‘Restoring Honor’ at the Lincoln Memorial; Update: Live Stream Included
**Written by Doug Powers
Today is Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” gathering at the Lincoln Memorial (this is also the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s “I have a dream” speech, which you can watch here). Beck partnered with the Special Operations Warrior Foundation to sponsor the event, which starts at 10 a.m. eastern, and you can watch it live on C-Span. You can watch live via Facebook here. MLK’s niece Alveda King will be there, as will Sarah Palin and many current and former members of the US military.
We’re hearing a lot about people criticizing the timing of the event, calling it insensitive for having the rally on the anniversary of Dr. King’s speech — but since most of this criticism is coming from people who are calling critics of the ground zero area mosque over-sensitive, let’s move on.
I couldn’t make it to DC today, but there are a few people attending who are sending photos my way, so I’ll use this space today to pass along any pictures or stories that may be of interest.
Not to be outdone, of course, Al Sharpton has a counter-rally scheduled after Beck’s event around a reflecting puddle on Constitution Ave NW, and C-Span will carry that at noon. One person who Sharpton stood up for and defended not long ago will not be able to attend.
There are long lines (one example) at DC area Metro stations.
A while back, Bill O’Reilly reportedly told Glenn Beck that if he got over 100,000 people at today’s event, Beck needs to anchor his 8 p.m. time slot. Judging from this picture taken at 7:30 this morning I’d say Bill can go ahead and start sliding out of the way.
A friend just emailed to say there are probably a couple hundred thousand people there already — which, after we run it through the MSM Tea Party Crowd Size Re-Estimator, comes to about 12,000.
Here’s another picture from somebody there.
Update:
The live stream is up now:
Update II: Uh-oh, in spite of hundreds of thousands of peaceful patriots converging on Washington who will probably leave the place as clean or cleaner than they found it, the MSM already has their lead story for tonight: Tea Party vandals invade nation’s capital
Update III: Equal time — CNN’s live coverage of Al Sharpton’s rally. It’s a more intimate setting.
Update IV: Via Sister Toldjah, the New York Times is already spinning this as the Tea Party “claiming MLK’s mantle.” They’re hardly “claiming” Dr. King’s mantle — but maybe sharing it. And isn’t that what King’s message was all about?
Update V: Albert Pujols and Tony La Russa are there, but it was Palin who just hit it out of the park.
Update VI: Crowd estimates. It’ll probably end up being higher than those numbers.
Update whatever-the-next-Roman-numeral-is: Here’s a great aerial shot of the crowd.
Update IXEIDXXVI: If anybody is looking for people who are “dishonoring” Dr. King’s memory today, unfortunately they’ll need look no further than the memorial to Dr. King, because the Code Pink harpies will be there:

Also, 2,000-3,000 showed up for Sharpton’s rally. Wow, that means that only 1/2 of 1 percent of all the people at the two rallies weren’t racists.
Update ∞: Should we hold our breath waiting for the MSM to point out the apparent lack of diversity at Sharpton’s rally? Didn’t think so.

I think this is going to be wonderful. Dr. King’s niece will be speaking also. I hope and pray that there will be no acorn, seiu, etc. there to try and undo this rally. We will be watching on cspan when it comes on. Thanks Doug for posting this and I look forward to updates.
L
Someone told me Beck asked that no one hold up any signs. I guess he is afraid someone might hold up the dreaded “Where’s the Birth Certificate” sign.
Thanks Doug.
While we have the race baiters telling their followers that this goes aginst everything the great MLK had dreamed of, we have MLK’s niece taking an active part in this event. She knows what her uncle’s dreams were.
As a nation, we need to come together to protect and advance MLK’s dream and defend the Constitution.
Just don’t rely on Google Maps to get you to the Lincoln Memorial correctly. For some strange, unexplained* reason, Google Maps since yesterday has been directing “Lincoln Memorial” hits 1/2 mile away, to the FDR Memorial.
(I just checked again; it’s finally fixed.)
