Summer of corruption: Another CBC Democrat in trouble

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 29, 2010 08:51 AM

Cronyism of color strikes again (previous cases here). Former Congressional Black Caucus chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson is in hot water over CBC Foundation scholarship favoritism for her family and staff’s family in clear, direct violation of the foundation’s eligibility rules.

The Dallas Morning News reports:

Longtime Dallas congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson has awarded thousands of dollars in college scholarships to four relatives and a top aide’s two children since 2005, using foundation funds set aside for black lawmakers’ causes.
Eddie Bernice Johnson

The recipients were ineligible under anti-nepotism rules of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, which provided the money. And all of the awards violated a foundation requirement that scholarship winners live or study in a caucus member’s district.

…Scholarships have gone to two of the congresswoman’s grandsons, Kirk and David Johnson; to two of her great-nephews, Gregory and Preston Moore; and to [staff member Rod] Givens’ son and daughter. Givens did not respond to requests for comment, and none of the scholarship recipients could be reached.

Johnson denies that she “personally benefited” from the scheme and says that she “unknowingly” violated the clear eligibility rules.

And if you don’t agree, then 3, 2, 1…RAAAAACIST!

Are you sure? Affirmative action across the board seems to have nothing to do with “fair” or “equitable” – It’s entitlement/payback for past racial wrongs. In the present political parallel universe, she could slide on this.

    You’re traveling through another dimention…

I’m sorry but my common sense tells me that if I have any sway over where the money goes I need to leave family and friends out of it.

Then sit back and let the taxpayers pay millions for the investigation. Sounds like a great way to get those reparations.

Anyone who doesn’t realize they are commiting a crime, who doesn’t realize they are corrupt to the core, must be really stupid. These are the people who were eleted to serve us? Wow, do we need to clean house!!! Fire their arses and send them packing.

There is another factor – the food fight card. Rangel’s “Give it your best shot” is a rather thinly veiled threat. Are you sure you want to play the dirty laundry game? Bring it! Maxine Waters is on the same track.

Seeems Congressional ethics investigation is like deciding which turd in the cesspool stinks the most. Tough call.

    There’s the problem right there!

Members (of the CBC) shouldn’t use words and terms that are confusing to some of their members, assuming that everyone knows what those precise words mean.

    Words like;

perjury“- Members shouldn’t lie, except when they do so to protect their own skin.

bribery“- Members are reminded that taking money for favors is not wise, unless said money can be hidden, and strong denials can be uttered with a straight face.

rules“- Members should be reminded that rules shall not be violated, unless done so quietly, and in the dark.

And most of all, members need to be reminded, that this is Washington, and as such, there is NO violation of law, unless it can be proven! Appearances can be spun, and charges of “racism” leveled at any who dare pry!

First of all the nature of “nepotism” is to benefit family and other insiders, not the person violating the rules, unless she thinks that if she didn’t take a kickback, she did nothing wrong. So she is either mind- numbingly stupid in saying that, or…well nevermind.

Second, ignorance of the rules/law is not usually (well actually never) an excuse for breaking the rules. Though it takes somebody monumentally stupid to not know that awarding scholarships to your relatives…well nevermind.

Yeah, just because she didn’t bother to find out what the rules are doesn’t mean she’s unqualified to write the rules the rest of us have to live under. Of course, she doesn’t have to live under those rules, so it’s no wonder it was such a shock to find out there actually were rules she had to follow.

If we can’t trust Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson to manage a simple scholarship program honestly, we certainly shouldn’t trust her with our health care system or our national security!

We only have 64 days until the November election and early voting will start in most places in October.
