‘Restoring Honor’: The Day After Wrap-Up & Whitewash
**Written by Doug Powers
The challenge: to trivialize this in order to dismiss it as irrelevant:

No simple task.
The best way dismiss the gathering is to make it into a racial issue (no big surprise). This requires proving it’s all about racism, but in order to do so, the media must wade into the crowd, find unwhite people, and patronize them by asking what the hell they’re doing there (it’s been done previously, but they rarely get the answer they’re looking for).
Reporters never seem ashamed of the fact that they’re singling out black people and essentially calling them stupid right to their faces without knowing anything about them (that’s kind of racist if you ask me), and a CBS reporter certainly didn’t shy away from doing so yesterday:
CBS News: “I’m noticing that there are not a lot of minorities here today, why do you think that is?”
Black woman at Glenn Beck rally: “They’re probably over there with Al Sharpton.”
Yeah, she was right:

I waited with race-baited breath for a reporter to head over to Sharpton’s rally and question the lack of diversity there, but it never happened.
In any case, does this girl at the Restore America rally appear to concerned for her safety or feel like she doesn’t belong? Ah, the naivety of youth (click the pic to enlarge):
Poor kid is obviously frightened beyond belief.
Now for some “compare & contrast” as far as cleanliness goes. Here’s the National Mall, post Restoring Honor rally, where hundreds of thousands of anti-environment, non-green, polluting right wingers had been gathered:
And here’s the Mall after Obama’s inauguration — the ironic aftermath of a party consisting of a million environmentally conscious progressives who voted in 2008 in part for a cleaner planet in order to fight climate change (h/t HAP):
Finally, by way of Ed Driscoll, it’s time to play “how many factual errors can you find in this CNN screen-grab?” (Hint: there are at least three)

Did you find all three?
Unless I’m mistaken, it’s Beck speaking, not Palin. Her named is “SaraH” not “Sara” — and she ran for vice president and not president. I think CNN got the Chilean miner thing right though, so credit where credit is due.
Update: Is Glenn Beck running for president?
Fun to think about, if for no other reason than the Scanners-like effect Beck has on the heads of the left might spread to voting booths.
Update II: Bitter clingers, that’s what they are.
Update III: Lowball crowd size estimate of the day: CBS News reports about 87,000 attended (apparently they got the rally figure mixed up with the total of how many Democrats are in CBS, NBC and ABC’s newsrooms). NBC reported 300,000, and if you don’t hear event organizers saying there were more than that, it’s because 300,000 was the limit of their permit.

I watched our local news last night. They called it a Tea Party gathering headed by Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. They said there were “thousands” in attendance. I need to stop watching this crap because it is starting to upset me. I know I shouldn’t get upset, but when news people in my own town, who I have always watched and liked, start giving bad information, I get mad! They are going to hear from me this a.m. I am tired of these people getting away with shoddy, lazy, even dishonest reporting!!
*Is CNN still happening?; I had no idea they had devolved into a long running SNL skit; Look out Comedy Central!
happyscrapper, maybe it’s time we all create a mini critique blog of our local news organizations. Then link it to them by email and snail mail so they get the message. Or Facebook your findings so others will start to pay attention. We would never tolerate our families, friends and business associates lie to us. Why allow the local media to lie to our faces?
***
HI HAPPYSCRAPPER–#1. Just blow off the bad AMERICAN PRAVDA media reporting about the “few thousand” disgruntled White Racists who showed up at Glenn Beck’s nonevent. No need to believe your eyes or video recordings of this large crowd.
***
We will feel a lot better after these “few thousand” show up unexpectedly on November 2, 2010 and vote a lot of Comrade Obama (PBUH) enablers out of office.
***
And after a few more Recovery Summers–and continued economic damage due to tax hikes and bad economic actions–the “few thousand” will strike again in the November 2012 elections.
***
REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

