The Philadelphia Horror: How mass murder gets a pass

The “fetal material”-stuffed freezer at Philadelphia’s “Women’s Medical Society”
The mainstream news reports about Philadelphia’s serial baby-killer Kermit Gosnell and his abortion clinic death squad only scratch the surface of his barbaric enterprise. You must, must, must read the entire, graphic, 281-page grand jury report (embedded after my column below) to fully fathom the systematic execution of hundreds of (not just seven) healthy, living, breathing, squirming, viable babies — along with an untold number of mothers who may have lost their lives in his sick, grimy chamber of horrors as well. It is explicit. It is enraging. It will haunt you.
Ask yourself why you are not hearing about which root causes and whose rhetoric are to blame for this four-decades-long massacre — just the tip of a blood-soaked iceberg defended by the predators of Planned Parenthood. You know the answer: If it doesn’t help the Left criminalize conservatism, it’s not worth discussing.
From the conclusion of the grand jury report: “It is not our job to say who should be fired or demoted. We believe, however, that anyone responsible for permitting Gosnell to operate as he did should face strong disciplinary action up to and including termination. This includes not only the people who failed to do the inspecting, the prosecuting, and the protecting, but also those at the top who obviously tolerated, or even encouraged, the inaction. The Department of State literally licensed Gosnell’s criminally dangerous behavior. DOH gave its stamp of approval to his facility. These agencies do not deserve the public’s trust. The fate of Karnamaya Mongar and countless babies with severed spinal cords is proof that people at those departments were not doing their jobs. Those charged with protecting the public must do better.”
Over to you, eugenics-inspired, eco-freak Obama science czar John Holdren…

Let’s give the “climate of hate” rhetoric a rest for a moment. It’s time to talk about the climate of death in which the abortion industry thrives unchecked. Dehumanizing rhetoric, rationalizing language, and a callous disregard for life have numbed America to its monstrous consequences. Consider the Philadelphia Horror.
In the City of Brotherly Love, hundreds of babies were murdered by a scissors-wielding monster over four decades. Whistleblowers informed public officials at all levels of the wanton killings of innocent life. But a parade of government health bureaucrats and advocates protecting the abortion racket looked the other way – until, that is, a Philadelphia grand jury finally exposed the infanticide factory run by abortionist Kermit B. Gosnell, M.D., and a crew of unlicensed, untrained butchers masquerading as noble providers of women’s “choice.” Prosecutors charged Gosnell and his death squad with multiple counts of murder, infanticide, conspiracy, abuse of corpse, theft, and other offenses.
The 281-page grand jury report (see full embedded document below) released Wednesday provides a bone-chilling account of how Gosnell’s “Women’s Medical Society” systematically preyed on poor, minority pregnant women and their live, viable babies. The report’s introduction lays out the criminal enterprise that claimed the lives of untold numbers of babies — and mothers:
“This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women. What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable, babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors. The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels – and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths. Over the years, many people came to know that something was going on here. But no one put a stop to it.”
Echoing the same kind of dark euphemisms plied by Planned Parenthood propagandists who refer to unborn life as “fetal and uterine material,” Gosnell referred to his deadly trade as “ensuring fetal demise.” Reminiscent of the word wizards who refer to the skull-crushing partial-birth abortion procedure as “intact dilation and evacuation” and “intrauterine cranial decompression,” Gosnell described his destruction of babies’ spinal cords as “snipping.”
He rationalized his macabre habit of cutting off dead babies’ feet and saving them in rows and rows of specimen jars as “research.”

His guilt-ridden employees then took photos of some of the victims before dumping them in shoe-boxes, paper bags, one-gallon spring-water bottles, and glass jars.
They weren’t the only ones who adopted a see-no-evil stance:
*The Pennsylvania Department of Health knew of clinic violations dating back decades, but did nothing;
*The Pennsylvania Department of State was “repeatedly confronted with evidence about Gosnell” – including the clinic’s unclean, unsterile conditions, unlicensed workers, unsupervised sedation, underage abortion patients, and over-prescribing of pain pills with high resale value on the street – “and repeatedly chose to do nothing.”
