Filibuster-mania: Socialist Bernie Sanders blocks Senate tax deal

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 10, 2010 02:30 PM

It’s hour five of FiliBernie! — the class war demagogue Bernie Sanders’ filibuster of the tax deal on the Senate floor.

You can watch it streaming live at C-SPAN.

Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu joined in briefly to declare that while she hasn’t taken a stand on the bill, she’ll vote “loudly” however she decides.

Ok.

My question is whether any Republicans can get it on the action and provide some counterbalance. The “Wall Street greed” diatribes are getting noxious.

Just waiting for Sanders to drag out Democrat Rep. Joe Crowley’s photo of Leona Helmsley’s dog. 3,2,1…

***

Update 2:34pm Eastern. Sanders just called America’s wealth producers “crybabies.” Is Senate GOP going to let this go unanswered?

These socialist morons actually believe that if the tax rate was 100%, the tax revenue would go up. They have no comprehension of the Laffer Curve or the fact that if a worker has 100% taken from him in taxes, he’ll just stop working. If you take 100% from business, they’ll close down. The more you raise the tax rates the greater the chance that revenue will drop because the tax payers will just stop. Everything.

Spend less!! When I was a stay at home mom, raising my four children, I had to fit the household budget to meet my husband’s income. I see that the Senate is up to it’s usual bribes for votes again as Reid makes sure that there are some in the tax cut extension bill:

Among the extra provisions are a tax credit for biodiesel, a tax credit for ethanol, extensions of tax credits for energy-efficient homes and appliances, and credits for training mine rescue teams.

It would allow millions of dollars worth of expensing for film and production companies doing work in the United States, give breaks for the rum trade in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, provide incentives for investment in the District of Columbia and provide other benefits for the battered Gulf coast.

The 45-cent-per-gallon ethanol subsidy alone, extended through 2011, was estimated to cost about $5 billion. The issue is of particular interest to lawmakers from Midwestern states with grain crops.

Makes me wonder whether or not the R’s will filibuster this bill come Monday or if they will still vote Yea on it?

For the most part this is Reid letting the Dems vent their frustrations today, so hopefully they will vote for it on Monday.

and there will be costs associated with switching from the current tax rates to the pre-Bush rates, and then back to the pre-Bush rates.

There are plenty of costs that we will all burden within the bill itself. As I posted earlier there has been tons of earmarks added to this bill to get votes. I would rather deal with the costs of having to switch back and forth with the tax rates then to be stuck with a long term crap sandwhich I have to digest for years!

Bernie isn’t a Democrat, but now an Independent formerly the Senate’s only registered Socialist. The most progressive people in the Senate (on economic policy) have drawn their proverbial ‘line in the sand’ and will not willingly go along with this tax agreement they were not even consulted in, in making. Obama *ASSumed* that he could get all on the Dem/left side of Congress to go along, but he miscalculated that some of the strongest opposition to his tax cut deal would come from those very close to his own ‘camp’ of thinking… I doubt Reid had much to do with Sanders filibuster if anything.

Bernie is the most honest member of Congress. He’s a socialist and is proud to not only admit it, but to proclaim it and campaign as one. I’d love to see him defeated, but Vermont may be the only state in the country where the population is nearing 100% Marxist. However, in the current situation, he’s in the position of being one really useful idiot, and I’ll cheer him as long as he maintains his filibuster, no matter how much I detest the content of what he’s saying.

I agree that Obama thought that he could just tell the Dems/Lefties to vote for it and they would. What I am pointing out is that Reid had already scheduled a vote for Monday meaning this fillibuster is more of a show than anything.

Reid figures let Bernie, and any other Dems/Lefities, vent today and possibly over the weekend so come Monday they will go along with the vote. He figures if he lets them have their moment now it will help him to hold things together next year when every Dem/Left vote will not be able to be spared.

I dont know if this thinking will work, but that is what I figure is going on….why else has Reid not called for a cloture vote to end the fillibuster?

Note she already took their money and she decides whether to give them any. This is the mantra, its the governments money and they just let you keep some. They decide how much to give you and how much the government will keep. Totally bass ackwards.

Plus, what economic reason or study that supports the “million dollar” mark where people should pay more? Or did she just pull that number out of her arse because she can use it for class warfare? What a loser.

Bernie Sanders imagines himself to be morally superior by advocating higher rates of government theft from those who already pay 70+% of the total tax burden.

Right, because it’s not like people in government ever get greedy or anything.

I realize that this is a long shot but is it possible that Obama is about to step down?

That isn’t a long shot. A long shot is trying to win the lottery. This is more like the odds against a bolt of lightning striking the ocean and spontaneously creating life.

I guess this means that Hillary is running in 2012. Bill be running the WH for the next 2 years “triangulating” while the TOTUS vacations.

I wonder why Bill doesn’t just run instead. The Dems proved that they can’t get all that excited about Hillary. But Bill knows how to play them. Even the Black Caucus would run to Bill.

It was almost as though an abdication to the Clintons had taken place…

There was Bill in the WH briefing room telling the reporters that to better understand the current situation they needed to look back to a speech given by FDR at Choate “before he got polio” in 1927 analyzing the challenges for “progressives”…

Personally, I don’t think Owebowmao’s ego will let him quit. He’s not done “transforming” us yet.
If Hillary wants the nomination in 2012, she’ll leave as SoS sometime next year to set up a run. I don’t think she will, but if she does, it will be nastier than last time, bet on it.

Talking about lame-duck, it must be great to be M Steele, travel around the country on a paid book tour and then sit at home with a RNC hotshot title while the paychecks get direct deposited.
I had such high hopes from him.
Dam, I used that word HOPE while referring to a Republican.

McConnell must not have noticed the election last month, we’ll have to wait till ’14 to nail him to the wall. I did send him a reminder of this, not the it will do any good. He’s no more than a “good ol pal” repukian. Another waste of good air.
