Obama to Push for Massive Spending Cuts in State of the Union Speech

By Doug Powers  •  January 22, 2011 05:23 PM

Sorry, did I say cuts? I meant increases, but you probably already figured that out:

President Barack Obama will call for new government spending on infrastructure, education and research in his State of the Union address Tuesday, sharpening his response to Republicans in Congress who are demanding deep budget cuts, people familiar with the speech said.

Mr. Obama will argue that the U.S., even while trying to reduce its budget deficit, must make targeted investments to foster job growth and boost U.S. competitiveness in the world economy. The new spending could include initiatives aimed at building the renewable-energy sector—which received billions of dollars in stimulus funding—and rebuilding roads to improve transportation, people familiar with the matter said.

“Spending our way out of debt” will remain the long-term strategy — at least until it all comes crashing down. This might come as great news to some of the GOP’s dates at the State of the Union/Prom Night speech Tuesday night.

I’d swear we’ve heard this song before. Wasn’t taking care of all of the above the justification for the first load of “stumulus” spending that was such a smashing success?

The extra funding will be intended to encourage people to “build stuff and invent stuff” (one of those inventions better be a device that miraculously makes the debt irrelevant).

Google George Lakoff and you’ll find he’s published this BS over and over.

George Lakoff, a professor at the University of California at Berkeley, recently stated that “the moral mission of government is simple: no one can earn a living in America or live an American life without protection and empowerment by the government.”
Thirty-four percent (34%) of voters nationwide agree with Lakoff’s assertion while 46% disagree in a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Twenty percent (20%) are not sure.
Half (51%) of Democrats agree with the professor while Republicans and unaffiliated voters strongly disagree. Republicans reject Lakoff’s statement by a 3-to-1 margin, unaffiliateds by a 2-to-1 margin.

Somehow the left never quite gets the clue that government can’t exist except as an entity created, supported and controlled by We the People.

American leaders are only allowed the powers we give them, right now 300 million people need to keep that in mind.

AP reported that Eric Cantor has said that the Defense budget is under consideration for cuts, too, thanks to Tea Party pressure. (Cantor has said this before, but he was the majority whip-elect then.)

This is great news. It says that the Tea Party arm of the GOP is truly serious about scaling back government. This notion that Defense should off the table because we are at war is patented nonsense. Expect the Democrats to start sounding like hawks on today’s talk shows.

Defense plans to spend over $720 billion this year. Only about $160 of that is for Iraq and Afghanistan. There is room for some trimming. I particularly like Cato’s plan to reduce Defense spending by $1.2 trillion over 10 years.

The other obvious ploy to counter Defense budget cuts will be to kick and scream about job losses in a time of economic suffering. What a bunch of Keynesian bullstuff.

We spend ourselves into oblivion in a Keynesian/quixotic (keynexotic?) attempt to “stimulate” the economy, especially since this new administration took over (Bush tried this idiocy, too,) and we think that Congress will cut spending when times are good? Ha friggin’ ha.

Go get them Tea Partiers. Put ALL discretionary spending on the table and cut cut cut. Free this economy from government spending and watch the US economy percolate and grow.

The downside, of course, is that this gets Barack Obama a second term. But, it could keep the GOP dominate in the House and would likely lead to control of the Senate. I’d take that any day.

It is self evidently true to all but an extreme leftwing anarchist fringe, like the Marxist loons who believe their all powerful government will “fade away.”

If it was not true, then we would not have bothered with ratifying the Constitution and establishing the government.

Why bother having a government at all, if we don’t need it to be able to earn a living or live an American life?

If we didn’t need it, we could just abolish it and then go on our merry way, earning our livings and living our lives.

The Tea Party loves having a properly functioning government. The Tea Party loves our Constitution and the rule of law.

The claim we do not is nothing but the vile, Big Lie propaganda of evil men.

The Tea Party also loves the limits our Constitution places on our government so that it remains our servant rather than become our tyrant.

That is why the evil men who want tyrannical government lie about the Tea Party hating government.

And here is our grim leader, “We’re gonna go back to Edison’s principles,” while we’re getting rid of Edison. Lord help us.
