Sigh: DHS posts signs to deter illegal aliens
In Invasion, published eight years ago, I pointed out that the Bush administration’s lame immigration enforcement measures included orange rubber cones and useless “No Entry” signs posted at the border.
Well, file this under “The more things change.” The Washington Times reports that the Obama administration is posting new signs at the border warning travelers and illegal aliens about violent smugglers.
The federal government has posted signs along a major interstate highway in Arizona, more than 100 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, warning travelers the area is unsafe because of drug and alien smugglers, and a local sheriff says Mexican drug cartels now control some parts of the state.
The signs were posted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend, a major east-west corridor linking Tucson and Phoenix with San Diego.
They warn travelers that they are entering an “active drug and human smuggling area” and they may encounter “armed criminals and smuggling vehicles traveling at high rates of speed.” Beginning less than 50 miles south of Phoenix, the signs encourage travelers to “use public lands north of Interstate 8″ and to call 911 if they “see suspicious activity.”
As Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer noted earlier this summer, the signs are empty gestures without real physical deterrents to back them up:
And why bother calling 911 when you know DHS/ICE is backing off deportations?
Don’t let the White House spin on illegal alien statistics distract you. The bipartisan open-borders end game is amnesty. Always has been. Always will be.

If the administration would take meaningful steps to secure our border, it wouldn’t need to put up signs in Arizona warning citizens that travel 100 miles from the border is unsafe (“Signs in Arizona warn of smuggler dangers”).
Likewise, the Department of Homeland Security should not spend its time writing memos about how to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants or dismiss thousands of deportation cases.
As Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Management, Investigations and Oversight, that is why I’m asking for hearings and answers from DHS on what it’s doing to protect the border.
The administration continues to take actions that seem counterproductive to border security, and we need to know why that is the case. We need to make sure DHS is complying with, and enforcing, our nation’s immigration laws.

But Team Obama has already sent down a whole 30 Nat’l Guard troops — or as they’re calling it, “The Surge.”
Maybe if signs are posted in european, middle eastern, and far eastern languages we could at least get past the racist thing on illegal aliens.

I keep saying this but the best way to turn the tide is to confront the open-borders politicians by asking them how much money they are taking from the drug cartels whether directly or through the “too big to fail” money-laundering “banksters”.
Yes, it is impolite.
At places like FT Hood and Ft Bliss they have “Tank Crossing” signs and my favorite “Caution! Artillery may be fired over this road!” These signs get the attention. Maybe we should turn the border region into a military post and have live fire being conducted just as we do at the current posts such as Bliss, Hood, Sill, Knox, etc.
Actually, it is the dream of every liberal/socialist in this country to have those signs, back to back, one facing north and the other facing south, in the middle of our country.
So authorizing the police to check papers if they note suspicious activity is racial profiling, but telling citizens they are in danger of encountering violent criminals and illegal immigrants (who would presumably be of hispanic descent) and asking them to report suspicious activity (that probably won’t be acted on anyway) is okay?

They might as well put up a yellow sign depicting a “Sombrero” Xing, for all the good it will do.
The sign is obviously to deter Americans and legitimate tourists. It implies that beyond the sign lies lawless territory and anyone travelling there does so at their own risk, because the US government cannot or will not defend it.
Once again, this is criminal malfeasence that needs to be prosecuted until politicians and bureaucrats finally get the message: Follow the law, do your jobs, avoid collaboration, or you will lose your job and do serious jail time.
OT… but the irony is remarkable.
Obama wants illegal aliens to have unrestricted access to America, but he won’t allow -legal- firearms to be sent here from our allies… for a good cause.

Many years ago at the Dona Anna Range of Ft Ignorance (Ignorance is bliss, right?), they would fly helicopters over the impact area every morning before any artillery rounds were fired. They were checking for trespassers that entered during the night. We were told that some illegals had tried to cross the impact area and were taken out by an 8″ battery. A bullet in the air has no friends.
What? No Spanish, the most common language spoken in the SW?
And if Obama is just going to forsake….. or let’s just call it what it is…..surrender… that portion of American territory to Mexican criminals, then he might as well turn the area into a nuclear waste dump. Forget Yucca Mountain. Just toss the waste on the ground along the border. He’s already ceded our land there anyway.

