The White House War on Jobs

Loathsome cowboys
How’s that Summer of Recovery working out for you? Continuing my series on the White House War on the West, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s attack on the economy, and the White House land lock-up (Part 1, Part 2) and ocean grab, here is the latest on Barack Obama’s deliberate job destruction policies.
According to the WSJ, the administration forged ahead with its junk science deepwater drilling ban despite knowing it would cost 23,000 jobs.
Senior Obama administration officials concluded the federal moratorium on deepwater oil drilling would cost roughly 23,000 jobs, but went ahead with the ban because they didn’t trust the industry’s safety equipment and the government’s own inspection process, according to previously undisclosed documents.
Marcia McNutt, an Obama administration science adviser, commented on the corporate culture of BP in a memo sent to Michael Bromwich, the administration’s new top offshore oil exploration regulator, on June 28.
Critics of the moratorium, including Gulf Coast political figures and oil-industry leaders, have said it is crippling the region’s economy, and some have called on the administration to make public its economic analysis. A federal judge who in June threw out an earlier six-month moratorium faulted the administration for playing down the economic effects…
Sound familiar?
Just last month, you’ll recall, the TARP inspector general reported on how the capricious Dealeragate mandates of Obama’s non-expert auto experts deliberately destroyed jobs in the name of “shared sacrifice” to appease Big Labor.
Then there are more and more Obamacare job-killing stories piling up like this one:
Assurant Health is eliminating 130 jobs at its offices in Milwaukee and Plymouth, Minn., by Oct. 1 as the health insurer prepares for changes under federal health care reform.
The company, which sells health insurance for individuals and small employers as well as short-term policies, faces an onslaught of new federal health care reform regulations, including the requirement that it spend 80% of premiums on medical care.
…The new regulations under federal health care reform are expected to remake the industry, particularly for insurance sold to individuals and families and to small employers, such as those with 100 or fewer workers.
State insurance commissioners are still working on the proposed rules for the percentage of premiums that must be spent on medical care. The requirement is expected to lower profit margins and to force some companies out of the market.
And then there’s the impending expiration of the Bush tax cuts. The Chamber of Commerce minces no words. Via The Hill:
U.S. Chamber of Commerce economist Martin Regalia on Monday said the tax increases advocated by President Obama would essentially kill any chance for an economic rebound.
“That’s what you’re suggesting, is a corporate bullet in the head,” Regalia said. “That is going to be a bullet in the head for an awful lot of people that are going to be laid off and an awful lot of people who are hoping to get their jobs back.”
Regalia made the comment at an American Petroleum Institute event on the tax increases proposed by the Obama administration. Much of the discussion focused on tax cuts enacted by President George W. Bush that are slated to expire at the end of the year.
Obama has suggested continuing the breaks that benefit the middle class and most small businesses while allowing tax cuts for wealthier entities to expire. Regalia said that plan will fail to boost economic demand.
“The thing [the administration] sees the least about the economy are the synergies,” he said. “Many of these small businesses sell into big business. … Saying ‘I’m going to stimulate the small part of the economy and not the big part of the economy’ is a fool’s error. It’s almost impossible to do.”
All this comes on top of last week’s news “showing jobless claims rose more than forecast and manufacturing in the Philadelphia region unexpectedly shrank.”
One shudders to think how many more jobs will be on the chopping block after the president finishes “recharging his batteries” on Martha’s Vineyard.

