Wyden: For imposing the Obamacare individual health mandate before he was against it

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 1, 2010 03:39 PM

Far Left Democrat Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon championed a federal individual health care mandate, wrote it into his own legislation, and voted it into law.

Now, he’s not so sure he wants to impose it on his own constituents — and he’s searching for an exemption for his state.

From HuffPo via Brian Faughnan at Liberty Central:

One of the most innovative voices in the health care debate, Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), is accelerating the process of exempting his state from some of the national reforms passed under President Barack Obama.

The Oregon Democrat is seeking to take advantage of a provision he helped write into the legislation that allows states to set up their own health care systems as long as they meet minimal requirements established by the Department of Health and Human Services. In a letter to the state’s Health Authority office, Wyden announced that he will introduce legislation to accelerate the start date for state waivers from 2017 to 2014, if not earlier for Oregon specifically.

In addition, he strongly suggested that the state should use the provision to exempt Oregon from the individual mandate, which would penalize those individuals who refuse to purchase insurance coverage. The mandate was a feature of Wyden’s own health care bill but has proved to be remarkably unpopular among voters.

As the Saturday Night Live Church Lady used to say: How conveeeeenient!

As an unfortunate resident of the state of Oregon, I can sadly attest to the fact that Ron Wyden has always been a leftist weasel.

But with a moribund Republican Party here, he’ll just go on being a leftist weasel.

Lot of us Oregonians don’t even believe Whyden lives in Oregon anymore. He married a wealthy woman a few years back with proprerty in N.Y. Whyden owns, what he claims is his residence a 1000 sq, ft condo in Oregon. Now where would you live if you had choice, a 1000 sq. ft. condo or a plush apartment in NYC?

Off the subject, did I mention here in Beaverton,Oregon the city is sponsoring a celebration of Mexico’s independence from Spain on September 16, 2010 yet they have never sponsored a celebration of American Independence?

Wyden is also miserable on the illegal immigration (+drugs, gangs, and related violence issues). He is another transplant from the east coast — albeit, some 25 years ago or so.

A press release from OFIR (Oregonians for Immigration Reform) from this morning:

    OFIR members and supporters:

We have reported on almost a weekly basis the growing trend of Mexican drug cartels to use our national forests as marijuana plantations. This all comes as news to our esteemed U.S. Senator Ron Wyden. Senator Wyden is quoted in the Baker City Herald, as saying, (see article below), “The federal government doesn’t realize what is going on with these sophisticated foreign gangs and criminal organizations.” This from a Senator who has voted for every amnesty and in opposition to securing our borders.

How is it that average citizens know about the problems of out of control illegal immigration but our U.S. Senator and his ruling oligarchy in Washington DC are unaware?

Wyden said he will work with DOD officials to raise awareness and to keep funding for National Guard helicopters used to locate pot grows on federal lands and is quoted again as saying, “The environmentalists ought to be with us every step of the way, because these pot grows are devastating to the resources.” One would think so.

We need to replace the out of touch elitists in the U.S. Senate starting with Ron Wyden. OFIR PAC endorses Jim Huffman.

    For reference: Huffman’s website

Heard Lars Larson talk about this. There are a few more of us conservatives here in Central Oregon. Even our paper, the Bend Bulletin supports the right. Wyden is obviously a carpet bagger and has to go. Not likely, unless we see an amazingly Republican landslide.

I was talking with a friend who WAS a Democrat. He rarely ever voted in midterms. Not this time. He, his wife and daughter are all voting in November and for All Republicans. He is seeing just what Progressivism means.
