A History Lesson for Biden
**Written by Doug Powers
A couple of weeks ago, I highlighted this outrageous claim made by Sheriff Joe Biden:
“Every single great idea that has marked the 21st century, the 20th century and the 19th century has required government vision and government incentive,” he said. “In the middle of the Civil War you had a guy named Lincoln paying people $16,000 for every 40 miles of track they laid across the continental United States… No private enterprise would have done that for another 35 years.”
Some folks might think Biden’s claim is a stretch to say the least, but they may also assume that his transcontinental railroad example was valid evidence of successful “government vision and incentive.”
By way of Rick Snares, the Cato Institute put together a brief history lesson about the transcontinental railroad’s public sector vs. private sector players, which were the most successful in the long-term, and which were run into receivership in reasonably short order:

Errah,
Joe Biden: Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell No!
If it weren’t for the Union Pacific and BNSF, Amtrak couldn’t operate on the west coast.
That said, riding the Coast Starlight between LA and Seattle is simply one of the best rail adventures in the history of the world.
I felt like Eva Marie Saint in North By Northwest.
Without the land grants – a US Government program – the railroad would not have been built for at least 10 or 20 years.
Biden remains a dim-wit. His conclusion is right, but his logic is wrong.
With that said: Duh, roads – including railroads – are public goods. Thank you Captain Obvious.
The state builds roads. The state provides defense. The state puts out fires, manages air traffic, and used to educate our children.
Conservatives aren’t anarchists.
Where do these dim-wits breed? Can we get some air there?
Liberals think that the U.S. Government only stole land from the Indians. DUH!
Much better than riding from Seoul to Pusan. The bathroom on the train was a hole in the floor of the passenger car. You could see the tracks going by beneath you. No paper. Just a squat.
Speaking of rail, I love this story:
Here’s hoping that more states follow the leads of these two incoming Governors and not that of Illinois!
As practically every entry said in the first installment of The Joe Biden Comedy Hour, almost every usefull invention from the 19th and 20th centuries (and some way before that!) came from private enterprise without any gov’t assistance.
And as I said before, would someone please tell Biden to STFU.
First off, what new businesses are those? Does she means the startups that will go bankrupt in the first 6 months because the burden of Obamacare is too much? There won’t be any new business, you dunderhead!
Secondly, socialists see nothing wrong with the federal gov’t giving them funds for a high speed rail line that will lose money and cost the state millions every year in subsidies.
They’re so brain-dead. Just look at the public transit busses. In my town, I see these huge busses with two or three riders on them. I don’t recall every seeing more than 10 riders at any time. Usually, it’s just a few.
But public transportation works! Just ask Obrainless. He’s willing to spend zillions on high speed rail that will probably have few riders. Kasich and Walker are the intelligent ones. Obrainless is, well…brainless.
Joe Biden: A synonym for stupid.
As bad as Obama is, could you imagine this idiot is only a hear beat away from being President?
If the progs had been in charge when the railroads replaced stage coaches and covered wagons, Am-Hoof would be running stage lines and subsidised buggy whip manufacturing to this very day.
Railroads have a proud history, and are valuable movers of all sorts of freight,
and in some areas , passengers.
The need for intercity highspeed, and intra city light rail travel is overstated by people who hate, HATE the individual freedom that the auto provides.
Michael Medved has spoken a lot about the boondoggle of light rail in Seattle, and how the money could better alleviate traffic problems by building more highways.
In all seriousness, I can’t understand the reluctance of having Joe Biden assume the Presidency. Could he really be any worse than the current occupant? And in reality, Biden may be more intelligent than Obama. [Jobs a three letter word vs. the U.S. having 57 states]
Things we know:
Joe Biden is a prolific gaff machine, and a re-writer of history.
The liberal side of the aisle is filled with hypocrites, whose only constant, is the double standard.
The Democrat Party solution to everything is to tax…something, anything, then claim it wasn’t enough to fix the problem.
The liberals can be counted on to blame anyone but themselves for their failures.
The Democrat Party hates things it doesn’t control.
Liberals believe that since they can never win an issue using facts, the next best strategy is to demonize the opponent, and use ad hominem attacks.
ETC.
Joe Biden is remarkable in the deepth and breadth of his ignorance in the face of his (self) presumed knowledge. He really doesn’t realize what a buffoon he is, and how wrong he’s been, time after time, about nearly everything. No wonder he was elected and re-elected from Delaware for so long. They’re about as clueless as he is.
Dear Readers,
You do realize that we are talking about a man who was unceremoniously booted from his 1988 attempt at the US Presidency…because he was caught lying about his academic credentials?
Why would you ever believe him now?
This schmuck sits where he sits now, because of only one reason…Obama’s quest for the 2008 “Scranton” vote.
Pathetic.
PS – The State of Connecticut now owns a freshly-minted US Senator who has repeatedly lied about his US Military record…so where is Dan Rather when you need him?
Stay classy, Dems.
Biden’s assumptions are always that GOVT. grants entrepreneurs the right or privelege to create and make industry.
Biden’s entire life’s-view is from the perspective of Mommy or Daddy government being the catalyst.
What a load of crap.
But what is even worst and dismaying is that SO many people BELIEVE anything he says.