Over 100 thousand watched the rally on facebook along with D.C. cops estimating 300 thousand in attendence. So if you ask me that is waaaaaay more then a few thousand.
NBC reported about 87,000…they also believe in the toothfairy and obama.
I just can not understand media’s continued dishonesty. We of the lower class now have more means to find the truth. Do they think we can not see the pictures on the internet of the rally and capable of doing the math?
Oh wait I just answered my own question!
The left is running scared, should read the Beck bashing comments over at cnn.
How could there be a lot of blacks at these rallies? Ninety+ percent of blacks always vote Democrat and more than 93% voter for Obama. How many does that leave? If you disagree with Obama, you are disagreeing with almost all black people by definition. It’s not a “race thang” with blacks?
So why isn’t this an anti-Semitic thing too? More than 90% of Jews also voted for Obama.
CNN. Just wating for their bailout.
The problem is that many many people don’t see the videos or the pictures because they only watch MSM. That is what the progressives are counting on. An uninformed public will vote for the ones who can spin and lie the best.
I could do that, but that means I would have to actually watch their newscasts. I guess I could take one for the Gipper! We have to know what the enemy is doing if we want to stop them. That will be the hard part, just putting up with having to hear their lies. But you are right, it would be good for them to know that people are not happy with thier incredibly bad reporting!
Hey Phil, many well meaning and unaware citizens voted for obama only because of the lies he fed them and the promise of hope and change he delivered upon, which only the progressives wanted.
A racist is one who calls the other a racist, or, as children say “it takes one to know one”.
That’s a great picture of a beautiful little black girl with the American flag.
Does anyone know if cspan has a rating system like the other networks to give a number who watch an event? We watched the entire thing and to my knowledge, there was not one racist thing I heard.
L
That hardly explains blacks and Jews voting for Obama as a block. For blacks, voting for Obama was about racial solidarity. It was about race. Period.
Beck was brilliant!!!!
Al Sharpton should have stayed home yesterday and certainly have stayed off TV. I’ve seen dead flowers look better than he did. He truly believed that he was going to up stage Beck. The race pimps, media propagandists and DC elites better be really scared. They have made themselves irrelevant.
what a great comment: “these are my kind of people, Americans.” Darrell Postel understands what it means to be an American…the ditsy redhead seems to have a problem understanding what he meant. that’s not surprising.
http://hindenblog1.blogspot.com/2010/08/burn-statisticians.html
My little round-up of the reportage…
Just what Seminary or College did Sharpton get his Divinity degree from? Where did he become a “Reverend”?
That term is thrown around so carelessly — like calling everyone ‘racist’ — that, to me, it is losing its value, also.
Have you ever noticed the huge amount of so-called “reverends” there are? The woods is full of ‘em!
Happy, I wonder if this tactic of misreporting the numbers would backfire on the progressives somewhat.
If 87K is all they reported on one station, those uninformed Dems listening, may remain complacent, thinking that they’ll still have power after November. They may not fight too hard for their candidate or even go vote.
Also, by their misreporting of the numbers we, the informed, just become more steadfast.
It’s amazing how you can call people who are driven ideologically for the restoration of honor and freedom for ALL Americans the bigoted bad-guys, but the ones who rely upon fear, hate, and skin-color are called the tolerant good-guys. Up is down. Left is right. Goodness is evil. Right is wrong. The MSM is completely 180 degrees out-of-phase with what is happening anywhere. No wonder they are dying…
And artificially inflate their ratings?