That’s because only about a 1/4 of those crossing the border speak, read, and write in Spanish. So many are coming from isolated native villages, the rest from Central and South America.
I want to kick the rump of anyone hiring an illegal. Those guilty of hiring them have doomed their own children to living in a 3rd world country. A sister in law in CA that teaches has children being enrolled that have never learned to flush a toilet in public bathrooms, much less wash their hands after.
WaterBoyz – we used to see the Border Patrol parked in the meridian of I-5 on the Grapevine – 100 miles north of Los Angeles. You’d be surprised how many they caught. Plus, south of San Diego the signs on freeways showing women and children running – that was to tell you that at any time an illegal might run across the road and if you weren’t carefull you’d hit them.
I’ve said before, we have over 100,000 military men and women and many with families camped out and spending their paychecks in Europe and Asia and have been for over 50 years. Let’s bring them home and camp them along our vulnerable borders, not just latinos from Mexico, but chinese from Vancouver, and middle easterners from Toronto. We are being invaded, and someone better start doing something about it before our nation is bankrupted and lost.
Shouldn’t there be signs under those signs saying that the signs are part of Obama’s economic recovery efforts?

The condition of the 850,000 M1 rifles and M1 .30 carbines is questionable. However, they are sorely needed by the unarmed victims of the drug lords and crooked police / military in Mexico. And they are still effective weapons.

One late summer afternoon at White Sands Missile Range ten years ago 6 tired, badly sunburned, thirsty, hungry illegal aliens (not “undocumented immigrants”) stumbled out of the desert into our Patriot Launch site–40 miles Northeast of El Paso. We gave them our dinner sandwiches, water, bought them some Cokes from the vending machine, and called the M.P.’s. A helicopter was sent to try to find the missing guy–they never found him.

There was an article in todays paper that stated that fewer people have been entering the southern border since 2007. However the same number seems to arrive from Mexico.
In trying to explain this the article did all but explain the obvious fact. The difference is with the people passing through Mexico (not jobs or the recession). No doubt they are afraid to pass through that country or are stopped at Mexico’s Southern Border. Obama though tries to take credit, which tells you something else is afoot.
And guess who’s going to be paying for it? The Koreans will get their money one way or the other, and Americans will pay it, they just won’t get anything for it. (As with most of Obama’s policies.)
At least there’s one thing our Democrat-run federal government is proficient at: Putting up signs.

I suggest Governor Brewer build a replica of the White House just outside Gila Bend, and invite the president and his family down for a vacation. To show how secure the border is, he should leave his Secret Service security detail in DC.
I would like to see signs in Spanish all along these smuggling routes, warning those who tresspass into the United States that their incursion will be met with deadly force, if anyone in their group is armed.
If deadly force is authorized against civilian trespassers who violate secret U.S. military bases in Nevada and elsewhere, why can’t the same rules apply here?

I honestly see nothing wrong with signs posted in Spanish and English with a universally understood graphic that conveys the message of “Private Property of the Citizens of America, Do Not Enter, Trespassers will be shot”.
Back up the message by giving our Border Enforcement the authority to use deadly force and relocating some of our Armed Forces from international locations to our border. Pay for this whole deal by using the money we throw away at the U.N.
See. This helps stimulate the economy by saving jobs, reducing welfare and hospital costs, adds more money into the economy because American Citizens do not send it to Mexico and pays the salaries of the Armed Forces by recovering wasted money from the U.N. and stops funding terrorists overseas, so fewer troops are needed there.

I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned this yet. But your story about the South Korean rifles and Obama wanting to destroy these historic guns reminded me of another destruction of history. Remember the ancient Budda carved out of rock in the ME? Remember how the taliban blew it up? Hmmmm….same kind of radical idiology in both cases, don’t you think? Obama is a truly frightening and evil entity. Destroying history is what he does best.

That is the intended purpose of those signs. They’re not a warning to illegals; they’re a travel advisory to Americans. Our fearless leaders are basically ceding the South West back to Mexico.
To have any chance of deterring illegals from crossing the border, they would need to put up signs that read:
“Abandon hope of finding work, all ye who enter Obamaland.”
And if they wanted to claim credit for the signs in a truthful manner, they would put the following text on the American side of each sign:
“These signs are brought to you by the Obama stimulus plan made possible by the generous donations of future taxpayers of America.”
The reason the signs don’t work is the vast majority of illegal border crossers are illiterate in both English AND Spanish. And apparently they also can’t or wont read maps if they think Denver is 10 miles from the TX border!
