Obama Doesn’t Regret Calling it ‘Recovery Summer’ — And Why Should He?
**Written by Doug Powers
This morning, President Obama was asked if he regrets his administration branding the past three months of economic misery as “Recovery Summer.”
His answer: “I don’t…”
I can’t blame him, really. Who couldn’t be fully recovered after this kind of a summer:

I feel more rested & recovered just looking at the pictures.
When they dubbed it “Recovery Summer,” nobody thought they were talking about us, did they?
Update: By way of HotAir, here’s an actual Time headline: What’s good about rising unemployment
Note the distinct lack of a question mark at the end.
Update II: Robert Reich didn’t get the memo that Recovery Summer was a huge success.

Being Obama means never having to say you’re sorry. Or, you’re wrong, you’re misguided, your approval ratings are in the toilet – but hey, it’s great to live in an alternate universe.
Think how bad it would have been if it wasn’t called recovery summer. Unemployment might have gone as high as 9.7%.
Maybe we can get him to start calling this November the Recovery Autumn.
How clueless does one have to be to simply fiddle whilst Rome burns–even when he sees himself on video doing so?
It seems this bho and family are headed to Camp David for the holiday week-end. He is just plum wore out from having to jet all over the place, having to meet with Bibi, etc, having to get on the tube several times a day since he got back from his last vacation!
L
I bet unemployment for October, and probably September, takes a BIG drop!!
I look to 2012 as the year this nation begins to recover, after driving this bozo out of office.
When you’re the Naked Emperor, you can’t admit to any part of your “wardrobe” not being there — because once you do, the floodgates open and before you know it everyone along the whole parade route is laughing at you.
Hope-a-Dope and his handlers know this, which is why they’ll never give an inch to reality.
Hope-a-Dope reminds me of a Bill Cosby comedy routine from many years ago, “To Russell, my brother, whom I slept with.” He recounts how he and his brother were jumping on the bed in their room until it broke, at which time their father came in and demanded to know what happened:
Bill Cosby: “A man came in through the window, dad, and jumped on the bed until it broke, then he went back out the window!”
Father: “Do you know what happens to little boys who lie, son?”
Bill: “No, dad.”
Father: “They go straight down, and they burn. Your skin is burning, your hair is burning, your eyes are burning –”
Bill: “Stop it, dad!”
Father: “Do you want to burn?”
Bill: “No, dad!”
Father: “Then tell the truth!”
Bill: “THE MAN CAME IN HERE, DAD!!”
That’s Hope-a-Dope, in a nutshell.
It was a typo. It was supposed to be “Redistribution Summer”.
bho admitting that he’s wrong……. hell has a better chance of freezing over. He looks at admitting mistakes as a sign of weakness and it would crack into his inner insecurities. He hasn’t grown up and he’s not man enough to change now. It is more important to remain cool and aloof.
The Recovery Election.
I like it!
Re pic of Obowmao eating an ice cream cone: I’m surprised he didn’t plant it in the middle of his forhead and look like a unicorn.
One needs to understand where the man is coming from. He doesn’t mean the “recovery” of the American economy, he’s talking about his personal recovery from all the hard work, and travel he’s undertaken for the American people. Appearing to be casual, confident, and unflummoxed is tenious work! Ask any Hollywood actor…they’ll tell you how hard it is to create, and maintain a facade.
That’s why he chose Hope and Change for his campaign. Socialists always use open-ended words that can have multiple meanings. It’s not his fault if the proles think Hope and Change means there will be new hope that Obama will bring change to the nation.
This is too much off topic, as we are discussing Obama’s “wordsmithing” about his job. Read this post on John Lott’s blog. It’s about former Car Czar Rattner talking about his days with Obama. My favorite quote:
Well Mr. Rattner, we’re feeling your pain every day.
This isn’t too much off topic…
I blame my keyboard.
And Christina Romer is saying they had it wrong, also. The “Stimulus” didn’t work.
Can we finally drive a stake through the heart of Keynesianism? The Great Depression lasted 7 years longer than it needed to because of Roosevelt and the goof-balls in his ‘brain trust’.
We’d be pulling out of this recession by now if the government would allow the market to correct itself.
Companies are sitting on trillion$ of case reserves and refraining from hiring because of the uncertainty caused by Federal meddling.
case = cash
Doh!
Obama is not wrong. All his labor friends he gave Govt jobs too are having a great summer. All his friends from the Hood that he gave jobs too are having a great summer.Hotels and resorts through out the world where he and Michelle and company have stayed , are having a great summer.
It just depends on who and what your are, whether or not your doing fine.
Some of us believe that the government is deliberately preventing the recession from correcting itself. Meanwhile, Oduhma is having the time of his life…on our dime.
I’m all for Congress voting itself a pay freeze until unemployment gets down to 2006 levels.
In fact, I’d like their pay tied to the budget:
Deficit? No raise.
Balanced budget? Small raise.
Budget surplus? Big raise.
Big deficit? Pay cut.
Hell why should Sock Puppet regret anything – all he has to do is blame Bush for his failures and walk away pleased with himself, Great leader don’t you know.

