‘President’s Accommodations Provided by the Beautiful Taj Mahal Hotel, Protection Courtesy of Fife Security’

Perhaps the most elaborate security measures ever planned are being implemented during President Obama’s visit to India. Nothing has been left to chance. Threats from sea, land, air, food and coconut are all being considered.

So far, however, it seems the greatest worry isn’t from outside threats, but from local security.

From the Daily Mail:

A policeman guarding Mr Obama’s Mumbai hotel set off a major security alert after accidentally shooting himself in the leg last night.

The gunshot sparked chaos as Secret Service agents rushed to protect the U.S. president.

An alert was sounded as Mr Obama, his wife and daughters were preparing for a private dinner inside the hotel.

The injured officer, Suhas Chowdhury, 49 – a 20-year veteran of the Mumbai police – had been guarding the perimeter of the hotel when his gun went off at the end of his shift.

Officer Chowdhury was then ordered to carry only a single bullet in his shirt pocket, and put back on duty.

Who knew that the Mumbai police had their own version of Joe Biden?

Spontaneous discharge? This guy has 20 years of experience? There is no excuse for a handgun going off accidentally. You never put your finger on the trigger until you are about to shoot. If it was a an ancient revolver with no safety features that would prevent the gun going off from bumping or dropping it, the hammer should have been resting on an empty chamber.

What kind of security people do they have over there?

It was scary in Army Basic Training at Ft. Ord, Ca. in 1964. Many draftees / enlistees knew nothing about guns. And some were high school dropouts who were dumb, unmotivated, careless, or all three.
    ***
They didn’t pay attention to the training sergeants. And after the daily rifle range practice the sarge would order all to clear their rifles. Then point down range and pull the trigger. Every few days a shot rang out! Followed by extra K.P. or guard duty for the perps.
    ***
The worst of all was one late afternoon marching back to the barracks. A rifle went off–amidst a 300 man company. Fortunately, nobody was hit.

Very funny cicerokid & chapoutier, and true. Now a little reminder of The Jerk/ONE whatever. Perhaps a future quote from our gilded Prez?

Huh? I am *not* a bum. I’m a jerk. I once had wealth, power, and the love of a beautiful woman. Now I only have two things: my friends, and… uh… my thermos. Huh? My story? Okay. It was never easy for me. I was born a poor black child. I remember the days, sittin’ on the porch with my family, singin’ and dancin’ down in Mississippi…

What strikes me about this is MO’s ugly plaid outfit and ridiculous little pink cardigan. Indian clothing is so beautiful. She couldn’t find time to choose a beautiful Churidar (Indian dress) for herself to honor the local culture?
These two are a collective international disaster.

I know what you mean. Have you seen any outfit mo had on that did anything for her? You would think those who make her outfits would try to make her look like a first lady of the U.S. not someone who went to a second hand store. I actually liked the ‘oil spill’ outfit better than what she is wearing on this trip.

vickisoup – I have a lovely sari a friend gave me. Some of the ladies had made fun of my Indian friend wearing them to company functions. For the next party I asked her to loan me one. I was terrified that one mistep could end up in a puddle of silk on the floor. Mrs. ‘Bambi would do well to invest in a few while there. They conceal a myriad of body flaws. ;)

I watched that interview too, and I disagree with you. He sounds to me like he heard the tea parties loud and clear. He also seems to know that you can’t eat an elephant in one bite. If the Rs try do everything at once they’ll frighten and anger people, much like Obama did. They have to start small if there is to be any chance of success. I’m willing to give them a chance.
Chris Wallace is a tough interviewer and that’s what we need-real journalists asking the tough questions, demanding real answers and holding the pols feet to the fire. If they can’t stand up to tough interviews they won’t stand up to the firestorm from the left that they’re about to face.

    I watched that interview too,

you may be right, I saw his reply to the Tea Party question as an avoidance of the answer, he did not come out and say the Tea Party is/was responsible for a lot of the good that came out of the elections. IMO if not for the Tea party many and I mean many of the future congresscriters would not be going if not for the Tea Party. No firm commitment if they deserve a leadership role. That’s what I wanted to hear, something like Ms. Bachmann should have a strong voice in the leadership role. Do you not agree with that? If not, I see why you disagree with my opinion.

As far as Wallace goes, seems to me he’s a lot harder on Republicans than Dems, rarely do you see him go after a dem over and over to get a reply to a tough question. I don’t mind the tough questions, we need those, just hold true to the Fox motto ‘Fair and Balanced’ in an interview.
