry Lawn
How can you be so bold?
How did you know that golden rule?
I think of all the education that I’ve missed
But then my homework was never quite like this!
Whoa! Got it bad,
Got it bad,

I’ve got it bad, so bad
I’m hot for teacher!

(What are you doin’ this weekend?) I don’t feel tardy
Class dismissed!
Ooh-yeah!

Got it bad,
Got it bad,
I’m hot for teacher!
Whoa!
Oh! Ooh, yes I’m hot
Wow!
Whoa!
Oh! Ooh, yes I’m hot
Wow!
Oh my God!
Woo!
So I guess that ain’t a bowl of blue M&Ms in the faculty lounge?
Doug, you are the King of Sarcasm. No one can sum up a story like you – reading, writing and ‘rections.
Whenever I need a good laugh, I either go here to read one of your humourous posts or I got and visit ace.
Sorry, but can’t discriminate against men if women are getting special benefits.
Perhaps we should look at how many students (most are not taxpayers) are getting screwed by the teachers. If this goes through, I expect the union to demand free condoms dispensed to teachers to “help prevent student pregnancy”. What a bunch of sick morons…
By the way, ED drugs are apperantly one of the most popular recreational drugs, among men. Most do not have ED problems at all.

I suppose they do think we’re that stupid; they are teachers after all.
So, teacher, explain to me how getting a stiffie will cure your heart disease?
