Standing tall: The rise & resilience of conservative women

My column today pays tribute to some of the conservative women on the campaign trail who have not only weathered the nastiest ad hominem attacks, but who have risen above them with amazing grace. Is it any wonder that women are abandoning the Democrat Party? Readers of this blog have known that women played a critical role in the Tea Party movement from day one. Now, the “fire in the heartland,” as Citizens United calls it, has liberal elites like Katie Couric wringing their hands over “unwashed” moms, grandmoms, and young women in revolt.
Speaker Mop and Glo Nancy Pelosi had her chance to clean up Washington. She failed. Miserably. Move over and make room for the ladies of the Right.

My military friends have a favorite saying: “If you’re not catching flak, you’re not over the target.” This campaign season, conservative women in politics have caught more flak than WWII Lancaster bombers over Berlin. Despite daily assaults from the Democratic machine, liberal media and Hollyweird — not to mention the stray fraggings from Beltway GOP elites – the ladies of the right have maintained their dignity, grace and wit. Voters will remember in November.
When “comedian” and “The View” co-host Joy Behar lambasted GOP Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle this week as a “bitch” who would be “going to hell” for using images of illegal alien gang members in a campaign ad, Angle responded by sending a lovely bouquet of flowers and a good-humored note: “Joy, Raised $150,000 online yesterday. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Sharron Angle.”
Outgunned in the comedy department, Behar sputtered nonsensically and with bitter, clingy vulgarity: “I would like to point out that those flowers were picked by illegal immigrants and they’re not voting for you, bitch.” Illegal aliens are not supposed to vote at all, Miss B. But why let such pesky details get in the way of a foul-mouthed daytime TV diatribe?
Just a week earlier, Behar delivered a hysterical rant against GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, accusing the mother of five and foster mother of 23 of being “against children” for opposing the expansion of federal health care entitlements for middle-class families and children (the SCHIP program) and for opposing the costly Obama takeover of health care. Behar merely parrots the demagoguery of Democratic leaders in Washington, who have ducked behind kiddie human shields to avoid substantive debate about the dire consequences of their policies.
As a result of the Obamacare mandates, of course, insurers have canceled child-only plans across the country. And there are plenty of compassionate reasons for opposing SCHIP expansion beyond its original mandate to serve the truly working poor. Behar called me a “selfish bitch” three years ago over the same issue. Why is it “against children” and “selfish” to challenge the wisdom of redistributing money away from taxpayers of lesser means who are responsible enough to buy insurance before a catastrophic event — and then using their tax dollars to subsidize more well-off families who didn’t have the foresight or priorities to purchase insurance with their own money?
But never mind those pesky details. Behar persisted in smearing Bachmann as “anti-children, anti-children.” Facts be damned.
Distortions on “The Spew” are bad enough. But the “mainstream” media’s complicity in spreading false narratives about GOP women is an affront to the First Amendment. When Republican Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell challenged Democratic opponent Chris Coons in a constitutional debate last week to name the five freedoms in that First Amendment, he blanked out after freedom of religion. Instead of reporting on the flub, the Washington Post and Associated Press misleadingly reported that O’Donnell had questioned whether the establishment and free exercise clauses were in the First Amendment. What she actually said to Coons during the debate was: “So you’re telling me that the separation of church and state, the phrase ‘separation of church and state,’ is in the First Amendment?” It is not, of course. But never mind those pesky details.
In one of the most despicable last-minute campaign hits, gossip website Gawker — run by Internet smear machine operator Nick Denton — paid for and published on Thursday an anonymous tell-all from a man purporting to have had a “one-night stand” with O’Donnell. This misogynistic trash can’t be verified, and the author admits that the sensationally titled “one-night stand” did not actually include sex. The sole purpose and intent of such checkbook journalism: Humiliation.
Pundits and late-night TV pranksters have ridiculed O’Donnell for exposing liberal bias against conservative female candidates. But these same smug mockers have spent the past two years deriding Republican vice presidential candidate and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, her children, her body, her accent and her brain. They snickered at reports of Democratic California gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown’s campaign calling GOP challenger Meg Whitman a “whore.” And they shrugged off “The View’s” “bitch” sessions as shtick.
The conservative women-bashers can laugh all they want. On November 2, success will be our best revenge.

