Dept. of Social Justice strikes again: USS Cole bombing prosecution “shelved”

In another disgraceful act of the Obama Department of Social Justice, the Washington Post reports that the feds are “shelving” prosecution of a major USS Cole bombing suspect at Gitmo. Why? Because of bad optics.
The Obama administration has shelved the planned prosecution of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the alleged coordinator of the Oct. 2000 suicide attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, according to a court filing. The decision at least temporarily scuttles what was supposed to be the signature trial of a major al-Qaeda figure under a reformed system of military commissions.
…Military officials said a team of prosecutors in the Nashiri case has been ready go to trial for some time. And several months ago, military officials seemed confident that Nashiri would be arraigned this summer.
“It’s politics at this point,” said one military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss policy. He said he thinks the administration does not want to proceed against a high-value detainee without some prospect of civilian trials for other major figures at Guantanamo Bay.
A White House official disputed that.

Our elected officials have no idea how to deal with terrorism except roll over and say “please don’t hurt me”. They think if they don’t look at reality, the terrorist will go away. Well, we tried that during the plane hijackings. The only way to fight terrorists it to kill the terrorists. No talking to them, no compromises, no pandering.

If one of Obama’s daughters was on the USS Cole, I wonder whether he would have decided to delay the prosecution.
It’s amazing that politicians still don’t get it. Once you decide to do things for ‘politics’, you are instantly making the wrong decision.
I have a feeling that Ft. Hood murder will get the same treatment. It will be years before they finally go to trial, if ever. It seems the rop type get better treatment than others when it comes going to trial to give us justice for their actions.

ah yes, the forgotten terrorist attack. The Cole attack gets credit for waking me up about this terrorism. It was after the Africa embassy bombings. embassy bombings didn’t register with me because I know all the political upheaval there. I thought it was just normal tribal fighting.
But the Cole thing was entirely different. this is our military. it is a battle ship designed to fight. It takes some kind of nerve to attack it. And they killed innocent soldiers who were not fighting.
I am still uber pissed about this incident. Probably moreso than even 9/11 that had to happen after the Cole bombing to wake most everyone else up.
The Cole is US territory wherever it goes. We were all attacked when it was attacked. We should have bombed the crap out of that country that allowed it.
America is weak. If I was an enemy army of America (Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela, whoever) I would welcome a war with America.
America will put its soldiers in a position where you can kill them, but will put their soldiers in a position where they are not allowed to kill. America will never win another war.
It is sad that we are afraid of attacking Pakistan because they have nuclear weapons (with no ability to deliver them to our side of the world), when all my youth was preparing for the expected nuclear war with Russia.
Now, if you have a nuclear bomb, America is afraid of you. . . and nobody is afraid of America. thank goodness for democracy. At this pace some other country will need to defend and spread it because America won’t.
We don’t even defend our military vessels, nor care when one gets attacked. Why did N Korea sink a S Korea ship? They knew nothing would happen to them.

He was then held for years, without trial, while we tried to figure out how to get him to trial. His RIGHT to a speedy trial has been pretty badly abused.
Our own Government, through its inept policies of how to deal with these folks have created the potential for a Legal Loophole…
You cannot delay a trial for Political Reasons, or Government ineptness, and still follow the Constitutional mandate for the RIGHT to a speedy trial.
I listened to Fox 360 most of the morning, and not a word of this horrendous miscarriage of justice. I’m with Elm Creek Smith….locked and loaded. I’m not going down without a fight. This muslim-in-chief won’t allow his lackey, Holder, to do a damn thing to this terrorist scum. This action signals trouble on several levels and like Hangfire said, somebody’s going to cross the Rubicon.
I’m pretty sure Holder was already lacking the enthusiasm to prosecute this case. The Arizona lawsuit is much more significant and needs the lazerlike focus of the DOJs time and energy as do all other pending cases against any US states and citizens who dare to take a stand against this administrations policies.
Our DOJ needs a turnover at the helm. They are willing to sue the State of Arizona over immigration, make tidy little decisions not to deport 17,000 illegals that were already in the pipeline to be escorted back to the border and find the time to go after Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Yet, this guy is guilty of mass murder and it’s on hold. I have no confidence left in our DOJ nor the rule of law.
Can only happen with a turnover of administration. This DOJ only does its master’s bidding.

A Muslim could make both confessions (saying both “I am a Christian” and reciting the Shahada in Arabic).
A Christian could not.
No one can confess the Shahada in Arabic without denying Jesus Christ.
No one can confess the Shahada in Arabic and simultaneously be a true Christian.

Any wonder now why the prosecution of the U.S.S. Cole bombing jihadist has been “shelved”?

I think it’s worth remembering how this attack happened, and would be worth a column from you to remind people.
It was Clinton and Maddie Halfbright who decided the USS Cole should put in at Yemen as a “show the flag” kind of thing, and to put on fuel rather than fueling at sea as they usually did up to that point.
That little tidbit disappeared from the media shortly after it was reported.
We still haven’t even executed Sgt. Akbar yet. I wonder if the Feds will commute his sentence to life?
The liberals won’t even indict those who attacked a warship in a clear act of war??

It happened 10 years ago. Any intelligence gathering and trial preparation should have been over within a year. One more year for the military tribunal, death by hanging sentences if found guilty, and one appeal of the verdict.