RECOVERY FALL starts on November 2, 2010. As America starts to recover from Comrade Obama (PBUH) and his socialist / marxist ilk.

November: The Recovery Begins
Somebody needs to make one or both of those a bumper sticker…STAT…!!!!
It kills me when I read articles that say things like “… extending the Bush Tax Cuts would cost $100 billion over the next 3 years…”, or some such garbage.
As if the cuts won’t have any effect on growth and, therefore, revenue. Tax cuts don’t exist in a vacuum!
Maybe we learn from our friends (in this case Vaclav Havel:
I take exception only to his use of the term “policies”, which is think is mere semantics.
Markets work. So well, in fact, it seems like magic to those who don’t understand them.
AND the ONLY way you can think a tax cut is a “cost” to government is if you assume…as does the Collective…the money you produce belongs to government.
The Collective ALSO cannot admit that lower taxes produce HIGHER revenue.
I am amazed that the pundits keep talking about one reason or another for the recession and the recovery. It is sooo obvious to me, a simpleton, that the economy started going in the crapper when the Democrats took over the Senate and House and then the topper was Obama polling to win the election. Of course anyone with any sense started getting bearish. Now the conservatives are looking like they may take one or both houses. I suspect the economy will start improving. Duh!
Golfing, bicycling, eating lobster, golfing, swimming, more golfing, more lobster,
geese,
no wonder this guy doesn’t regret anything.
Wow! Our stinker of a president lives in some kind of upside down Orwellian world or something. Or maybe something from one of Lewis Carrol’s books.
November 2012 won’t get here fast enough for me.
May I add waffling and shrimping as well. Perhaps some dance contests oh wait, those are coming.
barry’s a putz
I want these people out of power so bad I can taste it. Everything I hear makes me more angry. Just heard them discussing foreigners being offered a lower price for the General Motors IPO than will be offered to Americans. Am I crazy or is this tyranny. If this is true we should drive all General Motors cars into the Boston Harbor.
From the Time article:
“So is this jobs report the latest sign that we are headed for a double dip? Probably not. Actually it’s the opposite. Despite what it looks like, today’s jobs numbers are good news for the economy.”
Yes yes yes of course why didnt I see that??
I guess 9-11 was good for the country because it brought us together for awhile at least, and made us see the need for more outreach to Muslims around the globe.
Abortion on demand is good for the Country because it keeps intact thousands of jobs at abortion clinics, as well as keeping down the population of parasitic humans.
The federal govt not enforcing immigration law is good for us since it forces us have a badly needed national conversation on racism in America.
The stimulus and bailout programs are great for the Country because without them, we would have lost ten times as many jobs as we did.
Having Obama and his socialist cronies running the Country is good for America as it exposes us to different governmental philosophies, not just that old stale and boring democracy and self-reliance stuff.
Having a media that is a propaganda arm for a political party is very good for America since it counterbalances the evil right wing bias of Fox News Channel, the conservative blogoshere and talk radio. And who needs a free press anyway??? N Korea, Iran and China seem to be fine without one.
Who knew????
Speaking of “recovery,” here’s what Reagan had to say on the topic:
Just substitute “Hope-a-Dope” for Jimmy Carter, and it’s as fresh and relevant today as it was 30 years ago.

