Government union boss calls fiscal hawks “mentally retarded” while his minions scream for money
New tone alert!
The head of the American Federation of Government Employees, John Gage, calls responsible public officials who are finally trying to tackle bloated public salaries, pensions, and benefits “mentally retarded.”
Be sure to watch for Gage’s minions clamoring in the streets for more, more, more of your money:
Here’s an AFGE top official boasting of its aggressive fund-raising for Obama and the Democrats.

These overpaid, lazy idiots are just another subset of the socialist democrap party.
I don’t know about y’all but these union folks have gotten on to my last frayed nerve. I’m ready to bust them ala Ronaldus Maximus.
It’s time for all public pension obligations to be declared a cause for bankruptcy and knock these fools to curb. They have gnawed on the hands that no longer want to feed them.
Whenever one side of a position hasn’t a leg to stand on, the name calling starts. Shazamm!!
The question is; Why is it federal employees are paid better, and receive greater benefits than the people they (supposedly) work for?
The answer is; Um…umm..uh-h-h…You’re mentally retarded to ask that kind of question.
J G Wentworth client and gubbmint union money-brubbing member: “It’s

Outsource work to private businesses whenever possible.
How about we start by eliminating all the unconstitutional, duplicative, obsolete government agencies (after all they will get 99 weeks of unemployment) and then “renegotiate” with what’s left by telling them they will be taking a 20% pay cut and moving to the same retirement and medical plans that the rest of us are required to “join”.
Then tell them to go ahead and strike, because there will be plenty of recently laid off gov’t workers that would be happy to take up the slack t the new rates.
I can’t get by without my Navy pension.
I missed my kids growing up trying to earn it.
People who work for the government and those that are unemployed for longer than 12 months should not be allowed to vote in elections. This would solve the problem that unions and ‘economically disadvantaged’ individuals create when they vote for politicians who promise them more services, services which are paid for by the private sector.
If we keep allowing those that have no skin in the game to determine how much is spent and who gets it, we are doomed. It would be like giving your own children your paycheck and then hoping that the mortgage is paid and the car has gas in it.
Hangfire, my comments don’t refer to those that sacrifice so much voluntarily going into battle to protect America and its friends. I am referring to those departments like the Admistration of Aging, Administration for Native Americans, African Development Organization, AMTRAK, Broadcasting Board of Governors, Bureau of Justice Statistics, Bureau of Public Debt etc.
I concur heartily, my friend.
Public employee unions need to be outlawed. There is absolutely no reason why they should be permitted to collude with each other in order to artificially boost their pay and benefits. They should negotiate employment on an individual basis just like I do.
So that’s why we have a mortgage crisis.
I’d FIRE all these union GOONS! Bunch of THUGS!
The lifecycle of gubmint union workers.
1) Hired and wanting to do a good job
2) Shift boss says not too fast.
3) Gets used to 1/2 work for full day pay.
4) Gets tired of doing 1/2 days work for full pay, so demands an assistant.
5) Assistant hired, see #1.
6) Original worker now tells the assistant to slow down, don’t make me look bad.
7) Original worker does nothing now until they retire with a huge taxpayer funded pension.
Can’t wait until the TSA is unionized, think it’s bad now?
8. Government worker organizes protests and strike action in order to achieve social justice.
9. Government worker returns to perform same job they did before retirement, getting paid twice – through the pension and now through the second round of invovlement with the department.
I mentioned this article before, but worth a read…
I picture getting to the airport 6 hours before a domestic flight, and frisking myself.
Taxpayers vs. “Taxeaters” – nice phrase
Hangfire – if people start frisking themselves at the airport, I’ll be bringing a video recorder with me to my next departure.
I’m trying to decide if being retarded is worse than being racist. Whichever is worse, it’s so much nicer now that we’ve agreed to tone down the rhetoric.
Unanswered attacks, Gangs of McCain reaching across the aisle to plant anchors on the mothership again…. The good old days are back!!!
+100!
I would exempt the military, police, fire, anyone that puts their life on the line for my freedom and protection. If they want the privilege of the gov’t job, then deal with the restrictions placed on it.
Big difference between military and public sector.
I can’t imagine anyone saying retired military doesn’t deserve every penny of their pension. Useless bureaucrats, that’s another story.
American union workers circa 2011:
The last bleats of bloated pigs.
They don’t even know the end is upon them.
As an addendum to #26, I would also include anyone that receives any gov’t aid. If you get welfare, food stamps (EBT), etc., you can’t vote either. The 12 month time frame for being unemployed is good though.
While using the term retarded is not politically correct, I am not sure I completely disagree with John Gage’s statement regarding federal employee wages.
It is not clear to me that the budget issues cannot be resolved by eliminating half of the workforce and most all of the managers.
I guess that those here didn’t watch Glenn’s Fox show today? He had the unions are what they are doing around the world. Those, they are nasty critters!

