1099 repeal: Democrats play “Talk Like a Republican” again

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 2, 2011 10:33 AM

GOP Senate Leader Mitch McConnell took to the Senate floor this morning to push for Obamacare repeal.

“The case against this bill is more compelling every day,” he said. “Everything we learned tells us it was a bad idea.”

Even while Democrats cling bitterly to their failure, they have conceded error.

As McConnell noted: GOP Sen. Mike Johanns “did such an outstanding job raising awareness” of the onerous 1099 requirement that Democrats “have co-opted the idea.”

The latest on a mini-repeal deal:

The Senate this week seems closer than ever to approving a repeal of the widely opposed 1099 language in last year’s healthcare law, with Democrats and Republicans prepared to support nearly identical repeal language.

Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) re-introduced repeal language this week as an amendment to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) authorization bill. His amendment would repeal the 1099 requirement to file tax forms for transactions worth $600 or more each year with a company, and ask the Office of Management and Budget to rescind $39 billion in discretionary funds in order to offset the cost of repeal.

Several Democrats opposed this language in a vote last November, although it still received 61 votes and only failed because a two-thirds vote was required. It was also more popular than Democratic language that did not include any offset.

This time around, Senate Democrats are putting up a 1099 repeal amendment as an alternative to a Republican proposal to tack a healthcare repeal amendment onto the FAA bill.

Earlier on Tuesday, and at the instruction of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) proposed 1099 repeal language that is nearly identical to the Johanns language. The Johanns bill exempts the departments of Defense and Veterans’ Affairs from being cut in order to offset the $39 billion, and the Stabenow amendment adds just a few words to also exempt the Social Security Administration from cuts.

Stand by for updates on the full Obamacare repeal vote…procedural votes expected at approx. 5-6pm Eastern.

That dangerous fool Reid gave instructions for repeal language?

In other news, Harry Reid, against the wishes of most folks (IOR, the sane, responsible ones), sets fire to his neighbors’ houses,…then barks orders and “instructions” to the firefighters.

As Imus used to say (??still says??), Jesus God Almighty…my hair hurts.

There really needs to be a law that can prosecute “lawmakers” like Reid and Pelosi for egregious malfeasence in office. These people are serial political rapists.

And their bootlickers in the media won’t bother to ask, “But didn’t you guys force this pile of garbage on us in the first place? If you had actually read the bill, you wouldn’t have to repeal it piece by piece, now would you?”

Real media response: “Why just look how the democrats have saved us from those evil conservatives!”

Actually, since the bill is currently deemed unconstitutional, that’s where it stands for the nation.

It’s only been judicially deemed unconstitutional in Virginia and Florida, and those rulings are still subject to appeal. There’s still a lot of work to be done.

The judge voided the law in its entirety. It is unconstitutional and cannot be implemented. To do so would be contempy of court. Which is what I expect from the administration.

“Talk like a Republican,” but notice that they all voted in lockstep against the repeal of Obamacare as a whole.

    So remember that, everybody.

Ben Nelson didn’t need another cornhusker kickback to vote against repeal.

Claire McCaskill, of Missouri voted against repeal.

Jon Tester, down in polls against Rehberg voted against repeal.

Jim Webb, whose weak efforts in fundraising have triggered questions of retirement, voted against repeal.

Joe Manchin, the Democrat who won by putting on a Republican act, voted against repeal.

All are up in 2012. Good luck appealing to the moderate voters who oppose this big government monstrosity. You have 21 months…

Waaaaaaait a second, there. Isn’t this the guy that shot the bill with a rifle during a campaign commercial? So, when it came time to put his vote where his mouth was, he folded like a cheap lawn chair.