That’s what I always think when I see some Conservative blogger critiquing a column by Paul Krugman. If Conservatives would stop paying so much attention to him, he’d just fade away.
Let the crazy and/or dishonest media members disappear into the obscurity they deserve. Find something more uplifting to pay attention to.
With the rally over, and the day-after reporting by the msm, on display is proof positive that the left is at war with decency, at war with the truth, and at war with traditional America. The left is losing the battle of ideas, so all they can (and always) do is level outrageous allegations of racism, and other ad hominems.
I watched Rev Charlatan on Geraldo last night, and he was reduced to admitting that the rally consisted of well behaved people exercising their First Amendment rights; but said that his criticism was because Beck didnt “act like Beck” (as supposedly Beck said he would) so he was surprised. Charlatan said that when Beck had said before the rally that he was reclaiming the civil rights era, that is what Charlatan, and the other civil rights demagogues, found objectionable. Why?
As Beck said, black people do not own civil rights era, nor do they own ML King’s vision. Charlatan was visibly depressed. The race baiters, and victim-mongerors appear down because Beck appeared on national television yesterday, and showed why he has tens of millions of followers. It was obvious to all of America to see that the “stereotype” of Beck created by the rabid dog lying media, had nothing to do with the Glenn Beck at the rally. Rational people already knew this. The demagogues were outed. Hopefully there is a special place in hell for these morally bankrupt people, lying to keep people enslaved to government, and lying to try to keep themselves relevant. Beck’s rally was profound.
Journolist talking points are out: http://news.google.com/news/search?q=overwhelmingly+white
One of the funniest things I ran across was at Daily Kos. A long strange explanation, even using math, attributing the appearance of a very large crowd to people sitting on the ground on blankets, thus making it appear to be a bigger crowd than it was. I swear, you cannot make this stuff up. LOL
I would say that 65% or more of the people on the stage with Glenn were black or Native American. How can anyone say this was just the ‘whites’ that were there? Glenn even said one of the speakers was a d, but he could not say who it was. I would imagine that there may have been more than one d there on the stage!
L
If you think that was a really big crowd, just wait and see the one that shows up on November 2,2010.
Great catch Doug. A visceral illustration that what is said is often verified or negated by what is done. That little detail speaks volumes!
Another interesting tidbit is the perenial “crowd estimate controversy”. Beck rally: CBS – 87K; NBC – 300K; Beck organizers (and NYT!!) – 500K. Clearly a matter of perspective vs objective, no?
No controversy re the Sharpton counter rally though – “Several hundred”
Spin that one Olby.
No, you’re wrong. They can, and do, make this stuff up.
Of course, the crowd in actual attendance was a fraction of the total.
Funny that nobody is mentioning the TV viewers and Facebook followers.
Or not…
Yes indeed…it will be huge and the dims won’t like the results…
Anybody seen a comparison of the crowd photos from this an other events? I would be interested in seeing it.
The AP reported that the Beck gathering of “mostly white” attendees, but while mentioning the Sharpton event there was no mention that it was “primarily black” citizens who attended.
The article seemed to be more focused (and happy about) the taunting between some of both groups as they passed each other…ironic, since this is what the Beck event was about…restoring honor, and the notion that America should be color-blind.
Why is it that so many of us live and preach color-blindness, only to have that message quashed by the black race traders, at every turn?
I think, most of us are ready to complete the healing process, but those decades old wounds will never heal as long as leaders in the black community, like Sharpton and Jackson, continually pick off the scab, throw dirt into the wound, and keep those wounds exposed to infection.

