Obama jobs death toll: Killing the drilling industry

You already knew that the election-season “lifting” of President Obama’s deepwater drilling moratorium was a sham announcement. Loathsome cowboy Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and radical eco-czar Carol Browner have lied through their teeth from day one about the rationale and impact of their job-killing policies not only on deepwater drilling, but shallow drilling, tourism, and the entire Gulf Coast economy.

Here’s more evidence of their destruction via the WSJ:

More than two months after the Obama administration lifted its ban on drilling in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico, oil companies are still waiting for approval to drill the first new oil well there. Experts now expect the wait to continue until the second half of 2011, and perhaps into 2012.

…the delay is hurting big oil companies such as Chevron Corp. and Royal Dutch Shell PLC, which have billions of dollars in investments tied up in Gulf projects that are on hold and are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars a day for rigs that aren’t allowed to drill. Smaller operators such as ATP Oil & Gas Corp., which have less flexibility to focus on projects in other regions, have been even harder hit.

The impact of the delays goes beyond the oil industry. The Gulf coast economy has been hit hard by the slowdown in drilling activity, especially because the oil spill also hurt the region’s fishing and tourism industries. The Obama administration in September estimated that 8,000 to 12,000 workers could lose their jobs temporarily as a result of the moratorium; some independent estimates have been much higher.

The slowdown also has long-term implications for U.S. oil production…

This is unconscionable.

As they return to Washington this week, House Republicans should be putting Salazar/Browner and the White House War on Jobs on the hot seat every chance they get.

Not exactly. Stop any American drilling at any costs.

Other countries going to town deep water drilling like crazy in the Gulf is perfectly A-O.K., especially if they’re sucking up all of the oil from fields we could be drilling from, too.

This is part of the Obama crowd’s redistribution thinking. Better the oil and wealth go into the hands of Cuba and China than to Rich, Imperialist America.

Seriously. Democrats are all traitors. Especially the trash that votes Democrat.

They would be if a republican were president, if for no other reason than the media and democrat politicians would be urging them to do so. But in truth only a few care about unemployment when the democrats are in power. Let’s face it: we are all democrats now.

I am reminded of a recent quote from Mark Steyn (concerning all the carrying on regarding the DADT repeal).

I think this is the triumph of the elite’s moral vanity over any sense of priority. You think what they think of the United States in the capitols of the world. We’ve got 10% unemployment, but we’re talking about gays in the military. This is a classic Western narcissism in the late twilight of the West, where we solve bogus problems, and congratulate ourselves for them, rather than addressing real issues.

I cannot help but note the number of small oil developers that are going bankrupt. Unlike the Exxons of the World, they are small exploration companies with all their interests tied up here in the US market. They do not have other World assets to tie them over until they are allowed to work.

They hire from 40 to a 1000 skilled employees. Once those jobs are gone and the employees move on, those jobs will ‘not’ return.

We often hear how Democrats fear large oil. Well, Obama is killing small oil and large oil may be the only thing to survive.

Yup…I remember full-service stations, at least 2 on every major intersection competing in “gas wars” and gas sometimes going for $0.17.9 a gallon in the early ’60s. My dad would regularly ask for “$2.00 worth” when filling up, and that would give him about half a tank.

I never knew the cheapskate to actually have a full tank in our family’s car…which more than once led to us being stranded on empty while dad trotted off to the nearest gas station with the empty gas can he kept in the trunk.