* Wouldn’t have anything at all to do with the far-left liberal group-think infesting Google, now would it?
I was going to say that Obama needs to pay attention to this and maybe leard a few things, but he never had any honor to begin with much less to restore.
maybe leard a few things
It is impossible to understand why people are vilifying this event. What could be wrong with a peaceful gathering in the name of Restoring Honor? I guess the only explanation is that those who criticize this don’t know what honor means.
By the way, they just sang the National Anthem. Oh, the horror, the travesty!! These people sure are dishonoring Dr. King. /sarc off
Glenn just said that both sides next to the reflecting pool are filled, the grassy area next to is is filled, and the crowd goes all the way back to the Washington Memorial. Sounds like that adds up to well OVER 500,000 and still counting. Of course, the MSM will say there were “a few thousand” there. The pictures won’t lie, but the media will. I guess the media is unfamiliar with the concept of honor also.
I’m so jealous, wishing I coulda gone….God bless and keep them all safe.
The Rev. Al Sharpton Was quoted as saying that Glenn Beck was attempting to hijack Dr. King’s memory and the civil rights movement. Dr. King’s legacy belongs to all Americans. There is no reason to stage a counter-rally except that grand standing over civil rights has long been Sharpton’s bread and butter. The Reverend Al Really needs to get a clue.
Right on quote Doug. Pack you bags Bill you have been relegated to the dustbin of history.
*I believe MLK would be proud to see such a turnout; Beck is trying to move the nation forward the right way, as MLK preached it; There will always be the haters like the MSM, the Democrat Party, and Sharpton, but they are but a speck of fly excrement on an elephant; The nations’ sentiment is with this rally; The next major rally will take place 11/3 all across the country; Let’s get results, not give excuses!
Anyone able to find a webcam that is showing the crowd at all? I’ve checked a number of them on trafficland.com, and they all make the area around this rally look rather deserted. There’s not even the foot traffic you’d expect to see with this many people.
Makes one wonder.

Not even worth a pipe dream, like all the top pop race hustlers/”leaders”. I assure you from in the trenches in their grass roots that they ultimately want to dance and party on the graves of Conservative/Republican ideology. You cannot reason or “reach across the aisle” or “get along gang” with them. There is no compromise with us to them, like being “just a little bit pregnant.” They wish us ill to cores of their hearts, and sadly much of my family is in the MSNBC lemming row with them, already calling Alveda King “the outcast of the King family.” Do not give Al, Jesse, or any of them any slack because they’ll just hang you with it. Don’t make their day.

As usual, the clueless and kneejerking NYT’s is calling this a racist event. Read Charles Blow’s piece and you’ll see. Interesting everyone forgets who really filibustered the Civil Rights Acts of 1964.
So, if this rally is all about HONOR, and it is multi-racial, multi-cultural, is giving millions of dollars to the Wounded Warrior Foundation, and there is a definite spiritual awakening permeating througout the gathering…does that mean that those who are lying, cheating, misrepresenting and vilifying this event are dishonorable, dispicable, corrupt, and evil? Yes…YES.IT.DOES!! They are showing the truth of who and what they are, and honorable people will no longer tolerate it.
Course, this isn’t a TEA Party event, but to them, we all look alike…
The award for HOPE is for honesty, truth and trust. Ewwwwwww…watch out progressives! Those concepts are so eeeevil!! Be sure to plug your ears so you won’t be tainted by the truth.
More evidence of the stupidty, bigotry and intolerance of leftists. This event is non political, troll.
Some people tell the truth, a concept foreign to leftists, just like honor.
Just listened to Albert Pujols from the St. Louis Cardinals. It’s great to be able to watch the live stream of this. Of course the State Run media is not going to give this event two minutes of play. But people are watching.
I wish I could have gone as well, but those of us at home can be with them in spirit. God bless them all and wishing them a safe journey home today. The patriotism keeps growing and what a wonderful sight for the children attending. Big lump in throat.