I’ve been hesitating on mentioning this, but it may be a good idea to remove the word “Lancaster” & just say WWII bombers. The Lancaster was a British bomber & some may see your mention of it as a slight to the Americans.
Other than that, I’ve known for a long time that the only women the libs like are other libs. All others are seen as enemies and must be destroyed.
The silence about the lack of women’s rights in Islamic countries speaks VOLUMES as they tell us we must be tolerant of the intolerant.
I am SO PROUD of the brave Conservative women who have stepped up, knowing full well they would be bashed, slandered and called stupid. They saw what happened to Sarah Palin, and jumped in with both feet, willing to take it for our Country!! I pray for their safety and their success!!! As for all those trash-talking regressives out there…they are losing. So I guess their nastiness didn’t do a thing for them and in fact, probably helped our women! Keep praying for them, as they have a tough road ahead, even after they win. The regressives will NEVER accept them and will continue to slur them at every opportunity. Wake up, America! Doesn’t it seem a bit strange that ALL Conservative women are “stupid” but ALL regressive women are “brilliant”? You have to be pretty stupid to believe that, don’t you?
Leftists are all hypocrits, the ends justify the means, so says their hero Alinsky, who dedicated their holy book to Lucifer.
I know what Michelle meant and I’m okay with it. My father caught some of that flak over Berlin in his B-17.
If Ms. Angle wins, this may be the answer to the liberal smears — send money. When the conservatives win, the liberals may realize that their words caused their candidates to lose. Of course, we are talking about brain-dead, knuckle-dragging, socialists. So they may just keep right on going with the smear campaigns. Works for me!
I simply can’t understand why Joy Behar remains on that show. I appreciate that the mindless watch “The View” as a break from the game-shows, but if I produced that program, I would find someone funny and less caustic. How about Christine O’Donnell?
I would rather have all my teeth pulled without novacaine than watch The View! I am serious! That show is PAINFUL!!
Brava, Michelle, BRAVA!!!
This is an increasingly important issue, and good on you Michelle for writing a column that will appear in newspapers all over the country.
You didn’t even include yourself in this, and you certainly could have. Wasn’t it Gawker that went after you not so long ago with a photoshop job of your face on some girl’s bikini clad body partying at spring break?
I believe the word “whore” was prominent in that smear attempt as well, as if it is somehow wrong for an attractive conservative woman to wear a bikini on the beach.
We are not burka wearing Muslims, after all. We are Americans who are free.
You are right, of course. A liberal voting block is threatened by the examples of conservative women who are attractive, telegenic, happy and confident in where they stand.
The same thing just happened in the Florida Senate race. The Democrats are so deathly afraid of Marco Rubio rising to national prominence with a Senate seat, so afraid of an inspiring, articulate, telegenic Hispanic conservative getting attention nationwide, that they sent the First Black President, Bill Clinton into Florida to throw the Expendable Black Guy under the bus on behalf of the Second Black President, and the First Orange Governor.
What a tangle of race obsessed, shallow power hungry schemers these liberals are.
They don’t give half a crap about Crist, he is just a tool with which to destroy Marco in order to protect their Hispanic race pandering election strategies. It is a repeat of Sarah Palin, why she must be destroyed to protect their precious Gender Gap on election day.
Conservative Republican women are seeing it in 2010, but Democrats know full well that the same was done to Hillary Clinton in 2008.
Two things conservative Republicans really need to see in order to understand the perspective of the millions of formerly life-long Democrats who will be voting for Republicans in this election:
1) We Will Not Be Silenced
2) An Open Letter to Rush Limbaugh and His Listeners — With Notes on the Democrat Civil War Already In Progress
“checkbook journalism”
Nice, Michelle. Your new phrase perfectly describes these scumbag tactics.
The weekend may be slow, but with their desperation reaching critical level, I expect Monday to be… interesting.
If the leftoids have their urine stained panties in a twist over the stupidity of the so called “hicks, rubes and unwashed masses” I have a simering anger towards the “Red diapper doper babies” and their offspring and the mindless drone type mentality that drives them.

It’s about ratings and money for the show sponsors. The real question is how can people sit in this audience and continue to applaud her loud-mouthed, vile and caustic banter. If people would get up and walk out of that show it would send a message that her rants are inappropriate. Sadly, she is cheered and thus, validated by the 30 some people in the crowd. The million or so who are reportedly watching are also part of the problem.
I wish Fox and O’Reilly would stop talking about her. Without them I wouldn’t know who she is or what she says. She’s a nobody, a nothing except in her own small mind.

If you can judge someone by their enemies, these ladies are most certainly a cut above.
We need to say thanks to a whole lot of flat out patriotic women out there who are taking a beating from the democrats. Locally we have a lady named Catherine Engelbrecht that has organized the King Street Patriots in Houston. Her group of volunteers pored through new voter registrations a few weeks ago and found fraud rates of well over 50% from an SEIU/OFA front named Houston Votes. They went through training to be poll watchers during early voting and have been intimidated and harassed at the pooling places in the minority communities. She is being sued as well. It appears the democrat party fits the description of a fish rotting from the head down.

