Coming Soon: ‘Democrats’ — A Steven Spielberg Production

By Doug Powers  •  December 22, 2010 09:43 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

Consistent with the claim that Democrat setbacks have been a problem with messaging rather than voters rejecting their policies, it’s being reported that Nancy Pelosi is turning to Hollywood for (more) help:

Midway through Philip Rucker and Paul Kane’s story about Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s transition to minority leader comes an interesting bit of news. The California Democrat, vilified by Republicans in the last election, has turned to director Steven Spielberg for help rebranding House Democrats.

Lawmakers say she is consulting marketing experts about building a stronger brand. The most prominent of her new whisperers is Steven Spielberg, the Hollywood director whose films have been works of branding genius. Lawmakers said Spielberg has not reported to Pelosi with a recommendation.

Given how last month’s election turned out for the Dems, the perfect choice for someone to put their story to celluloid would have been Irwin Allen, but unfortunately he’s no longer with us.

What might Spielberg’s production dedicated to House Democrats be titled? “San Fran Nan and the Temple of Doom”? “Tax Me If You Can”? “Jurassic Pork”? “Close Encounters With the Third World”? “Dude, Where’s My Gavel?” Time will tell.

Update: Doug Ross spotlights something Spielberg might consider using as a logo for the new Democrats — which is, fittingly, just a re-branded logo of the same old Democrats.

Update II: That was fast — Spielberg’s already finished his first production (as inspired by Bloodthirsty Liberal):

null

Update III: Spielberg’s rep says he’s not going to re-brand the Dems — give them lots of money, yes, but re-brand, no.

Could it be that even Steven Spielberg isn’t creative enough to want to tackle a re-write of a script that’s as unsalvageable as Nancy Pelosi’s?

    Perfect selection to do the re-branding. Steven
    Spielberg has one of the most creative minds for fiction and illusion, the world has ever known.

    He and San Fran Nan have many things in common;

    they’re very wealthy,

    both feel a tremendous amount of guilt because of their fortunes;

    they both have extravagant homes, and (non-union) housekeepers;

    they both enjoy expensive Napa wines;

    both are dependant on taxpayers to fund their lifestyles;

    both have succeeded greatly in the capitalist system they abhor; and,

    they both love aliens, and used them to expand their careers: him extraterrestrial, her illegal.

    I wonder if he’ll get creative license when crafting this sure-to-be blockbuster epic of fantasy?

    Friend, we listen to our conservative celebrities because they are so RARE.

    For every conservative celebrity, there are 1000 pompous, arrogant narcissists that believe they are the center of a socialist universe.

    Let us see how the liberal socialist message was received in the rest of the world.

    Mao – 50 million dead
    Stalin – 20 million dead
    Hitler – 10 million dead
    Pol Pot – 2 million dead

    Three generations of the Kims in North Korea, Castro, Che, Mugabe…plus all of Eastern Europe. We’ll never know how many really died, but it’s probably over 10 million more.

    Yeah. It really is how the “message” is “received.” There are about 100 million people that got the liberal socialist message loud and clear.

    Notice how it’s always left-wing liberal socialism that attracts the mass murdering dictators like moths to a light? And when they get elected in a free country, they immediately set about destroying that freedom and replacing it with socialism?

    Uh, sorry but you are mistaken on this. You CAN make sewage stink less with better marketing. In fact, with a proper marketing budget you could make people believe sewage actually smells good.

    And if you REALLY have the budget available you could, in a few weeks time, convince people that they should wear raw sewage on their shoes and in their hair and that it was good.

    Yes. Because they don’t believe in God, they fundamentally reject the truth that our Christian founders found to be “self-evident”:
    that life itself is a God-given (endowed by our Creator) unalienable right.

    And governments are instituted among men to secure, not take away, the unalienable right to life.

    And when they get elected in a free country, they immediately set about destroying that freedom and replacing it with socialism?

    Why do socialists despise freedom, liberty, and opportunity so much?

    The answer lies in which god they serve…

    “Yes, We Can!” –> “¡Sí se puede!” –> Alinsky Radicals –> Lucifer

    And oh, by the way, while Pelosi claims to be a Catholic, she supports the murder of unborn children and she has a history of fabricating Bible verses.

    Their plan isn’t to destroy all business.

    Their plan is to destroy all small and medium-sized businesses via oppressive regulation (example: ObamaCare), and then nationalize all of the big businesses.

    We’ve already seen that Wall Street companies that weren’t on the leftist’s “good side” (like Bear Sterns and Lehman Brothers) were forced out of business, while those on the leftist’s “good side” were bailed out or given other advantages.

    Communist Revolutionaries have a long history of imprisoning and executing the “counter-revolutionaries” who oppose them.

    Listen to one who speaks from intimate first-hand knowledge:

    I know what I am talking about, because I was on the side of the aggressor before I decided to take YOUR side. I do not believe– I KNOW that in this war no one is being “liberated, decolonised or made equal,” as Soviet doctrine proclaims. You may notice, if you give yourselves the trouble to observe, that the only “equality” and “liberation” this war produces is the equality of death and the “liberation” from freedom.

    You have too many concrete examples of what Communist “liberation” has done for other countries to believe that I am wrong when I warn you that we are on the brink of disaster. From one that has lived, worked and seen first-hand the realities of day to day life in a communist/ socialist state– you must wake up now and start defending the rights and freedoms you now have. No matter how many problems you think the U.S. may have, believe me when I say that they are nothing in comparison to the troubles you will experience if the U.S. continues to agree and sympathize with communist/ socialist doctrines.

    Given how the entire conservative movement is based around polemicists who make millions off their inflammatory rhetoric, and gives ridiculous lip service to conservative celebrities, it seems somewhat hypocritical for the right to criticize liberals for paying attention to how their message is received.

    As an independent, I realize both sides make money off of offensive rhetoric. Al Sharpton, Keith Olbermann and C. “thrill up my leg” Mathews all say the crap they do because they know Hannity, Beck, Levin and Limbaugh will broadcast it in sound-bytes.

    So don’t give us this left-wing crap about how it’s just conservatives.

    Once again, RSS, you’ve shown why independents have flocked nearly 3:1 republican. All your side knows how to do is blame conservatives and point the finger at them.

    You have absolutely no substantive argument whatsoever.

    Two quotes from Davy Crocket that we should have our Senators and Congressment follow religiously:

    We have the right as individuals to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right to appropriate a dollar of the public money.
    Davy Crockett

    We must not permit our respect for the dead or our sympathy for the living to lead us into an act of injustice to the balance of the living.

    And one quote that pretty much sums up the way I feel about the current administration and it’s minions:

    You may all go to Hell, and I will go to Texas.