20,000? HUH? Doug…you were right with your MSM decoder
You all know this is on C-Span, don’t you? That is where I am watching it.
Yep happyscapper. Been watching it since it came on.
The crowd is huge and the points being made are right on target.
They will not be able to cover up the true magnitude of this gathering. There will be overhead pictures of ALL the people, which surely number in the 500,000+ category.
I must confess I am a little disappointed in the program so far. Yes, it is uplifting and honorable. But they really need to step up the pace and get something going that will rev up the crowd. I was hoping that maybe Glenn had gotten the Mormon Tabernacle Choir or someone equally inspiring. With a huge crowd like this, you need big energy transmitted in the music and the speeches. There is still time and I hope this picks up a bit. A lot of speeches get a bit tiresome after a while. I would have hoped Glenn would use his showmanship skills to keep up the pace. Also, it needs the old fashioned patriotic singing that people are familiar with, not just these long, drawn-out songs that repeat the same words over and over until you want to go to sleep. I want to hear “God Bless America” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”. Come-on Glenn…step it up!
Alveda King is an awesome speaker!!! God bless her!
Watching—great…
Geez, what a gross over reaction to my comment.
There are no non-political events.
Looks like Beck heard you happyscrapper.
Sharpton will look a fool.. And the Dem’s have not tried to hijack Abe Lincoln, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next school textbook say he is Dem.. BROTHER..
Don’t forget Arne Duncan, sec. of Ed. is at Sharptons rally..
When was the last time he spoke about love, Jesus, God???
When there is a liberal event, the cameras zoom in so the miniscule crowd looks bigger that it is. The “million man march” was closer to 300k-400k but the liberal media did all it could to convince the rubes it was over 1 million.
Now, when a gathering is held that does nothing more that to enunciate what our founders gave us; the freedom, liberty, and opportunity to be our best, to use our freedom of speech while we scorn the divisivness of socialism and liberal hate, to be true Americans, what we get from the hateful media is 20k attended.
The pendulum will swing back one day. I may not be alive to see it, but when it does, the long overdue death of socialism will finally be a reality.
Glenn is on a roll now. Tellin it like it is.
Strangely, I have actually heard a student say this. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stay and correct the mush-brained moron. I would have loved to find out the name of his history teacher. Probably this previous convict.
Family members have said that MLK was a conservative Republican. Talk about hijacking a public figure and rebranding them. Perhaps that’s why Jesse and the boys (Sharpton) have gotten so bent over this event?
Yes, Scrapper, Alveda King is very motivational and I enjoyed the group with her – especially the young singer.
I missed Sarah Palin though, hope a vid is available later, because the LSM will never say anything nice about her speech.
Well, it is going to be hard to prove Glenn Beck is a racist and a bigot if you listen to this. Won’t stop the haters. Won’t stop the anti-Mormons. Glenn’s not perfect, nor does he claim to be. He’s not really all that polished in many respects, but he doesn’t claim to be. He is either a great researcher himself or he hires some really good ones, because his facts are indisputable. You can argue about interpretations, but not the facts, the quotes…which are NOT out of context, by the way. When people say Glenn Beck is promoting himself, they miss the fact that he does that to promote what he believes in, and frankly, that’s this country and its inspired founding.
If you don’t love Alveda King, you don’t know what true religion is all about. Marvelous woman, and a very, very brave woman at that.
Oh, man. I crack every time a bagpiper plays ‘Amazing Grace’ – can’t even sing it in church. Looking for more Kleenex now.
Glenn just talked about the scars this nation suffers and how we must get past that. A baby doesn’t learn to walk by looking backwards. We’ve got to put our foot out and don’t look back. Our Republic is doomed if we don’t.
My guess is that the haters will not listen but have much to say. More lies. This day was about faith and God and getting America back to our greatness. God bless America. I wish I could have been there!!
Wow.
Amazing. No words, but some tears.
May God Bless America.
Watched what I could with duty and other tasks calling…it was pretty inspirational.