HI SBW999–#21. Good observation–The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a real minister. He wasn’t perfect–none of us are. But I think the Lord spoke through him and used him to remove an evil from our society.

His I HAVE A DREAM speech is very similar to many clear Bible messages that God sends us. He was the real deal–not a charlatan. And he had the vision of a better, fairer America.

Local media may be just yanking stuff from the AP. It’s a common practice; even Fox does it a lot on its website.
That’s still A LOT of people sitting on blankets.
It seems like, to a lot of people, people of any ethnic group other than Caucasian consist of diversity in and of themselves. I don’t know if it’s a fundamental misunderstanding of what the word diversity means or not. Has a historically black college ever fretted over its lack of diversity the way other colleges do? I’m really curious.
Locally in Seattle they tried to downplay the rally (again).
Well, they’ll just have to find out this November and November 2012, now won’t they?
This didn’t make the front page of the NYTimes today; at a minimum of 300,000 participants, I guess it didn’t rate the coverage given to the 250,000 participant “March on Washington” event 47 years before. How many moderate to conservative Americans have to be at an event before it matters? Or is it that 300,000 predominantly white Americans simply don’t count? Sadly, I think it’s the latter.
I really liked “REV” SHARPTON claiming this is “OUR” day to his crowd, at his rally… If my memory serves me right, the REVEREND MARTIN LUTHER KING was speaking for all AMERICANS, to all AMERICANS… Not just to BLACKS, and not just to SOUTHENERS, but everyone in this GREAT COUNTRY!!! I will always consider his “I HAVE A DREAM” speech to be part of my historic legacy, and I am a senior, and white!!!
While it certainly is frustrating that the liberal leftist media is so agenda driven their inaccurate reporting plays into Beck’s hands you know.
Charles Blow was mad as hell, but not “angry”. No, no. After calling Beck the “anti-King”, and saying, “Beck wants to swaddle his movement in the cloth of the civil rights movement, a cloth soaked in the blood and tears of the innocent and oppressed, a cloth his divisiveness and self-aggrandizing threatens to defile”, Blow went on to say:
With which we agree. John Avlon, the perfidious little twerp who writes for The Daily Beast ™, cannot understand Mr. Blow’s point:
Except that is a lie. Now, in Avlon’s case, it may be he really cannot understand that you can fight an adversary, and not hate them. Which is what Beck was saying. Which is the same thing Blow was saying.
Beck never said, “Let’s all join hands around the Collectivist bonfire of our freedoms in a big show of unity”. That would be surrender. We are divided as a people. We DO believe fundamentally DIFFERENT things about government, and they are not reconcilable. That was something King understood very well, and he divided America sharply. Beck was echoing King’s call to his friends to fight clean, so the fight does not hurt them spiritually.
See, Avlon just does not get it. You can HATE what the Collective DOES, while not hating people. You can FEAR its destruction of your nation, and you really, really SHOULD. And you can FIGHT people who oppose you, and that is not evil. It is necessary. Charles Blow understands that.
From my piece today.
I really enjoyed your post and it was right on the mark. Al Sharpton is a charlatan and he gets away with it because the left wants race baiting. They want to make everything the right does look hate-filled and ugly. Why they do is beyond my understanding.
Sharpton wants to keep black people enslaved and ignorant and the ones who follow him truly are that.
Ummmm, Doug, I tink you made one.
ROFL I “tink” I made one too!
What a wonderful moment for the USA. The contrast between liberal and conservative has never been better exposed. It has exposed the press, with the estimates and the spin. It has exposed the race baiting “civil rights” leaders such as Sharpton. It has exposed by the big government white house with the Education Secretary speaking at the Sharpton event (to an almost all black audience from DC who experienced the insensitivity of the White House to the charter schools they had that were working well for them).
But the pictures that say it all are of the trash. Liberals with the potty mouths and need to tell us all how to live, leave their trash and let somebody else pick it up. Conservatives, with family values, and a sense of responsibility clean up after themselves.
It reminds me of the trek I lead to Mt Haleakala Maui. I had one rule. If you pack it in, you pack it out. 13 people had a nice week long adventure, without a single required chore. Meanwhile the Sierra Club has the same trek a week later, and it cost 4 times per person what ours did. It required them to FLY in a Helicopter for cooking. And they had a duty roster of chores from dawn to dusk.
And who do you think left the biggest mess? And which people felt they had a spiritual event?
John:
I wholeheartedly agree with what you stated. MLK was a brave man, because he stood up in dangerous times, and it did finally cost him his life. He is a man I admire greatly despite his personal failings, which as you noted, we all have.
Tigerlady: As to why they do it, one could probably devote a long book to that, with numerous references to to the DSM manual. But in short they do it because its all a scoundrel can do when he/she has lost the argument. If we had a real “free press” in this country. liberalism would have gone the way of the dinosaurs long ago. As it is, lets hope that day is upon us starting this November.
Very good post Rags. ^5
Restoring Honor Rally – Total views: 669,838
Those 669,838 views were just those who watched live on Facebook/USTREAM, and does not include those who have watched it on C-SPAN live TV, nor those who watched it on C-SPAN’s web site.
Add in the 300,000 to 500,000+ who were there in person, and well over 1 Million people watched this event live.
In our household, we had 5 people watching the USTREAM feed, so if the average number of people watching the USTREAM feed was 3 people per view, then those 669,838 views probably means that over 2 Million people watched the USTREAM feed alone.
Since the C-SPAN video is still available on their web site, new people will continue to go there and watch it.
Millions have already been impacted, and millions more will be impacted as time goes on.
The SeeBS estimate of 87K is very strange. Normally it is rounded, about 100K, 150K, 300K, etc for large events. I don’t recall seeing such a specific number recently for other events of this size.

