First Lady Gets Into the Restaurant’s Business

Only a carefully placed apostrophe separates “getting into the restaurant business” from “getting into the restaurant’s business” — but Michelle Obama continues to only be interested in the latter, because it’s cheaper than starting your own place, you don’t have to risk your own capital and you can still control the menu:

Speaking at the National Restaurant Association Monday, Mrs. Obama pleaded with restaurants small and large to take a little butter or cream out of their dishes, use low fat milk and provide apple slices or carrots as a default side dish on the kids’ menu.

Mrs. Obama said that Americans are spending half of their food dollars outside the home and eating a third of meals in restaurants. She asked the restaurants to rethink the food they offer and reformulate their menus to help combat childhood obesity.

Nobody really thought they’d stop at smoking and salt, did they? And if the restaurants need help retooling their menus, I’m sure the SEIU can and will be quickly enlisted to assist.

The laughable contradiction about those who claim to be losing sleep over childhood obesity, say they want to send kids healthier messages and champion things like “Let’s Move” is that this is usually the same bunch who’s election-year sales pitch to the minions is essentially “elect us and you’ll never have to get off the couch again!”