“Workers of the world unite!”
You know who else wanted to keep certain people from voting in elections?
…
…
…
HITLER!!!
Oh, and also our forefathers.
Chap, comparing hitler and his murder of the Jews to my comment about not letting people on the take vote in elections is beyond a stretch, even for a liberal like yourself.
Hitler murdered millions in order to confiscate their property. He then used said property and other resources to design a military capable of attacking and killing everyone who oppposed him. Afterwards, he acted on his design and tried to wipe 2/3 of the populaton of the world of the map.
I am trying to ensure that people keep their proprety from those that want to unfairly take it from them. I wouldn’t ever compare the left to Hitler, but if we are to choose sides and relate their actions to Hitler’s, the left has much more in common with that Nazi than I or anyone of the right does.
As an aside Chap, I think, if I am not mistaken, that the left and the small group of remaining Nazi believers marched in a few parades against Israel not too long ago. Can’t remember the causes, but do remember it taking place.
Clearly, a sense of irony is not a quality our bretheren to the Great White North possess.
How is it ironic that I want to ensure people are allowed to keep their property. Again, Hitler took property away from people, I want to do the opposite.
Goverment doesn’t create wealth. Those that work for government, for the most and therefore with very few exceptions, destroy wealth. They are at opposite ends.
If you don’t believe me, then please explain why North Korea, China during the period 1950 – 1980, East Germany after the war, Russia up until 1991 etc. all had very unproductive economies. If government produces wealth, why are people trying to escape instead of trying to immigrate? If government produes wealth, why did Cuba recently talk about the need to reduce the public sector and encourage the private sector?
Go
If government produces wealth, why are people trying to escape North Korea instead of trying to immigrate there?
Forgot to put in the name of the country I was referring to.
Nor, apparently, do they possess a sense of self awareness.
Chap, I think your brethren can be found in the land formerly called the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. I am more closely related to the Boston tea party protestors from some 237 years ago.
Chap, instead of impressing yourself with your own intellect, could you please more aptly explain your comments.
The sound of someone who knows he is losing.
I’ll do their job in half the amount of time and for free. Now let’s fire them and get people who can do the job. That teacher – if she is a teacher, sounds like a panhandler. Did she take a college course to learn how to do it or learn from her union reps? These people make me sick. None deserve what they already have and they have the nerve to demand more.
I am proud that I have attended some of the finest Private schools in the nation.
These were DOD overseas schools while living in foreign countries my father was stationed.
The teachers were not union. Most of them were wives of officers that were stationed on the base. The few male teachers were either dependent husbands or DOD Overseas Education Activity professionals. The educators had college degrees, for the most part, but no “teaching certificates” earned in stateside institutions. I have found that, especially here in Hawaii, a certificate just shows that the teacher has had all the tickets punched, and is capable of turning an intelligent child into a good little communist.
When my father retired, I was so far ahead academically that my senior year consisted of 12th grade English and 4 band classes.
I’m not bragging; just want to toot the horn of some dedicated teachers and administrators that were essential to my youth. Most school systems, particulary the urban ones, would do well to emulate the DOD school system.
God bless any of you still alive.
I used to work for the government and everyone I met worked very hard. I did not work in one of the “popular” areas that people keep exempting when called on their stereotyping of anyone who gets a government paycheck. I’m starting to think that while liberals unfairly pick on rich people, conservatives unfairly pick on government employees in a very similar way. Some people in both groups are twits, but so many in the public want to severely punish ALL of them, even those who have done great things or worked so hard on the public’s behalf. If you deprive government employees of the vote or reasonable pay and benefits, you will get a much worse government employee workforce. Reform by all means, but don’t blame the lower levels for management and don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater.
Yes, some gov employees work very hard and they end up doing some of the work others should have done as well. When there is a system where employees have lots job security, there is little incentive to be a stellar employees. When I quit working for the gov. I was replaced by 2 people. I saw enough laziness to last a life time.”Close enough for gov work” was the motto.
Short but worth a read.
Yes, if you are only referring to our men and women in the military. But they are still underpaid and have horrible VA health care.
“Government Union Boss”
mmmmmm sounds like a place for budget analysts to begin to reduce payroll. And why is it that unions exist in any government environment? All government unions must be abolished.
The problem with government is that the people in it think of their role as central to managing the country, when it was established only to provide overhead and administrative support to the people and economy. We do not serve the government, the government serves us.
OT, but I’m in a snit. Woke up this a.m. and there’s snow on the ground in Atlanta again and my car door was frozen shut! Sheeesh – If this warming continues around here I’ll need a snowmobile. Somebody call ManBearPig. If his Polar Bears are endangered they can move to Atlanta.
Back in the day when I was a young lad, I worked in the public sector for the State of MA for a few years. My fellow workers were always telling me to slow down and not work so hard. I can’t imagine what it must be like now.
I work for the government (DoD civilian) and there is some areas that can and should be cut and other areas that could use some help. Like many have said, management is at a complete disadvantage when dealing with the government union. We have one lady in another department that they have tried to fire and were told they could not even after she has physically attacked employees (she is facing assualt charges). She can not work around others as the management fears that she may very well do it again (she seems to be mentally unstable) yet they cannot fire her, so they have put her in her own little office away from everyone where she can come and go as she pleases collecting a huge paycheck. This type of thing needs to stop.
On the other hand, not all government workers have a bloated salary. I make a little more than what my private sector counter parts make, but I do not have the bonus potential that they have (if I did I would make far more than I do now). When it comes to healthcare plans and government workers (at the Fed level) you have to remember that there is two separate plans; one for the union employee and one that is for the non-union employee. I did not join the union and never would. I do not pay due, but I do fall under the union collective bargaining. My healthcare is decent and I do pay less than the average private sector worker, but it is nothing compared to the union plan.
Another side note about my job, my job is not covered by taxpayer dollars, it is a self funded position. I am a third party insurance biller for a military hospital. Under title 10 USC we can collect monies from third party insurance (i.e. Premera, Regence, Aetna, etc)of the patients (military retirees or spouses that may have insurance from another job) for services rendered at the military hospital. The last couple of fiscal years we brought in over $10 million in fiscal year 2009 and I believe it was around $8 million in fiscal year 2010. This covered our operating expenses and provided extra funding for the hospital to pay for new equipment and treatments for our active duty soldiers (especially our wounded heroes). Just thought you all might find that interesting.

