Pelosi: Can You Spare $10 to Protect the Progress We’ve Made?

By Doug Powers  •  December 28, 2010 01:32 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

If you were on the receiving end of this letter, it must have been a little like getting a plea for reinforcements from Custer the day after Little Bighorn:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has an outgoing New Year’s Eve wish, asking House campaign supporters to give money to fight back against “shameful attack ads” that use her to target vulnerable Democrats.

In a new fundraising letter for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Californian thanks donors for their “dedication to making change a reality for millions of our fellow Americans,” without mentioning that Democrats lost control of the House in November and that in less than two weeks, Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) will become Speaker.

Instead, Pelosi asks donors to “chip in $10” to combat “shadowy special interest front groups [that] are already up on radio and television with shameful attack ads aimed at reversing the progress we’ve made.”
[...]
Donations before the Friday deadline will be matched “dollar-for-dollar by a group of generous Democrats,” she added.

Pelosi led the charge to accumulate $3,220,103,625,307.29 of new debt in the last two years alone and she wants people to pony up ten bucks so they can try to double-down? The word? No!

Just to put $3.22 trillion in a language the No Radish Left Behind crowd can understand, that Pelosi-assisted new debt amounts to almost 22 times what some say are obesity-related health care costs in the US every year — a number that’s used as justification for increased oversight of Big Chef. If the Let’s Move types really want to trim the fat, they’re starting inside the wrong beltway.

Nah, there are new scientific methods to determine whether or not she is a witch. First you get a duck and then you get a giant set of scales. You then check to see if she weighs as much as a duck. If she does then she is a witch. Monty Python figured that out a long time ago in the quest for the Holy Grail.

But if we fall, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.

Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth lasts for a thousand years, men will still say, “This was their finest hour!”

We could change a few words – as noted, and it is just as applicable today. A few other chances and it could be made into a staement against liberals and programs run amok at the cost of freedom, liberty, and dare I say, the very basis on which the greatest nation the world has ever known was founded.

I’m sorry, I seem to recall death panels….er.um, I mean “end of life counselors” and connections to the 1930s Eugenics movement that wanted to sterilize all mentally ill people.

But I’m guessing the Maryland newspapers won’t report on it. Might make big ol Barb out there look bad.

    Gotta love that liberal compassion.

And for the rest, just make sure you don’t get sick or hurt.

Then you aren’t looking hard enough.

Golly gee, I was hoping you’d provide me with some examples. After all, the first reply liberals make in an argument is point at the GOP and say “See! They do it!” Doesn’t matter how stupid it is, liberals just want to feel included and to show the world they can take something and make it better, which of course, invariably means it gets much, much worse.

I don’t know either whether they backed the law or why they asked for an exemption.

Sure you do, Chap! The Unions were all for this crap! And Mickey D’s, well, they had to get an exemption or thousands of their people would LOSE health coverage under the great Pelosi/Reid/Obama plan to cover everyone. In fact, over 215 companies had to.

I also don’t know why anyone would think that it is inconsistent to generally support a law but recognize that exemptions and exceptions are sometimes necessary and wise.

    (laughs)

But it was supposed to be free/affordable (mostly free) health care for all! It was going to solve ALL the problems and make everyone feel good, get well and all that other liberal fluff stuff.

Both your assumptions and your recollections are faulty.

After all, the first reply liberals make in an argument is point at the GOP and say “See! They do it!”

My argument isn’t with politicians on either side. My argument is with your delusion that only one side engages in any sort of political activity.

Let me help you out. Saying that ANYONE in any position of authority was claiming that health care would be “mostly free” and that it was going to solve all the problems and make everyone feel good is the very definition of “strawman.” Distort the other side’s position into an absurdity and attack that rather than the actual argument. And volia. A strawman.

You’ve stuck your foot in it and just can’t let it go.