I’m sure they got Carbon Credits for that flight. Right? What did the want a gourmet meal in the woods? Morons.
I have battled the Sierra Club since 1975. I lead hikes and camping trips for my high school kids and hiked bare foot. They thought that made me a bad influence on the kids and wanted me fired. They are as a group a bunch of busy body elitists.
CBS, NBC, ABC, . . . I seem to remember these news wanna-be organizations. I don’t know what purpose they serve nowadays, does anybody? Are they still on the air?
Those that continue to support OBambi question, I have no idea why 90% of the Jewish voters voted for O’, I really have no idea why most of them continue their support. Liberals first, Jews second, would be my guess. Black supporters are easier to understand, because I know how proud and supportive I feel, myself, everytime we elect some old white guy.
Indeed you did.
http://dailycaller.com/2010/08/29/what-theyre-saying-about-the-828-rally/
And just WHO is fixated on race…???
After reading the AP articles today, they described Beck’s rally as a “predomonitely white crowd,” but nothing in Sharpton’s rally as a “predomonitely black crowd.” I saw more african americans (and many more other minorities for that matter) at Beck’s rally, than I saw white’s at Sharpton’s.
Of course the crowd in attendance was going to be mostly white. Given that 98% of blacks voted for bho and most still support him now, exactly WHO was going to show up at the 8/28 rally???? After all the race pimps got done demonizing the TEA party people, FOX viewers, 9/12 members and all other conservative leaning people, were blacks going to show up in huge numbers? And let’s not forget what percentage blacks are in the over all population. Or that blacks have to prove how black they are to other blacks by repeating the liberal talking points. But the mostly lily-white MSM crown still has to focus on diversity by genetic phenotype rather than content of character. They just can’t let go of their narrow thinking.
Yep, Denver Post, page 4, and the crowd estimates were toward end of article. Bumped off page 1 I’m sure, by a small-town basketball coach who lost his job because he screamed at the girls on his team.
As said someone already said, you can’t make this stuff up!
We cannot stop watching the left, we must stay on top of their lies so we understand their future moves.
CNN has lost all credibility.
True then.
And true again now.
What did you expect them to do, tear down the message of the rally? That would be corporate suicide for the MSM.
They need to talk about anything else. What they are saying to each other pritvately in the newsroom and on the conference calls was “Holy $@!+ did you see all of those people!?” This rally shook them to the core.
Let me fix that for you BOB. No offense intended, but we have to see beyond the obvious.

