Undoing Obamacare: The latest

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 1, 2011 01:48 PM

On the heels of Florida judge Roger Vinson’s decision yesterday voiding Obamacare, Capitol Hill’s repeal efforts are heating up.

Word in D.C. is that Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell may introduce the House-passed Obamacare repeal bill as an amendment to an FAA bill on the floor this afternoon.

On a separate front, watch out for a State Obamacare Waiver bill sponsored by Sens. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., and Lindsey Graham, R-SC.

GOP Sen. Mike Johanns, who has targeted the onerous 1099 reporting mandates in the Obamacare law for the past year, introduced his repeal bill covering those provisions yesterday — it’s S.A. 3 to S.233.

GOP Sen. Scott Brown wants a repeal of the job-killing medical device tax that’s crushing innovators in Massachusetts.

And Harry Reid and Charles Schumer are plugging their ears chanting “La, la, la, I can’t hear you!”

While I know that they all do it, I don’t agree with this tactic. Each bill should be able to stand on, and be voted on, it’s own merits.

I would like to see “Napoleon’s Corporal” brought into the process. An old, wise way to issue orders in the military — write them out and then hand them to the lowliest enlisted guy (and usually NOT the birghtest bulb in the chandelier) chosen specifically for the job. If the Corporal understands what the intent is, then it passes. If you get a blank stare, rip up the bill and start over!

    Remember this:
A triumphant Nancy Pelosi celebrated the passage of health care reform yesterday in a rousing speech to packed church service, declaring that she’s not afraid of Republican efforts to repeal the bill if they retake Congress in November. Pelosi said that despite current misconceptions, Americans would soon appreciate the bill’s protections.
    Remember this:
Progressive journalists are hailing President Obama this morning in the wake of the legislation passing, with New Republic scribe and health care aficionado Jonathan Chalit offering that Barack Obama has”sealed his reputation as a president of great historical import.” Calling it a staggering political achievement, Chalit writes that historians will view the bill as a masterfully crafted piece of legislation.
    Remember this:
A group of about 120 White House staffers gathered on the Truman Balcony at the White House to celebrate the bill’s passage and have a champagne toast when the senior advisor made the remarks. White House speech writer Jon Favreau told the paper, “It was as excited as I’d seen anyone since election night, since inauguration.”
He also said there was laughter in the air, with Axelrod and White House Press Secretary Gibbs telling jokes to the president, “He was laughing so hard,” Favreau said. “I’d never seen the president laugh that hard.”

Yes Mr. President, laugh it up buddy. Have another glass of champagne.

Which is why one more item on the Republican To-Do List needs to be serious legislative reform:

    1. One bill, one subject. Any amendments or riders must be a separate bill.

    2. The bill must contain a formal declaration of the Constitutional authorization/justification for the bill to be proposed in the first place. Any invocation of the Commerce Clause will be grounds for an automatic challenge to same…

    3. The bill may not exceed 15 pages of double-spaced type in size.

No doubt others can suggest additional enhancements and refinements, but this should be good for a start.

    Amen to that.

It may take two more election cycles to get to the point where we control both the Executive branch and 2/3 of each house of the Legislative branch.

But if we can do that, we can undo 100 years of “Progressivism”.

Even “Progressive” Court decisions could be overturned via a Constitutional amendment, if necessary.

When you listen to their rants, you quickly see they are operating in another century. When they defend unions, they bring up child labor laws and 70 hour work weeks. When they defend government regulations they bring up the Robber Barons. Then they drone on an on about the “wealthy” and the need to spread the wealth around. This is of course right out of Marx.

They are stuck on top/down hierarchical monolithic structures like a large centralized government, never realizing that businesses have abandoned such structures for being inefficient, compartmentalized, unmaintainable and yes a legacy. Business has moved on to distributed/network structures that are flatter and offer far better communication and flexibility. Kind of like united states. In other words the best structure is the structure of federalism.

Change is too fast for Progressivism and they can only stop progress to get their way.

Nothing will stop these people because they know that no one will enforce anything against them.