You would think that with a title of VPOTUS there would be one or two staffers in the research department available to pull together some gaff-free stats?
Let’s not forget the great moment that Joe “Bite Me” Biden told us about when he said FDR made a TV address to the American people on the verge of the Great Depression in 1929…
And Nancy Pelosi telling us we must pass the bill so we can find out what’s in it…these people are ignorant clowns, when they’re not stealing and spending taxpayer money like there’s no tomorrow.
No sane adult could possibly vote for any of them. No sane adult would tolerate their shenanigans. Unfortunately we have a lot of insane children who are in their adult years and old enough to vote…
History for a liberal, is whatever they say it is.This way, they think they sound intelligent and are never wrong. Biden believes he’s brilliant.
Bite-Me is a man of truly AWESOME stupidity!
The inventions that really define our lives today: the transistor, microchip, and laser from Bll Laboratories; the airplane from Orville and Wilbur Wright, two bicycle shop owners; the telephone and phonograph from Alexander Graham Bell; the light bulb from Thomas Edison; and, finally, this home computer on which I’m looking at this blog and typing this message was first invented by Dr Henry Edward Roberts. He called it the Altair 8800 and it sparked the home computer era. A man named Bill Gates wrote the software for it.
Many of our great military equipment began as private ventures. Samual Colt invented the revolver. A dentist named Richard Gatling invented a rapid-firing rifle that is still used today. John Browning was, and still is, our most prolific firearms designer. He designed the legendary M2 Browning Machine Gun. Eugene Stoner designed our M-16 rifle that we are still using. Even the Beretta Pistol that the Military carries was a private venture. In fact, Beretta Firearms company of Italy is the worlds oldest continuously operated company, having been founded in 1526.
Rather like the times the Communist claimed protoCommie Russians invented the telegraph, light bulb, fire and wheel.
We thought is was funny then, we think Biden is a joke now. Yes indeed we know “”Bite-Me is a man of truly AWESOME stupidity!”"

Don’t Leave home without it.
Progressives had always had a problem with history; much like they have a problem with the Constitution. Neither works in their favor.
Actually, it really depends on the city. Most of the eastern cities are 19th century cities. That is, they are vertical. Most of the western cities are 20th century cities. That is, horizontal. A good representation would be Boston and Los Angeles. I was speaking to a man who moved from Boston and he said the light rail and subway systems worked fine. He could walk a 1/4 mile from his house, get on the train, and it would take him to within a 1/4 of his work in downtown Boston. All well and good for what he needed.
But look at LA. It is so spread out. You can’t possibly put subways and light rail to reach everyone. The socialists think you can, but the intelligent folks know better. And LAs subway is pretty much a dead zone.
Of course the biggest hit against any public transportation scheme is that they just cannot provide door-to-door service. Never have, never will.
