9/11 remembrance: Set your alarms and steel your resolve

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 11, 2010 01:29 AM

At 8:46am this morning, nine years ago, murderous jihadists crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

At 9:03am this morning, nine years ago, murderous jihadists crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

At 9:37am this morning, nine years ago, murderous jihadists crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon.

At 10:15am this morning, nine years ago, the official notification of the downing of United Airlines Flight 93 into a field at Shanksville, Pa. by murderous jihadists was received by the feds.

This is a day to honor the 2,977 innocent men, women, and children slaughtered by evil Islamic jihadists — and to resolve that “Never again” remains America’s operational stance, not an empty slogan.

Let nothing overshadow their memories today.

Remember: “Let’s roll!”

Remember: The heroes.

Remember: The angels on loan from God.

Remember: The 9/11 babies.

Remember: Falling Man.

Remember: Barbara Olson.

Remember: Father Mychal Judge.

911father.jpg

Remember: Rick Rescorla.

Remember John O’Neill.

Remember: Kevin Cosgrove.

Remembrance is worthless without resolve.

Resolve is useless without action.

Start with a renewed pledge:

Sadly, this seems a distant bad memory to some in this country.

For me, it is the “I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing” moment.

I knew no one in the Towers, the Pentagon or on Flight 93.

But, I didn’t have to know anyone to know that this was an act of war.

I remember the feelings of that morning as if they were just yesterday.

And, now nine years later, I am so angry.

Angry that after nine years and thousands of lives sacrificed on the battlefield in this war, some people in this country think the fight is not worth it.

In my mind that means that this country is not worth it.

    To them I say DLTDHYWTGLSY.

Well said, exactly how I feel. I was watching the retrospective on Fox news last night and all those feelings of horror felt that day came rushing back. I cannot imagine having to watch a mosque being built there, especially as the projected opening is for 9/11/11. There is no way this should happen.

I might add that my feelings of rage were also against those, such as Rosie O’Donnell, who have speculated that these sickening acts of terror could be an inside job. These people deserve nothing but contempt. Watching George Bush’s reaction when an aide whispered in his ear the grim news, his body language said it all. I couldn’t help but remember the weird moment when Obama gave the shout out to Joe Medicine Crow after the Fort Hood shootings. Two very different men, two very different reactions.

The worst day of my 50-year-old life (my dad’s death comes in second).

At the time, I was a transplanted New Yorker, living in LA. I was at the WTC on 9/4/01 during a brief trip east to visit friends and family. Every time I came back, I felt like a tourist, eager to see all the sites I took for granted whilst living here.

I would take the E train in from my folks’ place in Forest Hills down to the WTC and then visit Century 21, J&R Music and then work my way north through Tribeca and SoHo. So, I always referred to WTC as “Ground Zero” having no inkling of what that would come to mean.

On that particular day, as I got out of the subway, something compelled me to cast my gaze skywards. I looked up at the towers and stared for about a minute. Then I turned away and left.

My mother, now 82, survived the Nazis. She has always reminded me that when she and the last of the survivors pass away, it will be as if it never happened (as the revisionists attempt to do on a daily basis), just as Pearl Harbor has virtually become.

By allowing the memory of these things to die, without reinforcing the meaning, it will happen again. The prime example is the utter ignorance of so many young people about the true nature of our government and history.

Tragically, there are those who have based an entire political movement upon erasing the history and meaning of our nation and replacing it with an alien and evil ideology. It has been only 9 years since that awful day and only after only a month or so since the attack, they have been pissing on the graves of those who were butchered.

That’s all I’ll say about it. This is a day of remembrance and reflection. I am staring out of my apartment window downtown from the Village and can see the empty space of what was. I think as I look back, a part of me died that day and my beloved New York (crazy liberals and all) has never and will never be the same.

Rambling now, and about to cry. G-d bless us all and the sacred memory of all the victims and their families.

AND G-D DAMN TO THE 9TH RING OF HELL THE IDEOLOGY AND PEOPLE THAT WROUGHT THIS.

I remember when the song “Have You Forgotten?” by Darryl Worley came out. The reaction from the leftists was predictable: “Of course we haven’t forgotten!”

In retrospect, I think they were right. They can’t forget that which they never learned.

On the other hand, I can’t forget. Though the impact on my life was minimal, I still felt like I had been punched in the gut (and I do know what that really feels like). My country was wounded. I doubt any of these pathetic trans-national, post-national, globalist, statist, progressive pigs know what that feels like.

Breathes there the man with soul so dead
Who never to himself hath said,
This is my own, my native land!
Whose heart hath ne’er within him burned,
As home his footsteps he hath turned
From wandering on a foreign strand!
    If such there breathe, go, mark him well;
    For him no minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud his name,
Boundless his wealth as wish can claim
Despite those titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch, concentred all in self,
    Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust from whence he sprung,
    Unwept, unhonored , and unsung.

from “The Lay of the Last Minstrel”
    by Sir Walter Scott

As midnight approached, to bring in the 11th, I felt increasingly somber.
I remember. I will not forget.