You forgot “unexpectedly”. Although, for those of us who are able to see the sun, it wasn’t.
Assurant Health, mentioned above, whacked me with a 28% increase in my premiums in July. I’m sure glad that the cost of my health care was going to decrease, or stay the same!
These socialists care nothing about jobs, and nothing about Americans. They live and breath Big Government, period.
Someone want to tell me how long it would take Federal inspectors to check on the safety of 33 deep water wells? If it took longer than one calendar week I’d fire the entire inspection branch’s management.
Start with the ones with the most prior violations and work your way up.
Six months……. this has ZERO to do with safety and everything to do with securing the envronmentalist wacko vote. Since most of the 23,000 are likely GOP voters anyway they don;t care. Plus if they “suffer” for being GOP, so much the better.
While our porkmeister president swims with the feces, our economy continues to tank. But, who cares, it is not affecting him or his overpaid minions.
For Obama, jobs is a 4 letter word.
Straight from the Karl Marx handbook.
Let’s face it, he’s found a way to reduce America’s carbon footprint — kill its economy one way or another, through one nudge or another.
I think they should hire lots of folks to babble on about Hurricane Katrina some more. There must be several venues they have not attempted. Think of the audience! Think of the lies! Think of the children!
I mean since vast numbers of people died in New Orleans alone, aren’t there like, millions left affected by it? Don’t they all have a story to tell?!
My G-d, man! There’s hundreds of jobs.
Errah, Michelle I’m glad you’re getting some cash from NBC for their ad placement and Brian Willams revisit of New Orleans on katrina’s 5th Anniversary. Is there a convention of MSM types in New Orleans for the 5th anniversary of Katrina or is this a misdirection so we’ll all harken back to a Bush debacle and forget about Obama before the election? Seems like we have enough current news to be concerned with while folks in New Orleans still are trying to come back. Maybe those 23000 oil jobs would help. I though Anderson Cooper and Solidad O’Brien had all the available rooms booked.
Let’s keep giving grants to businesses building “green” jobs, like trucks that cost twice as much as similar gas trucks (but run on batteries), or the Volt, which costs 41k, while the exact same gas car costs 20k, but the Volt can run 40 miles on it’s coal powered electical charge, then switches to a gas powered generator to keep the POS running for another 250 miles. Or let’s build a few more windmills on the taxpayer dime. How’s that LA county school subsidy to make them all run on solar power, but now the school district is spending more than they did on the old fuels. Believe it, if there were fuel saving things which work, like hybrids and diesels, the market would sell them at a profit.
This has been piling up. In the Age of Obama, if you have a job, you’re the enemy. If you own a home, you’re the enemy. If you run a business, you’re the enemy. If you hire someone, you’re the enemy. If you’re a citizen, you’re the enemy. There isn’t much left, is there?
I just got my own pun. It’s all Left. Isn’t it?
This is part of the new, vastly more dangerous version of the Cloward-Piven strategy.
Obama has taken Cloward-Piven, which was demand-side targeted only, and included the supply side of the economy.
Whether we make it to 2012 without a major economic disaster is an open question.
And the media will be on the story in 3, 2, 1, … crickets.
And people wonder why the media is useless.
Like they say in Southern Africa:
“Oh, you don’t want to work, you want a job.”
Obambi & Crew are America’s enemies. They are systematically destroying this great nation as planned. Their attacks are on all fronts, with some going completely unnoticed today. America and the world is in danger.
Tarpon, the media isn’t useless, they are complicit.
The estimate of jobs lost due to the drilling moratorium (which does not include the shallow water de facto moratorium that is in place despite the insistence by the feds there is no such thing.) has to be off by a factor of four at least on the low side. Every job lost due to the moratorium will affect at least four jobs in other industry sectors because those workers won’t have money to spend on things like a new car or new clothes or going out to eat. But this report doesn’t talk about that. the “indirect” jobs they refer to in the report are the direct vendors and support personnel to the O&G industry.
If you subscribe to the adage that “Anyone who robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul,” then what Hope-a-Dope is doing by laying waste to the private-sector job market becomes a feature, not a bug.
If a de facto one-party state is the desired outcome, one way to help it along is to create a hell of a lot more “Pauls” who will keep on voting to take it out on the dwindling number of “Peters.”
Regulus;
While I agree with what you said, this isn’t a question of Peter/Paul.
This is an instance of crass economic destruction in pursuit of a radical Collectivist goal…control over how, where, when, and who gets to use energy.
The Gulf Obamic response was CALCULATED to have a political effect…to promote pressure for greater energy regulation and Knee-cap & Raid legislation.
It’s all part of the Cloward Piven strategy for Barry The Job Slayer. Destroy capitalism as we know it, turn it into a crony-takes-all system, leave a small ruling class intact, and turn the rest of us into slaves.
There is another group of people that Obamacare will hit hard that does not get much notice.
The Military.
I work for the Federal Governemnt as an insurance billing technician under title 10 of the USC (I will be the first to admit that my department could use some cuts as we have some of the sterotypical civil servant deadweight). I am not what you would think of as a usual insurance billing tech as the program I work under is different.
Basically, what we do is bill the private insurance of retiree’s and family members that come to the military treatment facility for appointments, even though the patients are covered under the Tri-Care program.
This program does not cost the retiree’s or their family members anything and actually helps them out. It helps via paying their annual deductible for them. This works by us billing a private insurance that they have from a current employer (for example if the company they work for has a Blue Cross insurance)for services they reiceive. If they have not met their annual deductable Blue Cross will tell us that is the case and we write the bill off. If they have met the deductible then Blue Cross sends us a check for the services.
This money helps to supplement the budget that Congress always seems to be cutting. Last year we brought in over $10 million to the system, allot of that went to help cover the costs of state of the art prostetics for our wounded warriors.
With insurance companies looking as though they will be forced out of the market as well as employers forced to drop their employees from employer based health insurance, we are looking at taking a huge hit to what we can bring back into the facility (we are already seeing the effects this year and expect that it will only get worse).
Of course the left does not care as it effects their least favorite group…patriotic Americans who served this nation honorably.
The other sad thing about this is that when the work slows down or completely goes away I doubt that they will lay anyone off (being that it is a government job). This sickens me as I hate to see waste (just one more reason I am going to school for Network Administration and have about 9 months left till I get my degree and can move on).
One can only hope that it’s Obama voters who are losing their jobs.
Obowmao: I guess it depends on whatever the definition of ‘Death Panels’ is!
greenfairie gets the Popeye badge!
Dave Bowman (gazing at the Government monolith)”My God, it’s full of jobs!”
HAL9000 to Dave Bowman…”should I be afraid?”
Dave Bowman to HAL9000…”no, something wonderful is going to happen. The Messiah has a government job for you”.
So what is this… vacation number 63 since he’s been in office? And round of golf number 127………?????
What I’d like to see regarding unemployment figures is….
Obama unemployed.
LOL
Hold on there, Spacey! Since President Obama has had nearly the same amount of time to deal with the Katrina aftermath as President Bush had… I assume all is now well – especially since “The One” has assumed responsibility. At least Congress could just deem it so.
Makes me wonder if Obama is counting every caddy he has used on a golf course and every waiter he has tipped at Martha’s Vineyard as a job saved.
How about Harry Reid’s personal war on American construction jobs??
He single-handedly gave 300,000 taxpayer-funded stimulus construction jobs to illegal aliens:
http://therealharryreid.org/
I’d like to see the insurance companies take that 80% calise to the Supreme Court.
I can’t imagine a scenario where that is considered constitutional.
The WH war on America is more like it…
I thought that too, but here is the big problem. I was in the grocery store a few weeks ago. There was a guy in front of me paying for his purchases then he looked at the cashier and said, I lost my job today. She apologized, then he said, that GD Bush, he deserves to rot in jail. I would say, can you believe that, but I know you can. Liberalism is just plain stupidity.
Liberalism is constipation of the brain (Andrew Wilkow)

