WOT but here is the state of “moderate” Muslims around the world.
They are ambivalent about Hamas and reject Al Qaeda but what difference does that make? They advocate the same “Muslim-only” world.

The USO is an organization that I feel guilty for not supporting more. They do the most good for our military daily without desire for credit.
It’s a shame that our soldiers are fighting in a country that does not respect freedoms. We have over 100,000 soldiers some are dying in Afghanistan every day. . . and the guys we are fighting FOR has sentenced a Christian convert to death for converting from Islam (with the blessing of our ‘ally’).
All they are doing there is destroying. If our guys are over there, we won’t stop them from destroying each other, we’ll just be another thing for them to try to destroy. They aren’t interested in creating and building anything over there. 50 people died in a suicide bombing in Pakistan. FOR NO REASON! They didn’t gain anything. They just killed a lot of people.
We shouldn’t be there at all. We should leave and turn the lights out for Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia. If you go there, you can’t come here. Treat them like Cuba (who isn’t a threat to national security without USSR nukes).
I love our troops, and I love the USO. . . but I am tired of them dying for a government I wholeheartedly disapprove of in Afghanistan. . . if the Afghani government were in America, I’d be fighting against it too (for different reasons than Al Qaeda obviously).
God Bless our Troops. God bless the USO. May every soldier come back home safely.
The USO can do sooo much better than this. Otherwise, they do a fantastic job with what little they have. Anything for the troops is great. Hopefully the quality of the help won’t decline.

Somewhat off-topic, but I saw an ad yesterday for s Nickelodeon special that’s supposed to air soon and the special guest was that filthy gangster rapper Snoop Dogg. Wasn’t he making porn flicks a couple years ago? And now he’s making guest appearances on kids’ shows? What passes as entertainment these days is sickening.
Griffin is a Christianity and American hating harridan. Someone did some bad research signing her up.
Members of Kansas and Styx played my carrier in the 1980s, that was cool. And Pearl Bailey, mut have been over double the age of the average audience member, put on a rocking show and was well received.
Add Yemen to that list too. In Afghanistan over the weekend, someone went through the Afghani military training for the sole purpose of suicide bombing them. We don’t even know who the enemy is over there.
Before you fight a war, you need to know who you are fighting against. I am sick to death of the thought of another American soldier dying over there for THEM. not to mention how much of my hard earned tax dollars go to them while DC says they need more.
There are problems. We could solve lots of them by ending the Afghan war. Leave and turn out the lights. Half of our ‘friends’ there are double agents anyway so they’ll be fine. If we are worried about women’s rights, well we have domestic violence problems here in America too.
Our troops are supporting a religious apartheid with their lives and my tax dollars.
Kathy Griffin is a vile and ugly woman. Very glad our troops booed her plastic Botox arse off the stage! What a waste of oxygen.

If we cut off all trade and travel to and through the country it would have MORE effect than 200k troops there and cost less. It would be the most effective fence in the world. . . but the military is scared that they would lose funding and be seen as obsolete.

Kathy Griffin is an especially nasty person. She has been publicly trashing a doctor who supposedly mistreated her several years ago. It doesn’t dawn on her that nobody is interested in her private obsessions. Vindictiveness is the hallmark of her humor, if you want to call what she does humor. She has nothing in common with the troops. They didn’t ask for her, didn’t want her, but the liberal media will foist her on our troops.
I saw Bob Hope in one of his last comedy shows (not USO). He was well past his prime but still kind of funny and very sweet natured. I still remember his hilarious comment about Nixon’s golf game: “He dressed like Ben Hogan and played like Ben Gurien”!!!! Gentle humor, still funny!
I still support the USO and the vast majority of their entertainment for the troops remains of high quality. Griffin on the other hand…
Although I give her credit for her willingness to entertain the troops I will fault her greatly for her choice of material.

I grew up watching those Bob Hope specials where he highlighted his USO tours. Miss his annual Christmas specials too.
I’m sure many in the military do not constitute what would be her typical audience.

I understand your point, JHSII, but I think if we concentrated all our money, power, and efforts on keeping our own borders safe that we do on fighting people in caves that we can’t seem to find, we’d be better off in the long run. Not to mention that with better border security we wouldn’t have to worry about terrorists (or illegals) infiltrating our country. We’d kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak.

Each generation has their own set of entertainers. But sometimes, one comes along that spans multiple generations. Bob Hope is one of those.

There have been many good/great performers over the years to entertainmen our Troops that the Kathy error is so small given the entire time of the USO and other groups that have entertained.

I contribute regularly to the USO, if this is the best they can do I will send more to other military service supporting groups, such a Soldiers Angels or WWP.
American owes a great debit of gratitude to BOB Hope, he brought so much to the troops in their fight against our enemies over the decades he entertained.
My feelings of support for the war in Afghanistan is dwindling fast, I see no future in it. I don’t believe we can bring these people into the 20th century never mind the 21st.

Once we kicked out the Taliban we should have left. I am convinced the tribes could and would defend themselves. Once we had the Pakis by the short hair THAT is where we should have put pressure. But putting a foreign army in Afghanistan has never been particularly easy. Insisting on a Western style government probably wasn’t overly bright either.

Actually, if he’d said it’d be anything less than that length of time I would’ve been in favor of not going at all. Afghanistan is, has been and shall always be a long-term reclamation project for anyone who tries to drag the locals out of the seventh century. It will take decades to get them out of their medieval “comfort zone,” if it’s possible at all.
Not committing to a timetable is simply being honest.
It’s when somebody tells me that we’ll be in and out in less than a year – like Bill Clinton did in Bosnia – that my BS detector goes on alert.

