Harry Reid Tells the Truth, Quickly Recants

One frustrating thing about being a liberal in Congress is that if you do happen to accidentally tell the truth, it does nothing but get you into trouble:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) labeled Chinese President Hu Jintao a “dictator,” just as President Barack Obama prepares to host the Chinese leader on Wednesday at a state dinner aimed at soothing tensions between the two world powers.

Reid’s off-the-cuff comments came Tuesday night during a televised interview with Las Vegas journalist Jon Ralston, who asked the majority leader whether the bipartisan tax compromise Obama struck with Republican leaders last year was a good deal for the country.

“I am going to go back to Washington and meet with the President of China. He is a dictator. He can do a lot of things through the form of government they have.

Reid quickly realized that his flirtation with the truth had rounded third base, so obviously some backpedaling was in order:

Maybe I shouldn’t have said dictator, but they have a different type of government then we have, and that is an understatement,” Reid said in the interview.

Dare to dream, Harry.

It’s a good thing the host had to break for commercial, because Reid was about to refer to Hu as “light skinned with no Mandarin dialect.”

So Harry Reid wants to call him something else, something nicer sounding. Is that so when the Dems try it here they will already have a PC word for dictator in place.

Like murder? How many people is Harry willing to kill to get his dictatorship so he can “do a lot of things”?

Communist regimes all came to power through mass murder. Yes, murder, not killing of soldiers during a war to gain control but killing of unarmed civilian people that disagree with them by the millions. See Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, et al.

People in America don’t seem to understand how the rest of the world deals with respect and diplomacy. While the highest form of debate and discussion in America might be to call someone a name or insult them, Chinese don’t respond to that at all. It makes the person calling the name (even if right) seem out of order.

We can control China by releasing Japan to build their own military. We could have MORE leverage if we had fought the Af/Pak war with an Indian ally that could counterbalance China.

The bottom line is we want Americans to be successful, and we want Chinese to be successful. The only problem America has with China is that our government won’t live within their means and China gives us the money.

Seemingly every few weeks a New York Times writer can’t curb his enthusiasm for China’s dictatorship. The Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Thomas Freidman, who should be a candidate for honorary membership on the Politburo, has exulted: “One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks, but when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages.”

If you listened to the Obama/Hu press conference, Hu left no doubt that Reid is right. Obama appealed to Hu to respect human rights and the rule of law. Hu’s response was not that different from a Hugo Chavez rant where he chastised America to “respect, respect, respect…” others.

This was a demonstration to the world that China is now dominant over America, if not yet economically and militarily, then diplomatically on the world stage. This cannot go unanswered.

Unfortunately, our one-party system is going to meekly crawl away.
