   Much better than riding from Seoul to Pusan. The bathroom on the train was a hole in the floor of the passenger car. You could see the tracks going by beneath you. No paper. Just a squat.

   Wisconsin stands to receive $810 million to build a rail line between Madison and Milwaukee, but Governor-elect Scott Walker is refusing it.

   He estimates that the rail line will create an operating expense between $7.5 million and $15 million. That would be picked up by Wisconsin taxpayers. What Walker really wants is to improve aging infrastructure.

   “We have roads and bridges all across the country, certainly in Wisconsin, that need to be fixed, and I would hope the new Congress and certainly the Obama administration would give that a look,” he says.

   Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood responded to the concerns of the governors-elect with a couple of letters, telling them the stimulus dollars may not be diverted to roads and bridges.

   “None of those funds may be used for anything other than our high-speed rail program,” he wrote.

   In Illinois, which has already received $1.2 billion for high-speed rails, politicians are clamoring to lay down more tracks, Gov. Pat Quinn said.

   “If (Wisconsin’s) governor decides they don’t want $800 million from the federal government to build fast trains, we’re happy to take that,” Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin said, “I’ll tell you, some day in the future, Wisconsin and Ohio will look back and say, we missed an opportunity.”

   Wisconsin Rep. Gwen Moore agrees. She believes surrounding states will put in the rail lines, and new business will flock to them. The Dairy State will be left standing at the depot.

   “I don’t want to build a fence around Wisconsin where all of the commercial traffic and economic development stops at the Wisconsin border,” she says.

   Here’s hoping that more states follow the leads of these two incoming Governors and not that of Illinois!

   First off, what new businesses are those? Does she means the startups that will go bankrupt in the first 6 months because the burden of Obamacare is too much? There won’t be any new business, you dunderhead!

   Secondly, socialists see nothing wrong with the federal gov’t giving them funds for a high speed rail line that will lose money and cost the state millions every year in subsidies.

   They’re so brain-dead. Just look at the public transit busses. In my town, I see these huge busses with two or three riders on them. I don’t recall every seeing more than 10 riders at any time. Usually, it’s just a few.

   But public transportation works! Just ask Obrainless. He’s willing to spend zillions on high speed rail that will probably have few riders. Kasich and Walker are the intelligent ones. Obrainless is, well…brainless.

    Michael Medved has spoken a lot about the boondoggle of light rail in Seattle, and how the money could better alleviate traffic problems by building more highways.

    In all seriousness, I can’t understand the reluctance of having Joe Biden assume the Presidency. Could he really be any worse than the current occupant? And in reality, Biden may be more intelligent than Obama. [Jobs a three letter word vs. the U.S. having 57 states]

    Actually, it really depends on the city. Most of the eastern cities are 19th century cities. That is, they are vertical. Most of the western cities are 20th century cities. That is, horizontal. A good representation would be Boston and Los Angeles. I was speaking to a man who moved from Boston and he said the light rail and subway systems worked fine. He could walk a 1/4 mile from his house, get on the train, and it would take him to within a 1/4 of his work in downtown Boston. All well and good for what he needed.

    But look at LA. It is so spread out. You can’t possibly put subways and light rail to reach everyone. The socialists think you can, but the intelligent folks know better. And LAs subway is pretty much a dead zone.

    Of course the biggest hit against any public transportation scheme is that they just cannot provide door-to-door service. Never have, never will.