I am personally overjoyed that the conservative resurgence is led by strong, conservative women. Frankly, all to many “conservative” men in DC have sold out.
I have no problem voting for a conservative woman and if they will come to Washington, DC and take care of business then keep sending more of them until the job is done!
Malkin/Coulter 2012!
So satisfying to contemplate seeing Conservative women delivering a severe beatdown to the slavish Marxians on Tuesday. But unlike Barack Hussein Obama, Conservative winners won’t be telling the losers to get in the back of the bus. Real Conservatives (not the me-too bird dogs) will display a gold standard that Liberal Marxists cannot match and it will rock the political world. Not that it will reform the unrepentent die-hard Marxist, but the contrasts between ideologies will be stark and out there for all the world to see.

ITTRP: I read that link you posted and wow. It seems that Glenn Beck is right in his assertion that the Democrat party has been co-opted by a very radical left wing faction, they appear to have no compunction in using strong arm tactics to achieve what they want.
At least it’s believeable. The same accusation about any of the liberal hags wouldn’t get any traction at all.
Ahhh, the heartwarming superiority of the “intelligent” and “compassionate” left. Name calling, put downs, and made up attacks, on women no less. Must be the secret, law of attraction. What a way to win friends and influence people! Lets all have a group hug.

Regarding the Gawker smear…
How ironic, but not surprising, that libgressives would consider O’Donnell’s choice to not have sex during her “one-night stand” to be embarrassing or scandalous (assuming it actually happened).
What we need next Tuesday is to issue a “restraining order,” pending the donkey party performing what amounts to an exorcism on itself.
The demons who presently possess the soul of that party will not just go away when their policies are rejected. They will have to be exorcised, kicking and screaming because they don’t want to give up possession of their host and all the perks they’ve derived from it.
Republicans and independents cannot perform this removal. The donkeys will have to do it themselves, if they can, much like the tea party movement has been strong medicine for the Republicans.
And at this point I doubt that they can pull it off. A overriding fear of personal mental or physical discomfort — and its assorted symptomatic avoidance mechanisms — are hallmarks of modern liberalism. Rather than come to grips with their own selective misogyny that they use as a tool to keep women subservient on the gender plantation, they’ll just become more strident in their hatred of those who manage to escape.
Michelle and others like her are to the gender plantation what the Underground Railroad was to ante-bellum plantations in the south. The would-be slave masters don’t like them one little bit for offering hope and a way out to the oppressed. The more successful they become, the more violent the attempts to suppress them will become.
That is true, only the Democrats can do this, which is what the author of ITTRP’s link was saying. I hope he was speaking for ‘millions’ as he stated, and it wasn’t wishful thinking on his part. I agree that the pain of the character attacks that are part and parcel of challenging the Progressives are probably holding back a lot of the chemo that needs to be administered. The Tea Party and our Conservative Wonder Women realize that when you cringe and fall back against such attacks, then the Progressives have won. The saner Democrats are hard-wired to be pacifists and so those attacks work as intended. They need to get a thicker hide.

Nothing new here. History has many examples of strong brave women. The Old Testament Jael who drove a tent peg through the ear of the enemy commander when she “entertained” him in her tent. He got lots of wine–and a trip to Hell.

Joan of Arc, Margaret Thatcher, and our current Conservative political ladies and real journalists in more modern history.

And these brave ladies show more strength than most of the male political establishment candidates of both parties. Good job, ladies–keep up the good work–hit ‘em harder!

