At Last, a Democrat Takes Ownership of the Health Care Bill

Yesterday I wrote about how the majority of Democrats are running from the health care bill they so proudly passed mere months ago. But there’s one Democrat who isn’t shying away from responsibility for his part in forcing the unpopular debacle on America.

New York Rep. Anthony Weiner has unabashedly taken ownership of the health care bill — Not unlike that one courageous man in an elevator full of people plugging their noses and looking for the guilty party who isn’t afraid to boldy step forward, look everyone in their watering eyes and proudly proclaim, “Yes, it was I who sharted! I may have gotten some on your shoes or inflicted permanent damage upon your olfactory glands, but you will thank me someday!”

At a townhall meeting Monday, Weiner did just that: “I wrote the bill… the bill and I are one.”

Nancy Pelosi said that we’d have to “pass the bill to find out what’s in it,” and sure enough, it’s got Weiner all over it — and now we all do:

Will Anthony get an FTD “Thanks for throwing yourself on that grenade for us” bouquet from appreciative Dems? Maybe, but voters are going to remember all the rest of ’em no matter what.

Maggie Haberman adds:

The Senate version of the health care bill had most of the elements that actually passed, not the House one.
