Undoing Obamacare: Senate repeal fails 47-51 on party-line vote; 1099 provision killed 83-17
Senate Republicans took their stand — forcing the Dems to go on record in defense of the Obamacare nightmare from which hundreds of unions have escaped.
And as I noted this morning, the Dems carried out their “Talk Like a Republican” moment and voted with the GOP to pass a mini-repeal of the burdensome 1099 reporting requirements:
Although several states indicated they will not implement the health care law now that one federal district judge has ruled it void, a Republican effort Wednesday to add an amendment to an airports construction bill to repeal the law failed by a Senate vote of 47-51.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s decision to use the House-passed repeal as an amendment to the Federal Aviation Administration legislation did not win a single Democrat vote.
But it has gotten the clock ticking on discussion about repeal. Lawmakers took to the Senate floor Wednesday to argue their points on the health care law once more.
Senators also voted another amendment alongside the House repeal bill. A Democratic amendment offered by Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow, which called for the full repeal of the 1099 reporting requirement for medical businesses purchasing equipment worth $600 or more, passed by a vote of 83-17.
Here’s the full repeal roll call vote.
And here’s the 1099 repeal roll call vote. Note the 17 who voted against lifting the reporting burden:
NAY
Akaka (D-HI)
Carper (D-DE)
Durbin (D-IL)
Franken (D-MN)
Gillibrand (D-NY)
Harkin (D-IA)
Inouye (D-HI)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Leahy (D-VT)
Levin (D-MI)
Mikulski (D-MD)
Murray (D-WA)
Reed (D-RI)
Reid (D-NV)
Sanders (I-VT)
Schumer (D-NY)
Whitehouse (D-RI)
The fight, as Sen. McConnell said, is far from over.

All were either democRATs or socialists who voted NOT to get rid of the overburdensome 1099 regulation. I am not sure, but I would bet none of these senators are up for election in 2012.
Michelle – THANK YOU for keeping their feet to the fire!
Don’t let anyone forget these votes. This type of “Change” is NOT what people voted for. Remind, remind, remind!!!
I’m without words each time I’m reminded this man is a Senator.
*The GOP stayed unified and that is a hopeful sign; We have the Democrat rat bastards on record, but no matter what they say or do over the next 2 years, we must target them for removal through the ballot box in 2012; The same can be said for Lugar, Snowe, and Hatch, as they have helped P-BO saddle up this socialist horse that he now rides roughshod over us!
pretty close. 3 votes from forcing a veto. amazing for such a sweeping future obligation of future generations.
Essentially, this bill writes checks that congress can’t cash.
I can’t wait until 2012.
*Obamacare is essentially dead in any case based on this week’s ruling, and states should call it so and refuse to implement; Call P-BO’s bluff and keep the heat high and tight!
*SCOTUS will also find it unconstitutional; Just wish it were now and not 2012 so we can move on to real reform instead of the obligatory wasting of time and money the Feds are so good at.
We can just hope the r’s give another go to vote on this. Put this repeal in some bill the d’s want real bad. They, we do, to get things done. Hold bho and the d’s feet to the fire. I hope this vote will come to bit these d’s where it hurts come reelection time.

Thank you, Mitch McConnell and all of the Senate Republicans.
And thank you, again, to John Boehner and all of the House Republicans.
You have done what we asked you to do. You have made it clear that Republicans in both houses are unanimously in favor of repealing Obamacare.
In the 112th Congress, as in the 111th Congress, the opposition to Obamacare has been bipartisan, while the votes in favor of Obamacare have come only from Democrat[ic Socialist]s.
The 2012 elections will be an even bigger referendum on Socialism than the 2010 elections were.
Let me clarify part of what I said:
Republicans of the 112th Congress have done some, but not all, of what we ask them to do.
I agree with letget:
Put it in the bill that raises the debt ceiling.
Don’t let the Democrats get away with the BIG LIE of claiming that Obamacare will reduce Healthcare expenses. Obamacare increases expenses and increases the debt.
If they want to raise the debt ceiling, repeal Obamacare.
Yeah, when they don’t have enough votes to win, they vote as a bloc. But when they are in the majority, in come the Gangs of McCain of deliver landmark victories to the Dems. That’s the kabuki theater we are fighting and why we need to either take over the GOP or put them out of business.
Both Hawaii Senators voted NAY?
Gomer Pyle: “Surprise, surprise, surprise!!!!!!“
I wonder if there is a rule that requires a bill to go back to the CBO if certain parts of it are repealed?

Not exactly. From what I understand, the way the vote was done, it needed 60 votes to pass…
Even if it had only needed 50, if 3 Dems joined the Republicans, Reid would have forced the two no-shows to come in and vote, and in a 50-50 tie, Joe Biden would have been the tie-breaking vote.
If we really want to send this to Obama for his veto, it’s going to take getting an up-or-down vote on it and getting 4 Dems to switch their vote and join the 47 Republicans.
Obama would, of course, veto it, and overriding the veto would require a 2/3 vote of both houses of Congress.
Obamacare won’t be repealed in the 112th Congress, but it may get declared Unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Even if that doesn’t happen soon, the Republican House will do everything they can to defund its implementation, and the states involved in the lawsuit won’t move forward with implementation, either.
Regardless of how this plays out, the Democrat[ic Socialist]s have made their bed. They have completely “outed” themselves as Socialists/Communists.
There is no difference between the agenda of the Democratic Party and the Program of the Communist Party USA. None at all.
And the Conservative Majority in America is now fully awakened to this clear and present danger.
Democrats will lose the Senate and the Presidency in 2012, and they won’t be getting power back anytime soon. It will take decades for the Democratic Party to regain any credibility with the majority of American citizens.