Accusing the men in the military of being cold and so superficial is callously “ignorant” (your word).
It is clear you have no idea, none whatsoever, as to who are on the staffs making the difficult choices regarding budgets and hardware acquisitions, and you have no idea of the process and who actually makes the final decisions (and it isn’t the men in uniform).
The staffs are made up of combat vets, men that served in theater and many are wounded vets as well.
Moreover, they KNOW the men in the field, as many are friends and many have family in theater. They also know that what they buy now means they will have to use that kit in future.
But yet you attack them for being more concerned about being seen as “obsolete.”

I was fortunate enough to attend 2 of Bob Hope’s shows during my 3 tours in Viet Nam. They were always awesome and uplifting and made me proud to be an American serving my country.
The difference shown by the troops in these 2 USO clips reminded me of the difference in how my current fellow Marines greeted our last and current Presidents.
You’ve got to take 2 minutes to watch this comparison between one of George Bush’s visits to the Marines vs. one of Obama’s visits. It is an incredible example that says so much more than any words can express.

The mission eternally changes. We didn’t go in to ‘help’ Afghanistan. We went in to NEUTRALIZE Osama Bin Laden and the Al Qaeda threat.
It was and still continues to be ridiculously stupid for us to use a ‘coalition force’ that includes ANYONE from Pakistan. We would have finished Bin Laden and the war in Tora Bora if we ran the entire operation with Americans instead of letting Pakistan ‘guard’ the back door.
This exercise has been futile from the beginning because there was no defined mission. By the end of Bush’s presidency, it was so obvious that even his justification was that we were fighting for ‘Afghan women’. Sorry, why aren’t we fighting for Sudan women?
We could neutralize the threat without putting our men in harms way. They exist on funding from the government. NO government entity EVER says they want less from the budget. Fighting a war ensures that military spending is a huge part of the budget. Solving the problem without the military would cost less to the nation.
I’d rather spend our military budget on salaries and military health care instead of bullets and funerals. We CAN solve this problem without the military. It’s not a difficult problem to solve. We just have war mongers that think getting our guys killed is the ONLY solution.

That depends on what you define as being the problem. If the problem is the increasing power of militant Islam in the world, then no, we cannot solve it without the military.
The current solution is a solution to a crime problem, not a solution to the clash between civilization and the savage political ideology/culture/religion fools and snakes call the Religion Of Peace.
On another note, the USO has sent some quality entertainers to the gulf during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I saw Chuck Norris, Ted Nuggent (though he got banned from coming back for saying something about wanting to go Bow hunting for terrorists), and many many country acts.
Griffin must have been desperate to do the USO. I didn’t think she had any regard for the troops. Guess her career , if she ever had one, is headed off a cliff.

The USO has millions upon millions of dollars to operate with, yet they can’t seem to get it right in the area of entertaining our troops. When I was an active duty Marine, I recall them showing up only once in my three year tour for only a few hours, and with no bands at all.
Recently, I approached the USO to possibly partner up with us in producing what we clearly KNOW will be morale boosting concerts yet there was NO RESPONSE.
As a professional musician with many musical friends and contacts in many different genre’s, including Grammy Award winners, there’s NO DOUBT in my mind that we can produce much, much better quality musical entertainment entertainment than the USO ever will yet they have millions and millions of dollars and we can barely keep a Post Office box open due to severe lack of funding in a horrible economy.
If we had the million$ to operate with that the USO has, I’d truly love to have a battle of the bands between just about anything they’d ever produce and the REAL, world class musical talent that’s just waiting to perform for our troops with ConcertsForTroops.org and I can promise you that the troops will enjoy what we will be putting down MUCH more as the shows will be produced by REAL MUSICIANS, not by people who have no talent themselves. It really does make a huge difference and you can hear it clearly. For example, when my own music group performed at Walter Reed on the very same stage as the world famous musical acts The Beach Boys, John Mellencamp, Tim McGraw, Lieutenant Dan Band (actor Gary Sinise) and more, I got this comment back in an email:
“Blues Unchained is the most popular, highly requested group that any of the events have drawn”
It completely validates what we’re trying to do as veterans and musicians to maintain and boost troops morale, yet we can’t even operate at a minimal level, and no help from the USO has been forthcoming.

Bob Hope was a class act. Too bad there aren’t any left today.
I love Bob Hope’s humor. I saw him live in the mid 80′s, and he was more crude that you might imagine.
For his decades of service with the USO, Bob Hope was declared an Honary Veteran. He’s the only civilian to be so honored. The Navy even has a transport ship named the USS Bob Hope.
I once read an account during WW2, Bob was entertaining troops in Italy. One unit marched overnigh to go see his show, only to arrive too late. The CO sent a note to Bob saying they were sorry they missed it, then began the long march back to their duty station. After a while, and they were still marching, they heard some trucks coming. It was Bob Hope. He actually brought his show to THEM.
Now, he’s entertaing the angels.

I really don’t think this is fair to the USO. Kathy Griffin was ONE bad choice, true, but they’ve had lots of good ones over the years. Griffin can even be funny when she isn’t trying to make political hay. Not sure who she thought her audience was…
Recently the USO has featured Trace Atkins, Toby Keith, Kellie Pickler, Katy Perry… sports figures, heck dozens of great people. Don’t slam them too hard for one poor choice.
I saw a television ad for this show, and my gag reflex turned on when I heard Griffin’s name mentioned. This does not surprise me in the least. I heard her mentioned in another post alongside Joy-less Behar–Griffin is certainly in the same boat as that vile, reprehensible person.
There’s no denying it – even with the red dye job – Andy Griffith has really let himself go.
I was thinking more along the line of Andy Dick!