Errah, once Recovery Autumn gets here the eccomedy will get all better . . .
Errah
Errah those green jobs obama promised were for a tee time starter, a greenskeeper and the gal with the drink cart.
As was noted on another thread earlier this week, a number of our Congresscritters are very wealthy individuals. Somehow I don’t think that a pay freeze would impact the Kerrys, Pelosis, and Boxers in the Congress.
I don’t begrudge the salaries that our Congresscritters get, and at times I feel that the responsibilities could justify higher salaries. HOWEVER, I would insist that term limits be a requirement to justify higher salaries. In addition, Congress would have to remove their exemption from the Social Security program.
Probably because any American with half a brain, won’t be buying any of the stock. Not after the way they did Chrysler’s stock holders.
After an entire Obama-proclaimed and celebrated “Recovery Summer” and the left still complains about a single, unofficial one-off “Mission Accomplished” sign?
Come on folks. The unemployment would have been 15.9% if Obama had not been elected. There would have been over 6 million jobs lost. Bush spent 8 years driving us into the ground. Its not going to be fixed in 2 years. It will take Obama a second term.
Thank goodness we have Obama and his most excellent policies helping us recover so its not as bad as it would have been.
Wait, unemployment would have been 18%. I am getting my facts all mixed up. Go ahead and make it 20%. Since I am making it up anyway, why not go all the way? Someone will believe it and the MSM will help me pull the wool over.
It takes a lot of time to see all the 57 states during the summertime. I believe he still have one left to go.
Recovery Autumn, followed by Recovery Election.
Obama is the center of his own universe. That’s why when he speaks of a “Recovery Summer”, he’s speaking about his own recovery after wearing himself out going against the will of the majority to get Obamacare passed. It’s all about him.
Grade A small summer of recovery
So according to the dip sticks at Time an increase in the unemployment rate is good. If this is so why did we need the stimulus since according to BO the rate would have been even higher than it is without it. We need to defeat them in November then throw them in the hole they dug and cover it over.
I think I understand Obama’s thinking. Once the republicans take a huge part of Congress, the economy will tank seriously. Gridlock will lock the Congress and the republicans will be blamed when this recession is magnified.
Gridlock would be good for the economy.
Obama is being taken out of context here.
Obama is talking about his own as well as Michelle’s recovery.
The Obamas are having the greatest summer of recovery from back to back vacations.
I wonder if Obama will regret this?
Quote on new Oval Office rug:
“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
Martin Luther King
Sorry. MLK never said that. It was Revolutionary War hero Theodore Parker.
What the heck. They don’t bother reading the bills they pass or state bills they sue over, why should they fact check a rug?
Correction, MLK did cite that quote in a speech.
As Ronald Reagan famously said: “facts are stubborn things”. No wait! That was John Adams!
Oh no! It wasn’t John Adams either! He stole it from Tobias Smollett who stole it from Alain-Rene LeSage!
That does it. Let’s just stick to fabric, colors, shapes and textures when it comes to selecting rugs.
And about that art work Obama got in trouble for last year…
Yoda: “Oh, you WILL… You WILL….!!!!
obama. What a jerk.
21st Century, meet Humpty Dumpty.
Okay. Let’s lighten up a bit.
I know Doug gets a lot of grief around here for his Detroit roots (can he be more proud of Detroit?) but how many people know that Detroit is the home of the rebirth of garage bands?
When I was growing up, garage bands ruled. But they typically consisted of four people: lead guitar, bass, rhythm guitar and drums. Well Detroit has the “White Stripes” that get the job done with only two musicians.
Here is the University of Michigan cheerleaders performing a routine to the White Stripes “My Doorbell”. There is still hope for Detroit.
A [half] black Jimmah Carter! Good Grief!
This is the result of what happens when a community organizer fills positions based upon phenotypes and progressive beliefs and not skills, knowledge or track records. It doesn’t do any good to be perceived as being brilliant and then have no ability to use that brilliance (if it ever really existed) to achieve something worthwhile. The “recovery summer” was created by people stuck in their heads only to discover that that their heads were stuck up their butts. Everything in theory works until disproved by reality.
Obama’s Approval Index was -23 as of yesterday. Is that his
lowestbest ever?Okay…back here in the real world where you and I live, my neighbor with two small children lost his job, the guy down the street is still working two part-time jobs without benefits, and the hairdresser down at the mall is closing her salon due to the so-called recovery. A pox on this worthless usurper to the Presidency and all his house!
