Uplifting video of the day
As the wife of a long-distance runner, I’ve seen my fair share of amazing stories and races.
This one about California high school runner Holland Reynolds, who collapsed at her state cross-country meet just two yards from the finish line and crawled to the end to clinch a team championship, has to rank near the top of the list. Reynolds was inspired by her coach, who has Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Hat tip and video thanks to Jim Hoft:

Tough, guts and determination. Duress is a problem and not an excuse. God Bless.
Oh gosh, Michelle, now tears are coming. What a wonderful young lady!
L
“Can’t” is met with much rebuke in our home. Thanks for sharing this. Will pass it on.
Reminds me of this.
I can’t see youtube at work. TMT, is that the South African at the Olympics in the 80s? I remember that one. Heart wrenching.
Having participated in many races, both cross country and on the track, I’ve seen many more dramatic finishes than this by a runner who was barely able to make it across the finish line.
Kudos to her completing the race. Once you make a habit of not finishing, it can have a huge negative impact going forward, not only in competition, but in every day life.
Now here is a truly amazing and dramatic finish to a race, the 800m final at the USA 2008 Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWxiN2Hl61k
Remarkable effort on her part. Way to go!
And that was a great race AJ. What a kick. And what a race by the sophmore Wheating.
Thanks. For both videos.
Reminds me of in Basic Training. During our final Physical Fitness test before graduation one of the guys broke his ankle when he stumbled on a rock. He was on his last lap and in great shape time wise. He got up and hop/limped the last half of the lap to finish in time.
When asked why he did it he said that he asked himself what would he do if this happened in combat and knew that he would have to keep going. BTW this was at Fort Benning, GA (home of the infantry school)in May of 1992 for a bunch of 11B grunts.
Just saw that. Well done!
Very inspiring!
That’s true grit. It wasn’t just that she finished, but that she gave her all. Great video.
I’m a member of the LBJ club: I will not run again……
Inspiring video, Michelle. My sons mimic this young lady’s ordeal every time I ask them to mow the yard.
Holland Reynolds has enough heart and guts for TWO competitors.
TooMuchTime, those opposing players had enough respect for a worthy opponent for two teams.
I confess to being more concerned than inspired. I certainly would be very worried if I were her father and I hope she gets a thorough medical examination before continuing in these running events. I also am aware there are some parents, very few no doubt, who would urge her in the strongest terms to continue regardless of what the doctor advised.
Dexter Alarius, no, I believe it’s from a college game in Oregon.
Exactly. They knew she hit the homerun and deserved it. Doing anything less than what they did would have been the easy thing, not the right thing. Don’t forget, they lost game because of what they did.
Exhaustion is a crutch!!
That little girl, gots guts.
What an inspiring young lady. That’s what it takes! Congratulations to the runner, and to her team. May she recover fast. God bless!
That one got me crying…
Another awesome and current one for the season .

Ugh… cross-country …boy do I remember that feeling.
Especially one particularly humid day at one of my high school meets near Fort Bragg NC.
Runners were falling out all over the place.
American “can do” spirit is alive and well in San Francisco. It gives me hope.
Tears of pride, that young lady has heart! She can be on my team any time.
My running days are over, one too many jumps (skydiving), right knee pretty much shot.
Amazing fortitude for her coach and team.
A perfectly good airplane, and you jump out of it?
Henry Ford said it…”Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.
My running days are over, too. Both of them.