*Philadelphia Department of Public Health officials who regularly visited Gosnell’s human waste-clogged offices did nothing;
*Nearby hospital officials who treated some of the pregnant mothers who suffered grave complications from Gosnell’s butchery did nothing; and
*The National Abortion Federation, the leading association of abortion providers that is supposed to uphold strict health and legal standards, determined that Gosnell’s chamber of horrors was “the worst abortion clinic she had ever inspected” – but did nothing.
Meanwhile, the death racketeers have launched a legislative and regulatory assault across the country on pro-life crisis pregnancy centers from New York City to Baltimore, Austin, and Seattle who offer abortion alternatives, counseling, and family services to mostly poor, vulnerable, minority women.
Already, left-wing journalists and activists have rushed to explain that these abortion atrocities ignored for four decades by abortion radicals and rationalizers are not really about abortion. A Time magazine writer argued that the Philadelphia Horror was “about poverty, not Roe V. Wade.” A University of Minnesota professor declared: “This is not about abortion.”
But the grand jury itself pointed out that loosened oversight of abortion clinics enacted under pro-choice former GOP governor Tom Ridge enabled Gosnell’s criminal enterprise – and led to the heartless execution of hundreds of babies. Mass murder got a pass in the name of expanding “access” and appeasing abortion lobbyists. As the report made clear: “With the change of administration from [pro-life Democrat] Governor Casey to Governor Ridge,” government health officials “concluded that inspections would be ‘putting a barrier up to women’ seeking abortions. Better to leave clinics to do as they pleased, even though, as Gosnell proved, that meant both women and babies would pay.”
Deadly indifference to protecting life isn’t tangential to the abortion industry’s existence – it’s at the core of it. The Philadelphia Horror is no anomaly. It’s the logical, blood-curdling consequence of an evil, eugenics-rooted enterprise wrapped in feminist clothing.

It[']s funny how framing works. A massacre perpetrated by a deranged man is not about the deranged man; it’s about “rhetoric.” But a massacre perpetrated by an abortion provider whose violations against laws of the nation and of humanity were overlooked for years is “not about abortion.” It’s about criminal behavior, and that’s all. But some of our most prominent politicians have voted against the very bill — the “born alive” bill — that defines such behavior as criminal. Meaning, I guess, that if only enough politicians had voted with Sen. Barack Obama, Gosnell’s behavior would not be “criminal” at all, and therefore we wouldn’t even be talking about it?
Well, the story of Kermit Gosnell is about abortion; it’s about abortion in America. And abortion in America is about a mindset, — even (or especially) among regulation-happy folk who will make a big noise about public safety on issues large and small — a mindset that will protect a Gosnell, and purposely turn a blind eye to abortion centers and practitioners and all of their lapses and illegalities, as long as the abortions keep on coming.

The point of discourse isn’t to necessarily convince your “adversary”. It’s to provide others who haven’t formed firm opinions one way or the other with different points of view so they can make up their own minds.
A nice quick lesson in PC. The truth should be avoided because it’s incendiary.
Johan I used to bristle at the calling people nazis, I thought it was outrageous and trivialized that history, but it fits here. Worried about a white woman, huh? The socialists are using the same play book. It sucks so much evil being done in this country and the brainwashed call it good.
Not exactly, tv. I support and serve on the board of a Crisis Pregnancy Center in Atlanta. The women at the center provide counsel, care, housing, support and the means for pregnant girls to keep their babies. Safe homes, medical care, job skills training and tons of love. If you can get this infanticide stopped, more power to you. Until then the best course is to save as many lives as possible. To date this center alone has saved ovver 100 lives.
Telling a girl it’s “murder”, then doing nothing to assist her is useless, and more than a bit cruel. That was my point FWIW. Absolutely nothing to do with PC. In fact it’s politically incorrect to advise a girl to carry her child to term. Just sayin’.
I stand corrected. What you describe is a special case and you do or say whatever works to keep the baby from being killed. I have no problem with that, and that sort of situation wasn’t what I had in mind. Your original comment was more general and as phrased, would in fact appear to be classicly PC, i.e. intended to remove the term from general discourse.