Restoring Honor
I must have missed the big walls Beck put up to keep minorities out of his rally. What? There weren’t any? Then perhaps the more interesting story for real journalists to pursue would be to ask minorities why they didn’t attend, rather than prattle on about Beck’s “mostly white” rally. Sadly, the smallest minority seems to be real journalists.
glockomatic,
I’m glad you said that. I’ve been thinking similar thoughts.
The the number of blacks at the Restoring Honor rally was exactly equal to those who chose to be there.
If the media thinks there should have been more blacks there…
…THEY’RE RIGHT!
The media should have gone to “Reverend” Sharpton’s “mostly black” rally and asked them why didn’t they attend the Restoring Honor rally?
What was it about the Restoring Honor rally that they oppose?
Honor?
Faith in God?
If the press wants to focus on the people’s skin color, then ask which of the two rallies looked closest to the demographics of America?
Which rally drew more Americans, by two orders of magnitude?
Which rally also drew hundreds of thousands of viewers over the Internet?
I did read one news story identifying Sharpton’s crowd as mostly black. But really, only the idiot msm would start describing crowds by the racial make- up. Typical race baiting lib politics. These people are disgusting as they are arrogant.
One word “McCain”
You had your chance. You couldn’t even rally enough conservative votes to knock him out in the primary.
Only an idiot or a leftist would now want the Democrat to topple McCain, thereby leaving the power of the Senate and all of its committee chairmanships in the hands of hard leftwing Democrats like Harry Reid and Barbara Boxer and Dick Durbin.
sbw999 said: I did read one news story identifying Sharpton’s crowd as mostly black. But really, only the idiot msm would start describing crowds by the racial make- up. Typical race baiting lib politics. These people are disgusting as they are arrogant.
It is the only card they have left to play and it is the joker.
“You couldn’t even rally enough conservative votes to knock him out in the primary.”
More simpleton thinking on display from Roland. No surprise there.
dang it…That’s a great picture of a beautiful little American girl with the American Flag!!
The answer to the question of where all these right reverend race hustlers got their degrees is of course “The silky Jones School of how to be a tax abated Pimp”. This fine internationally acclaimed school is located just above “The Silky Jones School of how to be a non tax payin Ho”.
And this morning the paper already had an AP article on Beck attacking Obama’s religion, with his off hand remark about Wright’s (I refuse to call him reverand) black separation church. Of course the article did not have a word about what a black separation church actually believes or why Beck would question if it is christian.
You are so perceptive, jsm, with your nuanced thinking and all. Me, I’m just one of those ‘uneducated’ bitter clingers who calls ‘em as I sees ‘em.
So are you admitting you voted for that Great Conservative, John McCain, in the primary? Or are you going to continue to be all nuanced and pretend all of your attacks on JD were because you truly loved him and just wanted him to be better?

Some of ‘em are beginning to get it
guspapa, thanks for the link to that piece…
No, New York Times Op-Ed Columnist Ross Douthat didn’t underestimate Glenn Beck, he underestimated God.
The Restoring Honor Rally was not about Glenn Beck. It was about the role of Divine Providence in the past, present, and future of this country.
I was at both the 9/12 and 8/28 rallies. The 9/12 rally, when all was said and analyzed produced about 1 million people give or take 300,000. The 8/28 rally was not as large, but counting was difficult because so many people got under trees to escape the blazing hot sun. My estimate for the 8/28 rally was about 500,000 give or take 100,000.
The photos don’t completely show the numbers because of tree cover and the fact that rally attendees actually sat far away from the Lincoln Memorial, some in front of the Washington Monument.
My favorite story was a woman and he son who flew red-eye from California just to attend. She was flying home again that evening. Her husband had been at the 9/12 rally the prior year.
My biggest negative was no signs. I thought that Beck should have encouraged signs of faith, hope and charity.
What I find interesting is Mark Levin didn’t comment on the rally and Hannity didn’t mention it on his TV show. Savage did talk about it. I’m guessing Levin and Hannity don’t like Beck all that much. Am I wrong?
not wrong blizzard. Hannity is very jealous I’m thinking. Noticed how he never mentioned it leading up to it. Competition for his Freedom Concert I guess, as well as Glenn’s cutting edge news about Van Jones, Andy Stern, etc. Hannity is becoming an also-ran and knows it. But Glenn says that Rush and Sean have their place and he has his. He doesn’t disparage them or refrain from mentioning their names. Rush has occasionally mentioned Glenn, but has Sean? No! Petty!
