Project Valour-IT Fundraiser
**Written by Doug Powers
Once again this year, as in the past, we’re proud to be representing the US Marine team taking part in the Project Valour-IT fundraising competition. This competition features four teams: The Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.
Here’s a brief explanation of what this great cause is all about:
Project Valour-IT, in memory of SFC William V. Ziegenfuss, helps provide voice-controlled/adaptive laptop computers and other technology to support Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines recovering from hand wounds and other severe injuries. Technology supplied includes:
Voice-controlled Laptops – Operated by speaking into a microphone or using other adaptive technologies, they allow the wounded to maintain connections with the rest of the world during recovery.
Wii Video Game Systems – Whole-body game systems increase motivation and speed recovery when used under the guidance of physical therapists in therapy sessions (donated only to medical facilities).
Personal GPS – Handheld GPS devices build self-confidence and independence by compensating for short-term memory loss and organizational challenges related to severe TBI and severe PTSD.
Click the “learn more” button to, well, learn more, or click the “give now” button to help the heroes who sacrifice so much to keep us secure and free:
The goal for Team Marine is now $25,000, but goals are made to be eclipsed, so let’s do it! Thanks for any help you can provide our men and women in uniform! The competition ends Veterans Day, November 11:
As a related item, Cassy Fiano has a great feature about UFC fighters experiencing US Marine training. I feel like a total wimp right now.

This is a project I enjoy every year.
Go Air Force.

C’mon, NAVY fans! Are you going to let a bunch of ground pounders show us up?
There are also items for auction on eBay with all proceeds to Project Valour-IT. For most items, the auction winner gets to pick which Team gets credit for the winning amount (on some items, the donor specified where the money goes).
One VERY cool item: We Were Soldiers Once… and Young, autographed by BOTH Joe Galloway & Hal Moore (the description only says Joe Galloway).
Oh God, it’s official… I’ve been hanging around computers far too long… thanks for the catch!