Yes, they need love and support. Calling it murder and/or showing photos to young women in crisis would be cruel and counterproductive.
And yet, having an ‘intelligent discussion’ about abortion among uninvolved adults, without the showing the reality, is like having a trial without visual evidence.
I haven’t posted here in a long time but I read daily. This story is huge.
I have only been able to read the first 14 pages of the grand jury report. It made me sick.
As other posters have pointed out, one of the biggest arguments for legal abortion is to prevent back alley rusty coat hanger procedures. Obviously a moot point in light of this.
To the people who have argued with me over the years saying, “It’s my body so it’s my choice” I would ask them to look at the photo above. Are those your feet that were cut off?
Pretty disturbing, as is all abortion. I’m not quite sure this story is about abortion though, because these were born children, legally attaining personhood. We live in a dark world.
Then you have entirely missed the real meaning of the story. The life of a born baby breathing has no more fundamental moral value than the life of a 9 month preborn.
Gosnell and all of the people who enabled his carnage understood that basic moral fact. You can split the difference legally, but the morality is fixed. They are the same.
So, whatever the legality of the moment happens to be, if like the pro-abortion crowd you accept the slaughter of the fully developed preborn, whining about the immorality of killing the newly born is just more leftwing loon moral hypocrisy.
This was just on Fox 6pm news, showing the murderer himself (Kermit Gosnell, smiling and strutting into court).
Smith said a third bill by Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., would add to the limitations on federal funding for abortions by cutting off federal money from going to Planned Parenthood. Smith called the health care group “the largest abortion network in the world,” performing 324,000 abortions each year and deriving up to $1 billion each year from fees for services paid by federal, local and state governments
Rep. Smith from NJ stated:
“When there’s no public subsidy for abortion, the number of abortions drop by about 25 percent,” Smith said, citing right-to-life movement research.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/01/20/republicans-introduce-ban-federal-funding-abortion-procedures/
Also a statement by Nancy Keenan, asking Republicans in Congress (to deflect): “Where are the jobs?”
The pro-abortionist movement is worried. It will be interesting to see if major networks cover this story.
Um, perhaps avoiding slang like “grow up” and “split the difference” for the purposes of this discussion, would be helpful. I’m sure no one meant to be dark, but…
When you look at post abortion photos, even in the early stages, they are clearly little human body parts. So to try to caltegorize one stage as OK abort, but not the other, is to deny humanity.
Thanks for the article and the disussion forum Ms. Malkin.
Why don’t men get any say or any set of rights related to an unborn child in relation to the debate about abortion?
A woman could conceivably go against the father’s wishes and declare her intention to abort an unborn child and then change her mind and eventually force the father to pay for the child’s upbring.
I wonder if he would be quite as smug if he was sentenced to having his spinal cord ‘snipped’, and he had to little to do each day in the grey bar hotel besides stare at jars containing his feet?
Not that I’m advocating that. Just expressing hypotheticals, here.
So…
8 counts of murder for delivering living babies, then killing them.
33 counts of illegal late-term abortions for killing them in the womb.
WHAT THE HELL DIFFERENCE DOES TEN SECONDS AND ONE METRE MAKE THAT IT’S NOT YET MURDER BUT MERELY LATE TERM ABORTION??!!!
One possibility is that that difference is a rationalization/justification gimmick that the opposite worldview-holders employ.
So typical of any leftist out there. Nothing will spur them to outrage, even babies feet cut off after abortions and stored in jars as trophies.
Better to remain silent and allow that silence to support something like this rather than speak out against it.
Name any issue out there where you find leftists, and you will find others remaining silent, quietly supporting rather than being thrown out of the clan.
Better to save effort for political gain against the right.
I don’t say better to save emotion, outrage or anger against the right because it’s usually feigned anyway…particularly if this issue doesn’t raise any emotion, outrage or anger in them.
Rather pathetic.
Support your democratic party, we don’t stop at murdering the unborn, we murder new born babies too.