Now that the formal part is over, it’s time to do the work. It has got to be more than just words. It must be deeds. It must be action.
This thing has the feel of a Christian revival which makes me wonder. If there is one group that has been broadly disenfranchised in destroying the Reagan coalition, it was Christian coalition.
Had those 7 million mostly southerners voted instead of staying home in 2008, the GOP would probably have lost anyway but Congress would have been much different.
This gathering is more of a reminder to the entrenched establishment that what makes America exceptional is still alive and well and “we are coming to get you”.
On another note, there are too many Yankee caps in the audience. As we Red Sox fans learned from early childhood, evil always wears a Yankee cap.
I am happy to say I attended another bigoted haters group that met in DC; Promise Keepers. I asked a mounted police officer how big the crowd was compared to the million man march. His response? Four to five times bugger. The only crowd that came close was the bi-centennial. This crowd is big. Want to get a real gauge of the size? Ask a Mounted police officer who has been to these rallies.
WOW!!! Glenn Beck may not have heard me, but God did. This turned out to be a truly inspiring and uplifting event. Glenn is so gifted, and God took a shell of a man who was wallowing in the worst kind of depravity and gave him the power to inspire millions to honor and truth. Praise God! I do think we are experiencing another Great Awakening in this country and I definitely have HOPE for us!
Phil, you’re funny. But, yes, ‘we are coming to get you’ and you can watch ‘Bambi molt his skin like a snake right before your very eyes. It will be touted in the LSM as his real persona – he simply couldn’t do anything with the radical left while it enjoyed a majority. It will be a wonder to behold.
I hope we can actually get an account of how many were as this rally. I wonder how many saw this on cspan? I thought this was great. Hubby and I had tears at Amazing Grace with the singing. I saw Sarah had tears also. I am so happy there did not seem to be any there that disrupted this.
L
Is anyone going to watch the Sharpton event? I may want to see what he has to offer, then compare and contrast. I can tell you one thing…if he even HINTS at any criticism of Glenn Beck or the conservative movement, he will be making a big BIG mistake.
Oh, BTW, yahoo:
The conservative broadcaster [Beck] addresses tens of thousands at his controversial Washington rally.
I’ve been watching in between chores. Beck has done an amazing thing. I see his message has been misconstrued by the usual suspects. The place he chose was masterful, in front of the Lincoln Memorial which honors the man that said “A house divided against itself cannot stand”, This is the message that Beck is imparting, those with no depth in understanding the significance of this principle have no business asking us to trust them with any form of leadership.
Another “HAR!” moment

happyscrapper#49,
NO, not our home. I feel sure they will somehow manage to spin Glenn’s rally.
L
C-Span said they would repeat it in prime time…I think that is what they said.
Even the most basic fact is ignored.
This isn’t a TEA Party event.
And the “argument” about conservatives (and others with them) and race will not be quiet until the Collective sees its lie is fruitless.
P.S. Thanks Doug for calling it “ground zero” and not GZ.
I too missed Sarah’s speech.
If you find it, please post the link here.
Yes, a nice, peaceful rally that will surely leave the grounds cleaned up. We Christian Conservatives are nothing if not clean and tidy. Ha!! Seriously though, Glenn promised that he would have a fairly accurate and provable count. He said he would explain it on Monday. I noticed there were some planes and a helicopter overhead (in a NO-FLY area!), so I am guessing that he arranged that…I have no idea how he could have, but there definitely were planes up there!
Do they do ratings of C-Span? It would be interesting to see!
Though I had to step out for a brief while during the start of the speeches, I’m really glad that I got to hear much of it.
Seeing Sarah Palin standing behind Glenn Beck really rekindled my desire to cast my vote for her.
Funny how the Live Feed of the Beck event has suddenly gone dead on the CNN site.
Wasn’t able to make it. Parents are there as are some other family. Can’t wait until they make it back home so I can plow through the pictures they have.
