Russell Simmons’ Def History Lesson Jam: Christians Bombed the WTC in 1993?

By Doug Powers  •  August 19, 2010 03:16 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

Russell Simmons was on with Larry King last night arguing on behalf of the Ground Zero mosque. During the chat, Simmons said the following: “If you’re blaming Muslims for the 9/11, you need to change your mind — did we blame Christians for the first World Trade attack [in 1993]?”

The logic is sound — I’m satisfied.

It’s nice to know that Simmons is so forgiving of the Christians that bombed the World Trade Center in ’93. I had no idea that Ramzi Yousef was a Christian, either. Proof-positive that if you watch CNN long enough, you’ll learn something.

Larry King of course didn’t bother to follow up on what Simmons said, possibly because Larry’s as clueless as Russell:

Here’s a movie clip appropriate to the occasion:

The guy not wearing pants or the guy wearing pants? No the guy wearing bling wearing a baseball cap, especially if it is worn askew to the side or backwards. NOT!

I agree that he’s totally misinformed, but this interpretation of his speech says more about how you see/hear the world than about his actual speech patterns.

No offense, but I highly doubt you know what’s going on with ANY music in America. My guess is the last time you were paying attention to new music, Carter was in office (and I’m being generous). I’m not sure by WHAT definition Rihanna, Usher, The Black Eyed Peas or Drake (just to pick some of the biggest black artists right now, based on chart position) would be considered “angry.”

Oh – and btw – the most overtly violent and incredibly successful rap group (and with the most dedicated following of almost anyone in music across genres) in existence right now is Insane Clown Posse, an (all white, since we’re apparently designating music as “black” or “white”) rap outfit who sing about things like decapitating people, and whose logo is a guy carrying an axe, with song titles like “Imma Kill You.” (Trust me – Kanye West, who raps and tweets mostly about high art and couture fashion, comes off like Little Lord Fauntleroy next to these guys.) Their DIEHARD fan base call themselves Juggalos and have been involved in so many murderous crimes that they’ve been labeled a gang in Utah, Arizona and parts of Pennsylvania. You may have heard of them recently, because their 2010 “Gathering” – an annual live musical festival that includes the group and similar horrorcore outfits – including a stabbing and an attack on reality TV tart Tila Tequila. Here’s video of a Nightline piece about the group and the violent crimes committed by fans that includes an interview with its members.