    In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
between the crosses, row on row.
That mark our place; and in the sky

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    Steel your resolve, indeed, Michelle.

Remembering not just the attack, which we do today, but the days and weeks afterward is important. Talking about it with our friends and family, and bringing back the memories of this time, pulling them out of storage and sharing them…that is important, too.

This was an event that SHOULD have taught us how thin the veneer of civilization is…how fragile our wonderful, complex way of life is…and how quickly it can be disrupted by evil.

We push those memories away from us as some natural process, but that cannot be allowed to happen. There are existential enemies of the U.S. in the world (several), and they will…if allowed…attempt to destroy our culture and our nation.

In some ways, we recovered too fast, and too well from 9/11 to really have the lessons driven home.

Be prepared. Be strong. Be mindful. Be thankful. And never submit to any tyranny from any quarter.

America has forgotten. America is too afraid of offending people to resolve the problem.

The news today is that the problem now is ‘home grown’ terrorism. How can that be? We are fighting and dying and spending our tax dollars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We are wasting our time and our money there (especially because now we have to curtail our freedoms and rights to protect our tax dollar paid for military).

We don’t need to use the military to end this threat. We can deny entry to America for anyone who has gone to or through Pakistan or Afghanistan and Somalia. Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Jew, if you have been there, you can’t come here.

That would neutralize the threat, cost less in dollars, and our soldiers can actually fight for freedom and Americans.

As it stands, our military is fighting and dying on the other side of the world for a corrupt government to impose Sharia law (maybe not as strict as the Taliban, but their law is based on Islam).

This country and this world is lost. It will take another 9/11 for people to wake up again. If it hadn’t happened in NYC, where everything is a million times more important because of the media there, we wouldn’t even have this special.

My faith is not in America or Americans to do the right thing. I recommend everyone put their faith in the God of the Christian Bible and accept Jesus’ sacrifice for you.

In America, we aren’t allowed to say a prayer with Jesus in it, we aren’t allowed to criticize the homosexual agenda, and we aren’t allowed to analyze Islam critically to determine what we need to do to maintain our freedoms while protecting us from people who do us harm.

We aren’t safer since 9/11. We have forgotten.

Now, the most powerful country on earth cowers in political correctness and allows our enemies the privilege of setting the rules of engagement.

Karzai in his remarks to commemorate 9/11 asked that we not ‘kill civilians’. We remember today the close to 3,000 innocents that were murdered that day, and the countless number of families and friends that still mourn them. Ground Zero was a killing field and I’ll never forgive them nor whatever ideology that was responsible for rotting the minds of those that did it.

And, no Mr. President, I don’t feel like celebrating.

Very good 24Klady, the self-important ManChild President is rather oblivious- and contemptuous- of the feelings, wants and needs of his constituency-the American people. He and his fellow Leftist/fascist consider the murder of the innocent an inconvenience at worse-indeed something we deserve.

Never Forget? And do remember it is the cowards among us who are the bigger threat; cowards, Quislings, collaborators are ALL as guilty as the Jihadist. When they build their temple to their moon god at Ground Zero our Mr. President will have a place to practice his call to prayer when in New York.

I was surprised however to hear our Dear Leader actually use the word “terrorist”. I think the most terrifying thing for me is we have a CiC that doesn’t know why we are fighting or who our enemy is.

“We are not at war against Islam. We are at war against terrorist organizations that have distorted Islam or that have falsely used the banner of Islam to engage in their destructive act,”

As Michelle suggested this week, he ought to read the Quran. These “terrorist organizations” are following it to the letter – with one glaring exception. There were muslims in the WTC. Anyone who takes the life of one of the faithful shall be struck down – so says their un-holy book.

No problem. It’s Islam. Either those muslims who died were willing sacrifices in the war against the infidels, just the same as the warrior/heroes who hijacked the planes, or they weren’t really muslims. They were apostates muhammed has ordered to be killed.

All flights worldwide were grounded for the day, but I took a flight the following morning, despite State Department travel warnings for US citizens. The airports were almost other worldly. Empty echo chambers with lots of military with automatic weapons and riot gear. I saw a Muslim in the terminal in Madrid, we locked eyes for a second, then he just looked down. I had no anger toward him – just wanted to know why. I knew many Muslims in Asia – all peaceful people.

I called my parents in Northern Virginia, because they lived not far from the Pentagon (at least too close for comfort from my point of view). It was hard to get through–the lines were all busy (when does that ever happen?). My father was in tears on the phone–that’s hard to take. He said ‘honey we’re at war’, and put the phone down. He didn’t even realize he hung up on me.

We went to another classroom to watch the news. Nobody had any idea what was happening…however, even before the second plane hit, all the muslim students in the school were sent home ‘for their safety.’
The next edition of the school newspaper (ostensibly about the attacks) was full of quotes by them about how we shouldn’t blame muslims and islam…muslims wouldn’t do such a thing. It had to be someone else. They wouldn’t even admit it might be ‘exrtemist’ muslims who had ‘hijacked’ the ‘religion of peace.’