One of my biggest pet peeves…calling these things “controversial”. Controversial to who? The idiots who are blinded to the truth, that’s who. Who exactly is labeling these things “controversial”? The progressives, that’s who. There is NOTHING controversial about Truth, and Honor. These fools have to live with themselves every day and it must suck to be them.
Tawana Brawley will be a keynote speaker at the Sharpton rally and the mothers of the Dunbar Village Four will speak on how their sweet young boys were framed by da man.
AMEN!
Just bear in mind, scrappy, MLK’s speech was PLENTY controversial in the day he gave it.
Everybody wants to think otherwise, but King came to divide. It had to be that way. The status quo HAD to be disrupted…just like now.
The only people who don’t like controversy are the people who like things as they are.
CSPAN said they’ll be repeating it tonight and sometime during the daytime.
txvet2 – thanks. I’ll be there and haul out the Kleenex again.
Start packing Bill! I knew it would take a Glenn Beck to get rid of him One way or the other. YAY!
What I thought was really amazing, Glenn said that a few days ago that he hoped to give the SOWF a check for 1.5m(I believe that was the number) but they were 600,000 short. He said that within a few days they had made up that number. He said today the total was over 3.?m! I hope I have the numbers right, but they did far excede their goal.
L
Do you really believe that egotistical interrupter would give up his cozy slot? Ha! They will have to drag him out kicking and screaming. I do think Glenn should be on later in the evening when more people are home, although most folks have DVR. He could easily take any of the prime time slots and I wouldn’t miss them one bit.
not a thing…they are afraid of the truth and what’s coming down the track….FREEDOM FROM GOVERNMENT
You’re right, Rags. I just don’t understand why they think the TRUTH is controversial. But I guess that is because they can’t see truth, but only something they disagree with and that makes it controversial.
CBC reporting as a ” Tea Party ” event .
Disgusting but predictable .
FYI, Glenn will be on Chris Wallace show on Fox tomorrow for an interview.
L
Shep Smith comes to mind.
I can’t help thinking about Kathy Griffin and what she said when receiving a golden statue award for some dumb thing. Go here to see what she said. http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/griffin.aspIf someone like Glenn Beck can sink so low and end up so magnificent…maybe there is even hope for Kathy Griffin. I am going to pray for her.
And now, I am sure this crowd of thieves is stealing the trash and hiding it in whatever trash receptacles provided or putting it in their pockets.
The SEIU will be apoplectic when all that overtime for clean-up duty is canceled.
Ditto what you said flmom. The liberal Shep and the sleezy Bill and exit stage left any time.
Disgusting but predictable. That is more proof of the “accuracy” of the MSM reporting. They can’t even get a simple fact like that straight! Glenn Beck is not a Tea Party member and he does not go to Tea Parties and he does not speak at them. The gathering was advertised everywhere as a “Restoring Honor” event. What part of any of that says “Tea Party”? These reporters are so inaccurate on everything, why would anyone listen to them or believe anything they report? Wake up America! The MSM is not your friend…they are another arm of the Progressive/Socialst movement.
By the way, I am not trashing Tea Parties. They are great. But this was not a Tea Party!!!
Im encouraged to see so many there. We need these types of gatherings to counter the propaganda of the race baiters, and the corrupt media. This dem Congress, this administration, and the elitist corrupt media are at war with America. Their death throes begin on November 2, 2010.I may not agree with some of Beck’s libertarian policies, but he is a true patriotic American, who is out there, as is our hostess, fighting the good fight for all of who also truly love our Country and what it stands for, and want us to return to that greatness.
Sorry, I think I screwed up that link to the Kathy Griffin info.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/griffin.asp
As far as I’m concerned O’Reilly and Smith can grab Geraldospitter on their way out as well. Since Beck didn’t feature a mariachi band w/dancers he’ll have something snarky to say about it too. I will be interesting to see how Huck treats it tonight on his show?
