Sheila Jackson Lee: My Constituents are Ill-Informed

By Doug Powers  •  January 27, 2011 01:41 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

When a politician refers to the general public as “ill informed” on an issue (in this case it’s hospital closures due to the health care law) it’s just another way of calling them ignorant or stupid. Even so, it’s hard to argue with Sheila Jackson Lee (D-umb Constituents) when she makes the claim about some of the voters in her district. Why? Well, they keep voting for Sheila Jackson Lee don’t they? I’m forced to admit that her logic is iron-clad on this one.

Note to those in the 18th congressional district of Texas: When a woman who once asked if NASA’s Pathfinder took pictures of where Neil Armstrong planted the flag on Mars calls you ill-informed, it’s time to hit the books.

I hope she is not an example of her constituency’s IQ…aside from being in love with her own voice, and an opportunistic racist when it suits her, she actually thinks of herself as an intelligent, modern black woman. I would love to disabuse her of that notion! She is neither intelligent, nor modern, IMHO.

I’m curious…under her watch, how much impact has she had on the lives of those in her district, and have their lives improved? She rails about the same failings, and inequities for her constituents over and over again..it’s pretty obvious that she’s not doing her job since nothing ever improves.

During the SOTU speech there was black gentleman whose slicked back hair looked like it needed an oil change, sitting and standing next to SJL. That is the (ahem) honorable Al Green, TX D-9 who is curently as protected as SJL but at least less conspicuous.

SJL comes from the vaunted 3rd ward in Houston. We haven’t used the term “ward” to identify sections of the city for at least 75 years but denizens of that area insist on it. A couple of years before the housing bust people started noticing the big homes in the former Jewish enclave had very low appraisal/tax values and developers and everybody else started looking to buy them. uh-uh. Those wonderful foks banded together and had signs made threatening anybody that was’t black to buy in their neighborhood and stuck them in their front yards. I would not have known that except my wife and I were of the clueless who thought it would be cool to own a big old house in an old neighborhood and witnessed firsthand the cold stares that went along with the signs when we drove through. I’m guessing it wasn’t news worthy.

Probably not. You see, Mr. Douglass was a Republican. So I suspect she knows very little about him. He stood up against the democrats (i.e., slave holders) so he’s not likely to be included in her version of history. If he is, then his party affiliation will not be mentioned. Because then the obvious question would be, since he’s a Republican and against slavery, then which party was supporting slavery? Can’t have that question asked!
