Conversation coming soon to a prison cell near you:

“What are you in for?”

“Grand theft auto. You?”

“Butter.”

BALTIMORE — The Baltimore City Health Department issued its first environmental citation for repeat violations of the city’s trans fat ban.

The Health Department issued Healthy Choice, a food facility in the 400 block of Lexington Street, a $100 fine on Thursday.

“It was the second time they were found with a high trans fat level in their ingredients,” said Health Department agent Juan Gutierrez.

Officials said that during inspections in July and this month, the facility was found to be using a margarine product with trans fat levels in excess of what the law allows.

A source tells me the Health Department stormtroopers are referring to this particular type of crime as “a salt & fattery.”

Baltimore’s “Commissioner of Health” (you can’t make this stuff up), Dr. Oxiris Barbot (you certainly can’t make that up), is quoted as saying this (accent added by me for more appropriate Eastern Bloc effect): “Vile vee are pleased vis zee high rates of compliance veev seen since zee ban tuke effekt, vee vill continue to sankshun beeznesses zaht repeatedly fail to komply.”

Join me in standing up to these people and yelling at the top of our lungs, “From my cold, dead frying pan!”

If you want to screw the “food police” buing real butter is the worst thing you could do. Butter has a low amount of naturally occuring type of trans fat, conjugated linoleic acid, that actually has positive health benefits.

Anyone see a possible liability issue arising down the road as governments attempt to control diets by issuing penalities for foods presently deemed unhealthy? What happens when alternate research later reveals that what the food police claimed was unhealthy at one point in time is proven to not be so bad for us? Certainly meat contains trans fat. But then where would Obama get his cheese burgers?

I definitely don’t trust them. One reason I love this country so much has been its tolerance. Nobody questioned my becoming a vegetarian. Nobody stopped me from reading books on Eastern philosophy and choosing my own path in life.

Yes. Yous see it is no longer a health issue. Rather, not eating certain foods is an economic decision that affects interstate commerce. Oh ya Chap, a Big Mac is pretty much is equivalent to this:

Considered responsible for the Black Plague during the Middle Ages, rats are still well-known carriers of over 70 diseases. From the transmission of bubonic plague to typhus and Hantavirus, rat infestations can prove harmful to human health.

One of the most dangerous rat-borne diseases is the bubonic plague and its variants. Transfer occurs when infested rats or rat fleas bite human beings. Symptoms include headache, weakness and coughing. Septicemic plague may result in bleeding into the skin and other organs. This fatal disease often kills within the same day that symptoms first appear.

Rat urine is responsible for the spread of leptospirosis, which can result in liver and kidney damage. Complications include renal and liver failure, as well as cardiovascular problems. Approximately half of the reported cases of leptospirosis are fatal.

Lymphocytic choriomeningitis, a viral infectious disease, is transmitted through the saliva and urine of rats. This disease results in fever, malaise, appetite loss, muscle aches, headache, nausea and vomiting. Victims may also experience inflammation of the central nervous system and can contract meningitis or encephalitis. Some individuals experience long-term effects of lymphocytic choriomeningitis, while others experience only temporary discomfort.

Rats are also known carriers of Hantavirus, a deadly renal syndrome that causes tachycardia and tachypnoea. Victims may be debilitated and can experience cardiovascular shock. Hantavirus is transmitted through rat urine and feces.

While you’re at it, please scold me for not wanting fill my house with Mercury and buy a car 3 times more environmentally damaging than a Hummer so we can all “Save the Freakin Planet.”

    Correct.

I remember a medical staff meeting ~20 years ago, when the medical staff actually held a vote on whether to support a mandatory seat-belt law for adults; one of the arguments that the socialist/statist docs who were pushing for a yes vote gave was that, since auto accident victims aren’t turned away, and that (?)some money(?) was provided to hospitals (?)by the state(?), that the state had an interest in compelling adults to wear seat belts.

A clear example of the irreconcilable difference in worldviews that is at the root of most, if not virtually all, of the social discord our wonderful country is threatened by.

Then they can’t donate it anywhere because they would be violating their own law and would be portrayed as hypocrites. And they can’t keep it because they would be portrayed as hypocrites.

Due to the stupidity of that law and the department created, it’s a lose-lose situation for them.

Absolutely. If people really know what they are getting, then you should be able to go for it.

However, we went through a thirty to forty year ‘experiment’ with processed foods wherein we learned that consumers don’t actually buy their packaged food in that ideal libertarian world way. They look at the headline and buy their “Corn Flakes” even when if they did the research and studied the company and so on, they would have been able to figure out there wasn’t a whole lot of corn in those flakes.

The normal libertarian process of people learning to avoid the ‘bad’ foods just wasn’t happening. It was unprosecuteable fraud on a massive scale.

Now we have food labeling laws, and we have many other laws regarding food safety, like regulating how much rat droppings is allowed.

That was the good face of liberalism, before it won all of its struggles and then went all leftwing nutsoid bonkers off the rails trying to find more dragons to slay.

Regulating trans fats is a good thing. This is not the problem. It’s when the regulators go after perfectly healthy Big Macs and Snickers candy bars (when consumed in moderation) because they are ‘fattening’ that they are way out of line.

Chap, if you think that Health Departments have time to police trans fats, look no farther at the extent of bed bug infestations occuring in the Eastern U.S. in the year 2010.

One more point. My elederly mother’s odds of surviving a diet of trans fats is better than her odds of surviving an Obamacare Death Panel.

No one is saying they can’t. But it is stupid to arbitrarily choose one health problem and say you can’t focus on another until that one has been effectively eradicated. Especialy when eradication is for all intents and purposes, impossible.

I didn’t. I used it as a singular example. The issue is where is a Health Services Department going to use their limited resources. Trans Fats do not even make my Top 50.

It’s the Emotionally Driven Prioritized World of the Loonie Left that is not based on risk, sciecne or anything else OTHER THAN POLITICAL CONTROL. I note that you still fail to refute that premise.

So he just announced a grant for $530 million dollars to spend on?…….. WAIT FOR IT…..passenger train service between Iowa City (pop 60,000) and Chicago. Forget the fact their is an existing Amtrak line 40 miles south of Iowa City that no one rides and is still subsidized.

Do the ROI on that expenditure. I can walk to Mars before that ever breaks even or turns a penny of profit to repay the $530 million. That’s how you pile up a $5 trillion deficit in 4 years, that mindset.

Well, I know that “they” is a pronoun, usually referring to one previously mentioned, which in this case would be your “all-knowing nanny state.” The law I was referring to was in fact passed by a state, though I leave it to others to speculate on the “all knowing” or “nanny” descriptors.

And lets see…”have” in this context is a helper verb indicating past tense. The law I am referring to passed in 2006, which I believe is in the past.

“outlawed” is a verb meaning to make illegal or ban, and the law I am referring to did ban and make illegal.

“cigarettes” are those tiny sticks that you light up and smoke. And I know that the law I am referring to made specific mention of them.

“in” is a preposition meaning “inclusion within something” and I know that the law dealty with being inside certain areas.

“public places” is a noun meaning “areas generally open and available to all.” And I know the bill deals with restaurants, hospitals, shops…all of which are specifically covered by the law I am referrign to.

Sorry if that was too complex for you to follow, but I am quite certain I am on firm ground, both legally and etymologically.
