Culture of corruption: Maxine Waters ethic trial delayed

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 19, 2010 02:31 PM

With Charlie Rangel’s ethics trial out of the way, it’s one wrist-slap down, one to go, for the Dems. But it looks like fellow Congressional Black Caucus member and entrenched race hustler Maxine Waters will have a little more time to wait.

The House Ethics panel says in a statement released this afternoon that new documents have been found. No new trial date has been set.

You can read the brief statement here.

“The Committee voted to recommit the matter regarding Representative Maxine Waters to the investigative subcommittee due to materials discovered that may have had an effect on the investigative subcommittee’s transmittal to the Committee.”

Let’s hope the new evidence is related to the Washington Times’ revelation that Waters co-sponsored legislation that directly benefited one of the top clients of a lobbying group that had her husband on the payroll.

The gears of the swamp-draining machine grind slowly, ever so slowly…

Why bother wasting funds on another useless trial, the outcome of which we pretty much know. Just type out the sternly worded form letter of rebuke on Congressional letterhead, hand deliver it to her and be done with it.

Let me guess, the new material implicates another member of Congress, who then would implicate another member of Congress, and on down the line which means they have to figure out how to sweep this under the rug by getting rid of the situation right before the Christmas break.

Fine… delay any ethic/ corruption trials in congress until after the new year.

    Then go for the jugular.

One thing is becoming clearer. And maybe Obama was right about one thing. The left and right are enemies. Act accordingly.

Of course there is another possible reason for the delay. The left has been dealt a blow and they need something to help them recover the lost ethusiam of their base. They know they don’t have any ideas that will make the economy better, put people back to work, etc. so they punt the Maxine Waters ethics trial to the next Congress. When the punishment comes down then they play the race card claiming that it is racist what the Republicans did to poor Maxine Waters and tell their base that if they need to get engerized in 2012 to make sure this kind of racism is not allowed to continue.

My guess is Rangel gets the maximum!…as in a strongly worded censure – Waters gets a wrist slap and remember Rep Eddie Bernice Johnson busted for giving govt. scholarships to her grandkids? I’ll bet she skates. Ethics are passe in Washington.

Perhaps it’s time to have financial background checks on the members of Congress, and their family members to see who has connections to businesses that the various committee assignments will have jurisdiction over.

It is obvious members cannot be trusted to voluntarily recuse themselves when possible conflicts of interest arise. Eliminating the possibility of conflicts before they arise should be the rule.

Stricter rules regarding lobbyists, and political contributions should also be enacted. Sound fiduciary practices are currently ignored in most cases.

Violations of law by members of Congress must be forwarded to the Justice Department. The only jurisdiction an Ethics Panel should have is the determination of “possible guilt,” and the manditory removal of those accused from their committee assignments. They have proven time and again that they cannot be objective in handing out punishment in an rational manner.

It should be a simple matter; remove the temptation to be dishonest.

It’s funny what a difference race makes. Air ace and hero Duke Cunningham ate his transgressions and respectfully left his seat to the clink without whining, yet we’re supposed to feel for arrogant Rangel’s crocodile tears from a Congressional district racially predisposed and stupid enough to back him even if he committed murder. I can’t prove it, but I bet there’s some deal underwarps between the slap on the wrist Charlie got and Maxine’s walk.

Probably actually lowered the bar at the end of a 27 year career, ironically, since he was defeated by Rangel in the 1970 Democratic primary after being hit by scandals — including putting his wife and girlfriend on the payroll.

yeah, just make copies of Rangel’s letter reflecting his bad behavior(breaking the laws). How many copies, that’s easy how many dems are in the house, then type in the appropriate name. Make some extra copies for the RINOs and it’s done.

There is a couple of people in the sub-sub-sub-committee that have worked their fingers to the bone gathering all of the needed information for months and then submit it up-line.