Time for a total top to bottom spring cleaning of the political systems. All the corrupt manipulative lying self-appointed elites need to be swept away, never to be heard from again. if they had anything going for them, they would not need to cheat to be elected.
Democrats have been trying to stifle conservative women, blacks and hispanics. We now see it big time in Florida. To try to stop a Republican hispanic, who could turn more hispanics away from the Demon-cratic party, they have tried to get the black candidate, Meeks to resign so that the White candidate (formerly known as a moderate Republican), to join the democratic controlled senate.
This is all too bizarre, but it is a dump the black candidate for the white turncoat in order to stop the brown candidate scheme.
I am hoping more and more black and hispanic people start seeing where the real racism and sexism lies in this country.
I remember Obama calling Hillary “Annie Oakley” in the primaries and saw his sexism at that time.
Since only a Democrat would give their self a hat tip, I’d like to add your name Michelle to the list of resilient conservative women who have suffered repulsive attacks by crazy liberals and yet you continue to lead the fight to recover our constitutional republic.
Thank you and keep up the great work.
Personally, I recommend Michelle Bachmann be the new speaker, with Boehner as his majority leader. This would send a signal to the country club republicans that it isn’t business as usual. Also, Boehner has said his big goal is to cut 100 billion out of the budget. We added over 2 trillion to the budget over the last 18 months, 3 trillion over the last 2 years, and he can only find 100 billion to cut. He needs to find 1.6 trillion to cut to just balance the budget. In my opinion Bachman has bigger cajones than Boehner.
Hitler Finds Out about Rush Limbaugh’s Reverse Operation Chaos.
Hitler is really upset with the PUMAS aligning themselves with Rush. Pretty Funny warning adult language.
Note to self – no dates with women named Jael.
Kidding.
The contrast with the current speaker would be stark. I dunno though – she’s only raised 28 kids – is that enough experience to keep 400+ babies in line?
Too true Aloha. My mom only raised 7 kids and she could still whip most of us when her last reached majority, so I expect Michelle Bachmann has some tough as well as some heart.
Laree, that Hitler spoof is great, it seems to be capable of working in multiple situations, but this is classic.
I love the strength, confidence and feminine beauty of conservative women.
And here are your winners:
Ayotte in NH
O’Donnell in DE
MacMahon(sp?) in CT
Fiorina in CA
Bachmann in MN
and — most satisfyingly of all:
Angle in NV
Popcorn is ready, Slurpee on ice, and my hand, mind, and conscience ready to Vote on Tuesday…
O’Donnell gets my vote as best soldier in this campaign because she’s taken away time and dollars that the Dems planned to invest in other campaigns. I’m hopeful her recent surge will lead to a win, but if not she has done a yeoman’s job of forcing the Dems – including POTUS – to take her on.
May I assert that the strongest of the strong women is Jan Brewer, who has taken on the White House in court and has rallied the people of Arizona and the country.
Review what Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats promised when they were asking for voters to give them control in the 2006 elections:
Voters have been trying for the past 3 elections to RESTORE FISCAL SANITY.
Voters weren’t happy with big government programs (like prescription drug benefits) and big budgets during the Republican years, and they believed what Pelosi was selling them in 2006.
Then, in 2008, TARP was used to paint the Republicans as fiscally irresponsible (even though the Democrats are more to blame).
In 2010, voters will once again vote for fiscal sanity… and that will mean a tidal wave that wipes out lots and lots of Democrat incumbents.
The problem with your thesis (which I believe is correct) is that it means the Voters are so incredibly stupid and ignorant they really did not understand the Democrats are always more fiscally irresponsible than the Republicans, and the Voters have driven us straight into this mess precisely because of that incredible stupidity and ignorance.
Yet now they are going to magically become Wise and Prudent Voters who will stick with voting for the more fiscally responsible candidates (that means the Republicans, and that means voting in the Republican primary for the most fiscally conservative Republican) for at least the next few elections.
Good luck with that. The truth is you can’t fix stupid. As soon as things seem to be getting better the American Voter in Her Blissful Idiocy will go straight back to voting for the Liar Party, because the Scoundrel’s lies make Her feel so good.
I mean, I understand hoping for an Awakening to truth about the political parties and the importance of fiscal responsibility and limited government is the only chance we have, and it’s what we have to be fighting for, but, seriously, don’t bet the farm on it.
Sara hit it out of the park this morning on FOX Sunday with Chris Wallace.
Did you see her defending Joe Miller against the Alaskan CBS affiliate hit piece on Fox News Sunday?
Sarah Palin – la belle dame et magnifique!
Don’t know guest’s name in Fox & Friends interview with Brian, but he said it all for tomorrow: “Your vote was stolen even before you got to the polls by “voters” who aren’t even supposed to be in this country. The ugly silent secret of illegals countering your vote.”
If only more understood this!
James Greenidge
Queens NY
And it isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s a fact.
In areas where there are more illegal aliens counted by the Census, fewer citizens are necessary to make a Congressional District. So places where illegal aliens are more welcome get more representation in Congress per citizen.
If you do not think this is significant, just consider how many key votes in Congress are won or lost by one or two votes.
That is one of the reasons the sanctuary cities are such abominations. As more illegals go to those cities, the areas those cities are in get more Congressional Districts, and thus more congresscritters with which to support more treasonous behavior.
‘Sanctuary cities’ are in rebellion. Their rebel leaders should be rounded up, given a military trial and shot.
Having worked with and known some of these very women involved in the rise of the tea party movement, it is my observation that there would have been no such movement without them, and the impetus and inspiration for their efforts was provided by the gutsy “tell-it-like-it-is” women you talk of that are constantly targeted by the left. Of course Michelle Malkin was among the earliest to inspire them- and us guys too.
The agenda of the left has been exposed as attacking the family, hurting the future of our children, and mama bears everywhere will never put up with that!