But I did see those Palestinians partying in the streets of Gaza and I did see the professional Muslim complaint groups come out and paint themselves as the victims, not the people who were actually dead. I finally understood what Israelis have to live with every day and I finally realized an awful lot of those folks do not mean well, not just a few random kooky fanatics.

It took me a couple of minutes to fully wake up and understand what was happening after the news guy starting yelling that the first tower had been hit. I didn’t do the workout and watched on TV until I went to work. Of those who bothered to show up, no one did any work that day. Someone set up TVs in several offices and the break room and we watched the unfolding horror mostly in silence.

To those who lost their lives on 9/11, to their families and friends who survived with the pain of such a loss, to those first responders who did everything possible, and to those who now put their own lives on the line every day so we can live in freedom, I say a prayer on your behalf. Work hard, raise their families, contribute to their communities and for the most part keep their (our) mouths shut. No more. Per Rasmussen 63% believe the country in heading in the wrong direction – 23% think its all good. That’s the sleeping giant.

It is so important that we remind today’s youth of what 9/11 felt like to those of us with keen memories. The sense of collective violation and anger, the stories of heroism and support by everyday people, all of which ultimately resulted in immense pride for our country’s ideals–freedom, liberty, and justice–was unlike anything that I’ve experienced before or since. That unity soon dissolved when the ultra-left in this country got into people’s heads, pounding away about how everyone’s civil rights were being violated and how war is not the answer. The mentality of appeasement became dominant, and retribution became less relevant. We became worried about the rights of the enemy instead of the rights of those whose lives were prematurely, instantly, and unexpectedly snuffed out of existence.

Those of us who haven’t forgotten the unwarranted deaths of the innocent, those of us who haven’t forgotten the destruction of an American symbol of ingenuity and productivity, those of us who haven’t forgotten the attack on one of our nation’s symbols of security, have been struggling to shout down the media onslaught of distractions, redirections, and selective memories for nine years.

The truth is that on 9/11/01, the American way of life was attacked on a world stage, and the war was officially declared. It’s not a war in the typical sense. It’s a war that will continue until America’s threat to freedom, liberty, and justice has ended once and for all. It may be a war that will never end. It is a war that we will lose all that much sooner if we allow future generations to forget that unified sense of violation, anger, and, yes, pride that we felt on that terrible day. 9/11 was a wake-up call to most of us, and it’s frustrating to see how many have fallen back to sleep.

My teenage nephew was asked recently what he knew about 9/11. He said he knew some basic things, but he didn’t seem to grasp the importance of the event on a personal level. He was disconnected from the event, as though it was just another item in the history books. He said his school didn’t put a lot of focus on the event, nor did it focus on why the event took place. I think he just saw a few bad guys who blew up some buildings, and that’s why George Bush started two wars. I’ll be seeing him tonight, and I have some videos for him to see. His parents may not like what I have to show him, but our country’s resolve must not waver against those who wish to see all of us–all of us–dead or surrendered to their laws. We will not succeed in retaining our independence unless we remind those who are too young to remember of how we felt that day.

We must never underestimate the influence of our enemy. The way for ordinary Americans to counter the forgetfulness of past events is to remind those who can’t remember. We can’t expect others to do the reminding for us, and we can’t expect our society to retain those memories when we’re gone. We can only do our best to pass these memories on to others.

Instead of surrendering to another way of life, the act of which in itself disrespects those who wish to live their own lives freely, we should beseech the open-minded in our enemies midst to marginalize the most radical of their voices. Only when people step up to overthrow those who wish to see the end of freedom will we approach an end to this war. Until then, we will continue to scrutinize the enemy. The battle for freedom and liberty will never end until one side or the other is vanquished. This can be done on their terms or on ours. Both sides have the option to use an “us versus them” tactic, which will only result in more bloodshed. Our side can spread a message of “reason versus madness” tactic, but only through unification of our message. Part of that message involves us showing that as long as they continue to attack us for simply existing as a free and open society, we–standing as one united–will continue to take the offensive. And our opponents must use that reasoning for an “us versus ourselves” tactic, which would result in a victory for everyone.

We cannot maintain our nation’s independence if we continue on this path of forgetfulness and politically-correct “understanding.” We’re not stupid. Understanding must go both ways. We understand them just fine. They are the ones who refuse to understand themselves, to see themselves for who they are. Of course, there are those among them who do understand, but they’re either too afraid, too ambivalent, or too embracing of their violent and oppressive ways.

If anything, the lesson of 9/11 should be that reality is much different than wishful thoughts.

Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. In the first stage of life the mind is frivolous and easily distracted, it misses progress by failing in consecutiveness and persistence. This is the condition of children and barbarians, in which instinct has learned nothing from experience.

By the way, Obama didn’t say “celebrate.” He said “commemorate.”
