Schwarzenegger: Governorship Cost Me $200 Million

Arnold should look at this from the fiscally optimistic end of things: He didn’t cost himself $200 million, he saved the movie-going public $200 million.

From Reuters:

Serving as California governor cost Arnold Schwarzenegger at least $200 million, the bodybuilding star turned actor and politician told a newspaper in his native Austria, insisting ‘it was more than worth it.”

Counting expenses and lost income from acting in Hollywood films, “in all it is probably more than $200 million,” he told Krone when asked how much his two terms in Sacramento had cost.

During his eight years in office, Schwarzenegger and family scraped by on their savings, his governor’s salary, and contributions collected from good samaritans who sent money in return for Arnold’s promise to never make a sequel to Jingle All the Way.

Speaking about how much time Schwarzenegger had to spend away from his family and how difficult it was, the environmentally-conscious actor/politician who has expressed an interest in joining Team Obama to help fight climate change said this:

“It was heartbreaking every time,” said Schwarzenegger, a Republican who served as governor from 2003 until early this month. “In my second term of office, I did better. I tried to fly home every evening.”

Schwarzenegger’s enduring political legacy in California may be his innate ability to talk about his life in a way to which the common man (and Al Gore) can easily relate.

He made clear his opinion that his best accomplishment was the legislation that will limit carbon use and “global warming gases” in CA which has been independently analyzed to create many BILLIONS of lost income and hundreds of thousands of lost jobs in CA as it is implemented. Because CA has to show the world how to be green. Idiot.

It reminds me of Obama’s whining about how hard it is to be President and how there is so much to do. Any sentient being would know that ahead of time – you ran for it, you won, now shut and deal with it. Sheesh.

I think he is vastly over-rating his box office appeal these days. No one wants to see and old and flabby Arnold spouting ignorant monosyllabic dialogue. The reason the original Terminator was vastly superior to the sequels despite improving story lines and better and better FX was because Arnold hardly spoke in the original. Today, he could be replaced by a much better CG replica.

There is about as much interest among movie goers for seeing an old Arnold today as there is for seeing an old Brigitte Bardot.

Oh you don’t mean that kind of flying? But surely he did so under his own power to cut down on CO2 right? Right?

Maybe $200 million is the going price for being governor. Meg Whitman spent $160 million and lost. He may have overpaid but $200 million is probably close to the optimum number.

Come on, he married into the Kennedy family!! Surely that provided him with some additional income… (because they surely don’t qualify as good samaritans).

Never saw Terminator, but I rented and enjoyed “Kindergarten Cop.”

Arnold was a sore disappointment as Gov. I voted for him with high hopes after getting Davis out. But the first time he lost his pet propositions he folded like a cheap suit.

HOWEVER, let’s set the record straight – Arnold never accepted the governor’s salary during any of the 8 years (and the salary is $175,000 a year).

as a conservative who was always weary of Arnie (as a pol), let me remind the GOP Republicans not to jump so quickly onto the bandwagon of “Republican” politicians. Too many times we’ve heard the “so and so for President” mantra before people are proven in office. Arnold is one (there were Republicans supporting changing the constitution for him if I remember correctly), Scott Brown, and others who said some popular things but hadn’t yet proven themselves as capable, conservative leaders.

Conservatives are desperate for a true conservative leader, but too often “we” fall into the 24-hr news cycle marketing of candidates who do not deserve such fervent support so immediately.

These pols must be thinking, “why buy the cow if the milk is free?”

I’ve often thought this about many of our recent movie stars. Back in the days of the great studios, many would consider themselves lucky if they were allowed to appear in “C” movies as extras…Ahnold would’ve had a career of playing one of Emperor Ming’s henchmen.

I hope it costs him his entire career. it is not like he was ever a good actor, he just happened to be in the right place at the right time with a drug induced oversized body. Every movie he was ever in was written specifically to conform with his inability to act.
