Colorado Democrat Senate candidate Michael Bennet has been getting plenty of help from the liberal media in his tight race with GOP upstart Ken Buck.
But not everyone in the media is willing to play along.
The hosts of KOA’s morning show in Denver, Steffan Tubbs and April Zesbaugh, made public an e-mail from the Bennet campaign before their interview with the candidate today. Apparently, Bennet’s staff thinks he needs some special love, care, and hand-holding. And apparently, the campaign thinks it’s entitled to the same drool bucket treatment that Bennet godfather Barack Obama has so long enjoyed.
Not this time, buttercup.
FOLKS: THIS IS HILARIOUS. WE WILL SAY IT IS DOUBTFUL BENNET EVEN KNOWS THESE WERE SENT OUT TO US. NONETHELESS, READ ON:
As we discussed, attached are general topics and questions I included in Senator Bennet’s memo for the interview this morning with Steffan and April. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Q. In what ways are you a better choice for this seat?
Q. What do you bring to the Senate
Q. What is your greatest accomplishment?
Q. How’s life on the campaign trail? Are you having fun?
Q. How’s the family holding up?
Q. What do you dislike the most about campaigning?
Q. This is a very important election and according to the most recent polling, you and your opponent are in a dead heat, is there anything you would like to tell our listeners with less than a week until election day?
“Are you having fun?”
“How’s the family holding up?”
Looks like they forgot to add “Are you geting enough sleep?” and “Can we make you a chicken pot pie?”
Support Ken Buck for Colorado here. Because we need a senator who doesn’t need to be spoon-fed.
Ed Morrissey at Hot Air:
I’ve been doing talk shows on terrestrial radio for almost seven years, and daily Internet shows for the last three-plus years, and have interviewed hundreds of politicians in that period. Obviously, they appear on these shows to push their message and/or campaigns, so their staffs usually try to subtly set boundaries of dialogue to keep the politician from getting blindsided or going off message. Mainly, they just ask the show hosts what topics will come up during the spot and gauge their preparation accordingly. On occasion, their staff will ask to avoid a certain topic, and rarely will demand that certain questions don’t get asked, which typically get answered with, “Can’t promise anything.” In almost seven years, I could probably count the incidences of the latter on one hand, and as I recall, all of them had to do with personal issues that weren’t germane anyway.
Never — and I mean never — has a staffer attempted to provide me with the questions I’d be allowed to ask.