The democrats are always the last barrier to improving human rights. They are the party of slavery, segregation, the KKK, and abortion. I guess that if it weren’t the democrats it would be some other nihilistic bunch.
Bingo!
I get so sick and tired of Democrats telling me the Republicans became the “party of slavery” when many Dixiecrats abandoned the Democrat Party and went Republican after the sixties.
The truth is that if you are a white racist and segregationist and you have to choose between a party that slams you for being a racist or a party that not only slams you for being a racist but also favors institutionalized discrimination against you because of your race, you are pretty much stuck with the party that just slams you for being a racist.
The Democrat Party went straight from favoring racism against blacks to favoring racism agains non-hispanic whites and asians.
That is just its nature. The Democrat Party is always the party of evil, whether that evil is socialism or racism or enabling criminals or promoting late term abortions.
Whenever they seem to be advancing a “good” cause, jumping out in front of the parade, that is just cover for them to cram more evil down our throats.
It’s what they do.
Liberal la-la land: where people get enraged because a guy, in violation of OSHA regulations, isn’t wearing eye protection on the jobsite, but can turn a blind eye (pun intended) to Gosnell’s “enterprise.”
The poster from Planned Parenthood that I saw last week in my local mall directed at the mall rat girls says it all:
OMG GYN!
It touts how fast you can get an ob/gyn appt. compared to local doctors (for that emergency abortion)
If it weren’t for the MSM propagandizing how wonderful the Deomcratic Party is, and carrying the DNC’s notions about how diabolical the Republicans are, they would have went the way of the Whig Party a long time ago. Heck, there’s no resemblance between the Dems of today and what they looked like 40 or so years ago, when even Teddy Kennedy was pro-life.
Jeffery Dahmer with a medical degree. This is literally making me physically nauseated. This case should be front page news for months. I want pictures splashed over the internet. Let anybody obsessed with “women’s reproductive rights” view the grisly details of what abortion and “partial birth abortion” really is: cold blooded murder, committed by cold blooded people, and cheered on by cold blooded liberals. God, Im so angry I could bust.
Though I endorse repealing R&W, I hope the Tea Party stays clear of this issue like a field of tar landmines. Once the majority of Americans get the (MSM seeded) notion that the Tea Party is just a single issue/religious issue movement, we’ll lose a lot more than the WH this next round guaranteed. The time to pick your fights is when you’re in an advantageous position which we now are not. Cool the passions and wait for that day when we seize the prize!

Liberals will be here soon. I think they were waiting to find the spin and it seems to have been found. HuffPo, has an AP story about how a poor 21 yo lady ended up having to go to this butcher block because the safe and clean Planned Parenthood in another part of town was being picketed so fiercely, she felt uncomfortable going to the legitimate one and due to the hateful, awful picketers had to go this dirty one.
I’m still stunned, I just thought Sanger was a drug addicted racist. I had no idea she was an admirer of Nazi social engineering, as does it seems the Democrat Party.
Looking at this story at DU when it first broke to read their comments, the first thing that really struck me was that one of the earliest comments was: “Racist uncertified #*$)@(# MD stopped from doing back alley abortions with untrained staff”. When it was pointed out that he was, in fact, black, the immediate reaction was “WTF”. Some of them could not imagine someone capable of these horrific crimes as anything but white.
Not sure what happened to my comment…got stuck somewhere…perhaps it was too long.
Hope I didn’t break it Michelle.
The NY Times is spinning on a Saturday. Better late than never I guess.
We hear about how state regulators weren’t exercising proper oversight, and the scorn against them seems well deserved. But what I’m also insterested in knowing is how many newspapers were contacted with tips about this place and decided not to follow up on them with investigative reporting.
Abortion, a medical procedure that represents Failure of some kind. In a just open growing society you just do not celebrate Failure. If Abortion were such a moral, righteous wonderful thing would it matter much if the baby was killed with its head still in side the mother? If a few “parts” were not cleaned up right away? Just this “little” argument about the procedure tells us that something is very wrong. That it is impossible to have a reasoned discussion about it tells us that something is very wrong.