Pray that the 5 SCOTUS Justices stay healthy. If Comrade Obama can replace one of them with another “Wise” (aka biased) Latina or equivalent pick we are toast.
***
And it could happen if some left wing nut attacks one to help out the socialist / statist / marxist / communist takeover of our country. Our liberties hang by one vote now. I hope the Justices have real 24 / 7/ 365 security protection.

Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that they’re not out to get you!

All of this is moot.
The law has been invalidated.
All implementation should cease.
To do otherwise is contempt of court.
Swearing in an ineligible man was contempt of Constitution.
I fully expect implementation to continue.
There is no rule of law in the USSA.
Dear Republicans:
Thank you for wasting your time on protest votes rather than doing actual damage to the country by having the balls to achieve anything concrete. The fact that your elected representatives are far too chicken to cut entitlement programs during a grave economic downturn is truly great solace. Keep up the pretend good work.
According to Mark Levin, Judge Vinson’s writing states on the 75th page there is nothing to place an injunction against the law is invalid, UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
The end of that until the SCOTUS makes a ruling.
I’m with you, but I’m not so sure Barry will not some how will try and make that election impossible. He is mad with power. He remind’s me of the 6th grader that just won the school marble championship…dated myself there did I.
Michelle, perhaps you can check, or already know this but, I thought an article I read earlier today said the Democrats didn’t want the 1099 vote either until it was pointed out they offered it previously.
Not that it means much, but it does show how they didn’t want to vote for anything related to OblahblahCare.
Here, have a little Havarti with your whine.

You mean like Obamacare?
al franken voted against the 1099 repeal.
Thanks, Minnesota. Thanks a lot…
Nay. The GOP GOT unified after Vinson’s ruling.
You just KNOW there were some wishy-washy RINO’s that didn’t know what to do until Vinson stiffened their spine a little.
Stop with the dribs and drabs, repeal this POS and be done with it, you poinyoins!!
*Duly noted later in my post; I am all for targeting the RINO rat bastards for removal from office through the ballot box in 2012 and 2014; I contribute to the Senate Conservatives Fund run by Jim DeMint for that reason; We must help him find candidates willing to unseat Hatch, Lugar, Graham, Corker, Alexander, Snowe, Collins, and their progressive ilk!
No prisoners on this issue.
*Does a red diaper doper baby grow up to be a Red State Skeptic?; Just asking.
*Herman Cain calls it the Health Care Deform Bill; I’m with him; In fact, I’m a Cracker for Cain, and sometimes a Honky for Herman; We need a businessman/manager to run the country, and not the one known for Romneycare!
The Republicans in the House and Senate did what they could. The states did what they could and got it before a judge that ruled the entire package unconstitutional.
Yes the Republicans in the House and Senate should continue towards repeal, but the biggest stake to drive through the heart of this abomination is for Urkel to try implement any part of it in any of the states that sued…or continue any step to implement it.
At that point, any of the 26 state AG’s that sued need to ask the judge to enforce his ruling, and the Republicans need to demand it be followed.
If this bunch of thugs ignore another federal court ruling like they did with the Gulf drilling ban, we may as well hang it up as a country.
*Never; There is only one of him, as with Mubarak; The difference is that we can hold the line for 2 years, then vote him out of office.
You certainly don’t disappoint in showing your ignorance whenever you post.
You are foolish to think that leaving the socialist health care law in effect would either have no effect on the economy, or even help it as some socialists claim. Repealing this bill as much as any other would have a significant effect, you just refuse to admit it.
As for cutting entitlements, many of the states that are fiscal basket cases are run by Democrats, who have piled on entitlements rather than cutting them.
Either you choose to forget, or you just don’t know, but it was Republicans who reformed entitlements in the 1990′s which Clinton claimed credit for to get re-elected. After 40 years of Great Society programs, Republicans acted for the first REAL cuts in entitlements in years…enough that welfare agencies in many states were advertising for people to come get benefits.
By the way, veterans disability is considered an entitlement in Washington. Are you advocating cutting that too?
Told you, West Virginia!!!
Joe Manchin—NAY on health care repeal
Oh, BTW, enjoy living on the street and welfare when the EPA shuts down all your coal mines!

So the dems get a free pass?
According to his little mind, evil businesses will get away without paying their fair share in taxes unless they report every dime they transact.
…now if we could just find out how he was paid while at Airhead America, and where their funding came from, Franken may have some credibility on this.
You’re getting hysterical. Calm down and have a drink. They’ll get to all of those entitlement programs in due course, as if you really wanted them to. They’re going to get the Senate Dems on the record on the wrong side of every issue they can manage.
I like the idea of attaching repeal to the debt ceiling raise.
But be ready to do battle and win the PR war if you do: Have people out there BEFORE the vote blaming Soetoro and the Democrats for a potential government shutdown and of fiscal irresponsibility. Keeping Soetorocare will explode the debt.

Ooo, thanks for reminding me! I had forgotten about “Mojo.” This is the guy that turned his campaign around by putting a bullet through the healthcare bill. ROFL.
If I recall correctly, I believe he is up for reelection come 2012. You know, when WV will be voting for a Republican president yet again? Even as corrupt as WV politics are on behalf of local Democrat politicians, I suspect Mojo is going to at least feel some heat.
Bah, I must have remembered Joe Manchin’s ad incorrectly. I was thinking he put a bullet in Obamacare, but it was only the cap & trade bill. He only promised to repeal the “bad parts” of Obamacare. Bleh.
So where was Warner and Lieberman?
Stunning that 17 would vote to keep a provision universally acknowledged to be a job killer. (Can I say that?)