If Comrade Obama (PBUH) and his greenie ilk had been “in charge” in 1776 we would still be singing God Save the Queen!
***
And using our eco-friendly outhouses, driving our horses, dying much younger of preventable and curable illnesses, using candles, growing corn when it rained, etc.
***
And 90 percent of us would still be living in a backward, non-technical economy where we work like hell to get our next mouthful of food. No need for serfs to get education.
***
And The Messiah is working hard to return our economy to his socialist “dream”–aka nightmare for the non-Regime members.

Refer to Weimer Germany, Castro Cuba, and Zimbabwe to see how well these plans work out.

Ask not why Obama will destroy the American economy, ask instead how he is to destroy America.
How apropos a name!
Prez Cockroach said it himself during the “Ending Empires” speech…
Of course, with his poor vocabulary skills, (NB: for proof of his “poor vocabulary skills”, look at how often he “mis-speaks” when the 1st Teleprompter’s on holiday…), we must therefore use his actions to clarify intent!
You know — in the same fashion as he himself finds one individual or group has “hate thoughts” for another group due to any less-than-glowing speech about the latter exibited individually or collectively by the former group…
By his actions he obviously meant “freedom”, or perhaps, “The Republic of The United States of America”.
Why is nobody defending Obama? I read this thread hoping the usuals would give me a good laugh.
C’mon you trolls, man-up! Defend your hero! People here are kicking him while he’s down!! Tell us how the stimulus is going to to create zillions of green jobs! How about Obamacare stimulating the economy? Surely that’s kicked in — just trot out the stats on that big win. You must have something? No?
