Obama Doesn’t Regret Calling it ‘Recovery Summer’ — And Why Should He?

By Doug Powers  •  September 3, 2010 11:44 AM

**Written by Doug Powers

This morning, President Obama was asked if he regrets his administration branding the past three months of economic misery as “Recovery Summer.”

His answer: “I don’t…”

I can’t blame him, really. Who couldn’t be fully recovered after this kind of a summer:

null

I feel more rested & recovered just looking at the pictures.

When they dubbed it “Recovery Summer,” nobody thought they were talking about us, did they?

Update: By way of HotAir, here’s an actual Time headline: What’s good about rising unemployment

Note the distinct lack of a question mark at the end.

Update II: Robert Reich didn’t get the memo that Recovery Summer was a huge success.

When you’re the Naked Emperor, you can’t admit to any part of your “wardrobe” not being there — because once you do, the floodgates open and before you know it everyone along the whole parade route is laughing at you.

Hope-a-Dope and his handlers know this, which is why they’ll never give an inch to reality.

Hope-a-Dope reminds me of a Bill Cosby comedy routine from many years ago, “To Russell, my brother, whom I slept with.” He recounts how he and his brother were jumping on the bed in their room until it broke, at which time their father came in and demanded to know what happened:

Bill Cosby: “A man came in through the window, dad, and jumped on the bed until it broke, then he went back out the window!”

Father: “Do you know what happens to little boys who lie, son?”

    Bill: “No, dad.”

Father: “They go straight down, and they burn. Your skin is burning, your hair is burning, your eyes are burning –”

    Bill: “Stop it, dad!”

Father: “Do you want to burn?”

    Bill: “No, dad!”

    Father: “Then tell the truth!”

Bill: “THE MAN CAME IN HERE, DAD!!”

    That’s Hope-a-Dope, in a nutshell.

One needs to understand where the man is coming from. He doesn’t mean the “recovery” of the American economy, he’s talking about his personal recovery from all the hard work, and travel he’s undertaken for the American people. Appearing to be casual, confident, and unflummoxed is tenious work! Ask any Hollywood actor…they’ll tell you how hard it is to create, and maintain a facade.

That’s why he chose Hope and Change for his campaign. Socialists always use open-ended words that can have multiple meanings. It’s not his fault if the proles think Hope and Change means there will be new hope that Obama will bring change to the nation.

This is too much off topic, as we are discussing Obama’s “wordsmithing” about his job. Read this post on John Lott’s blog. It’s about former Car Czar Rattner talking about his days with Obama. My favorite quote:

“Suddenly I felt that I was indeed in the presence of a community organizer…”

The clever ones – themselves – would run everything. That’s the analogy. The key to prosperity is to let things run themselves. We’ll liberalize everything, let everyone look after himself, let business, not the state, run the economy. The state should have no views, no policies of its own. Just open it all up, step back, let it go and you’ll see how well everything will work if we just leave things alone.

I take exception only to his use of the term “policies”, which is think is mere semantics.

Markets work. So well, in fact, it seems like magic to those who don’t understand them.

AND the ONLY way you can think a tax cut is a “cost” to government is if you assume…as does the Collective…the money you produce belongs to government.

The Collective ALSO cannot admit that lower taxes produce HIGHER revenue.

Yes yes yes of course why didnt I see that??

I guess 9-11 was good for the country because it brought us together for awhile at least, and made us see the need for more outreach to Muslims around the globe.

Abortion on demand is good for the Country because it keeps intact thousands of jobs at abortion clinics, as well as keeping down the population of parasitic humans.

The federal govt not enforcing immigration law is good for us since it forces us have a badly needed national conversation on racism in America.

The stimulus and bailout programs are great for the Country because without them, we would have lost ten times as many jobs as we did.

Having Obama and his socialist cronies running the Country is good for America as it exposes us to different governmental philosophies, not just that old stale and boring democracy and self-reliance stuff.

Having a media that is a propaganda arm for a political party is very good for America since it counterbalances the evil right wing bias of Fox News Channel, the conservative blogoshere and talk radio. And who needs a free press anyway??? N Korea, Iran and China seem to be fine without one.

I don’t begrudge the salaries that our Congresscritters get, and at times I feel that the responsibilities could justify higher salaries. HOWEVER, I would insist that term limits be a requirement to justify higher salaries. In addition, Congress would have to remove their exemption from the Social Security program.