Dont worry Happy. The corrupt media, and the lying demagoguing race baiters in Congress are all on the way out. I feel that they have finally woken up the sleeping giant that is the majority in this country of traditional law abiding citizens that have decided that they have had enough of liberals running rough shod over this Country. The liberal traitors realize this, and are scared to death that they are not going to get the America that they want: a socialist “utopia”. A beast is always its most viscous in its death throes, and we can expect more of the same and worse from these low lives. But the ballot box gives us the last say. Hang in there.
Why does anyone expect anything close to the truth from the MSM?
“And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.”
If it is good the MSM hates it. If it is evil they worship it.
A Jewish lady called in to Glenn’s radio show yesterday and was really thankful he was going to have this rally. She said that 8/28=18(adding the numbers 2+8+8) which is a very special number for the prayers they do. Also she said Jerusalem has USA in the middle of the name. I thought that was really amazing. I just pray our country NEVER puts Israel under the bus, but with this bho, we never know! I pray for Israel and their people daily.
L
You are right, of course. They are getting mighty desparate. I am encouraged by that, and I do believe that the right side will win. God is in charge and evil will fail! I have a feeling God was wondering if we were ever going to return to Him or if we were going to let this great country die. We are telling God not to give up on us and I believe He is listening.
letget – I pray for Israel everyday too. It will be them and us in a showdown in the ME if things continue to spiral out of control as they have been. I also pray Netanyahu does not swallow the poison hemlock that ‘Bambi is serving up. He is no friend to them.
O/T, so sorry, but this is important for Texans Houston voters. Drudge has=10,000 voters machines destroyed in suspicious fire. Also below that=Registrar alleges major voter fraud. Look out people, it seems the Nov. election might hang on mail in aka fraud ballots! I fear we will see more of this before Nov.!
L
The left don’t know how to honor African Americans, just abuse them. Good for Beck to upstage them in a way that would make MLK proud. I will never forget the aftermath of his death. Beck has captured that spirit.
This would amount to a coup, and it would be an obligation for the military to arrest the entire administration.
God gave us freedom, which no man (or government) has the right to take from us. Those are indeed “inalienable rights”. Every time the world needed the US to save it from evil, we have risen to the call. That was no accident. God knows the heart of the oppressors in this government, and in this country that seek to take away our God given rights of freedom and the pursuit of happiness, and I believe, with His guidance, we will prevail in November, and beyond.
I love how one of the final speakers (I think it was Dave Roever but I’m not 100% sure) talked about how “eight twenty-eight” does not just refer to today’s date, but also to a passage from Romans:
RedPill, chills. People on every conservative website are commenting about how well it was done, yet the media will do everything they can to downplay anything positive coming out of it.
I think MLK would have been honored by todays rally. Also over 100,000 watched on facebook. If someone else commented on that fact, sorry. Did not read all comments. God Bless America!
True then. And true again now.
Yes, I immediately opened my Bible and looked it up. Perfect verse for a perfect day. I guess I will never forget that particular reference. Romans 8:28. Perfect.

Absolutely! He was a “Reverend” for a reason. He was a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He would have loved the unity, humility, and honor of today’s rally, as Americans of all backgrounds united together to pray and seek His guidance for our country.
Hubby and I watched the entire rally. Not one word of hate, vitriol, racism, or snarkiness. Truly uplifting and inspiring. Kudos, Glenn Beck!

Yes, and as times get rough, remember that “all things” means “ALL things”.
No matter how bad things seem, remember this. Not all things are good, but to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose, all things work together for good.
Even bad things can be used by God to work together for good to those who love Him.
I just tuned in a bit to the Sharpton gathering. A black man (I suspect almost 100% attending are black) was going on and on about the accomplishments of black people. I fear they still don’t get it. It is not about the color of your skin, it is the content of your character. You are at a MLK rally…remember??? Why is everything about color to those people? They are the bigots. Everything is based on race.

Interesting…
I can’t recall a peep of disapproval when THE ONE gave his AMAZING speech on the 45th anniversary of Dr. King’s speech.
Funny, huh…
