Looks like there has been a coordinated attack on UPS planes worldwide today. Reports are breaking on a Yemen-Chicago plane stopped in London with a bomb on board. Planes also pulled over in Newark and Philadelphia.
Wild guess: It wasn’t planned by a Catholic or Mormon network. (Sarcasm off.)

uthorities are investigating a series of suspicious UPS packages across the East Coast – including one inside a delivery truck in Brooklyn, law enforcement sources said.
Cargo planes have been grounded at airports in Newark and Philadelphia and the NYPD bomb squad surrounded a UPS truck in at MetroTech in downtown Brooklyn, officials said.
“We’re investigating what we believe is a possible explosive device on board that truck,” said top NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.
Investigators believe an explosive device was on the truck, which was initially believed to be in Long Island City, law enforcement sources said.
However, detectives learned the truck left Queens and is now in Brooklyn. Authorities have surrounded a loading dock at 4 Metrotech, police said. The Manhattan Bridge was also shut down as a precaution.
The truck is believed to be connected to the threats against the UPS planes, according to law enforcement sources.
A suspected bomb was found on Friday in Britain on board a cargo plane headed to the United States, where authorities were investigating other cargo flights for “potentially suspicious items” in New York, Philadelphia and other cities.
The plane, a United Parcel Service (UPS.N) flight that stopped in Britain while traveling to Chicago from Yemen, was carrying an ink toner cartridge converted into a bomb, CNN reported.
An FBI source told Reuters that initial tests in Britain revealed no explosives.
British police said the plane carrying the suspicious package was being checked at a distribution center at East Midlands Airport, some 160 miles (260 km) north of London.
TSA statement:
“The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is aware of and monitoring reports of potentially suspicious items onboard cargo flights that landed safely at Newark Liberty and Philadelphia International airports. Out of an abundance of caution the planes were moved to a remote location where they are being met by law enforcement officials and swept.”

Update: Several packages now confirmed as threats. President Obama is quick, for once, to address the American people to confirm threat. US points finger at Al Qaeda.

Wait…as far as I can tell, this was triggered by the discovery of a strange package in London that is now being described as a “manipluated” toner cartidge that was subsequently found negative for explosives.
Are they still claiming that the original package in London was a bomb or what?

I wouldn’t be surprise if this was just a wild rumor started by someone in the WH to deflect all the talk about Clinton and the Florida Senate debacle. That is making the regressives look so bad, I wouldn’t put it past them to try and deflect. Or, the start of a big emergency, big enough to stop our elections? On the other hand, if it is real, God help us all. I went to a couple of online news sites and while I found references to this ongoing situation, I also found this story — which, I believe is even more ominous.
Sorry to go off-topic, but I would think many here would at least want to know about it. To summarize, Mexican drug cartel violence is here — as in on the US side of the border.. as in ‘suburban America’ folks. I realize that probably isn’t news to most here, but will be to some.

That is just what I was thinking. Why would a terrorist be so sloppy to have the white poweder all over the package and the circuit card and wires exposed? Makes me think that they were trying to see how far an obviously suspicious package would make it before someone sounded the alaram, as well as to what the response would be when found.

My father was one of the senior NCO itel guys who helped in the debriefing of the Iran hosatges. He told me that all the hostages knew without a doubt that the reason they were let go was the Iranians feared Reagan. They also told him that if Carter had been re-elected that they knew they were going to be executed. He never did elaborte (probably could not), but just the way he said it told me that he knew a lot more than he was ever allowed to say.

Having spent a decade in the commercial air cargo industry, I could tell you stories and about things that would make you NEVER want to get on a plane again..
.. Unfortunately, if I were to relate any of them, I would likely be arrested for violating “Need To Know” confidentiality requirements of the TSA so fast my head would spin.
I even went so far as to contact people on the relevant committees in Washington, wanting to give testimony, even in secret. They never responded.
All I can say is this: You won’t see me ever get on a plane again. EVER. This is coming from someone who flew twice only eight days after 9/11.

Actually Michelle, I think you will find it was this flight to JFK originating from Dubai carrying a package from Yemen.
When I working in Iraq as a contractor it was my job to arrange travel for vacations and end of contract travel back to the states. The Emirates nonstop flight from Dubai (DXB) to JFK was one of the most popular routes. It got you to the states at a reasonable hour and the service was excellent.

HI TTFK–#78. I used to read Aviation Week magazine to find out what was going on in the Missile and Radar business. A few years after our personnel and equipment went somewhere–I could finally understand what my co-workers had done. They couldn’t let us know what they were working on at times due to security requirements.

I also read the good reports on what had caused aircraft crashes–pilot errors, mechanical failures, bird ingestion into engines, out of date and unsecured oxygen generation canister fires, icing conditions, multiple hydraulic system failures, etc. It didn’t give me a warm feeling when I took my next flight!

But we are still 1000 times more likely to die on the car ride to / from the airport–than in an aircraft accident. Life’s a C**P Shoot–or a probability game.