Unfortunately, if you retire with a disability, they take away an apple for every orange you get.
I resent anyone calling someone else “mentally retarded.” However, I’ll make an exception and declare Mr. Gage as such.
The reason for my exception is my younger brother, who was mentally challenged from being delivered placenta prima which deprived him of oxygen during his birth. He had an IQ around 70 and struggled to get through high school (where he once had a tooth broken when he stood up for himself when a thug called him “Stupid.”)
He had a heart of gold and worked at blue collar jobs until he died suddenly, 10 days after his 25th birthday, from an allergic reaction to some medication prescribed for an injury he suffered at work.
When he started his last job he made my daughter (his only niece at the time) the beneficiary of his life insurance policy stating, “So she can go to college.” (she was 2 years old at the time).
My daughter graduated college debt free 20 years later thanks to my little brother. I call him a hero and I miss him greatly.
Mr. Gage and his ilk should count their blessings that they can strive for a better life using their God-given abilities without having to struggle with a handicap. They should EARN their pay, not demand it from the taxpayers.
If they want more money, they should do what my little brother did, he worked hard at the job he was in at the time, he applied himself in preparing for a better job and then he went and got hired for those better paying jobs!
In closing, he once went to a local Mexican restaurant in Colorado Springs (Mission Inn, although better known as Spike’s — now closed) and asked for a job. Spike told him he wasn’t hiring, but my brother returned the next day and told him he wanted a job bussing tables. Spike hired him on the spot. My Dad always kidded my brother that he wanted to know the secret recipe for Spike’s margaritas. However, my little brother had the integrity (which he got from my Dad) to not give it to him and the whole family respected him for his loyalty to Spike. His loyalty continued even after he left Spike’s for a better job — he took that recipe to the grave with him.
Public Sector unions are a rich source of political cash, organizing and votes. We are paying for our own destruction. But pensions and benefits of every type are crashing-demographics is paramount. When governments at all levels try to seize 401s and IRAs to prop up public pensions we shall see if that is the damn buster.
The crash is coming.

HI NAIL49–#55. Great story on your little brother. I went to church with 2 young kids who had Down’s Syndrome. Nice kids–and it hurt to see my own kids advancing normally as they struggled to learn.

But they have been able to complete basic educations and are working part time. One folds boxes in a pizza joint and acts as the greeter there. His boss says that he is one of his best workers.

I have been impressed with Sarah Palin’s books telling about what a blessing her son Trig is to her and her family. And how God gave her the strength to bring him into the world. A person’s character shows when things get tough–and they make the right decisions.

Hats off to your brother! Wisdom is IQ independent.
I second AlohaGuy’s comment to you as well nail49. Outstanding!!! God Bless your brother.
I too, have such a relative in the extended family. He has far more integrity, generosity and emotional intelligence than most everyone I have ever met. I don’t scorn these people for being who they are, I thank my lucky stars I have/had the chance to get to know them very, very well. Functioning a bit more slowly, or at a lower level, doesn’t diminish the humanity such people possess.
What hatred lurks in the heart of Mr. Gage against such people anyhow?
I hope the NAMI is paying attention to Mr. Gage’s comments.
rocketman and AlohaGuy: Thanks for your comments.
As head usher in a church I went to a few years ago, we had a young man, Tom, who had Downs Syndrome as well as Tourette’s. The first day he came to our church he was getting up and moving from seat to seat during the sermon and talking to those he sat with. I knew this bothered the preacher so I went and asked him if he would like to sit with me. From then on Tom always sat with me and together we would sing the hymns (although he didn’t know the words he knew the tune and his singing was about as good as mine — after all, we are to “make a joyful sound to the Lord”, nobody says it is supposed to be harmonious!). Tom also greatly enjoyed shaking hands with as many of other worshipers as he could during our ‘meet and greet’ time — I often had to take him by the hand and lead him back to our seats.
One day Tom’s ride didn’t pick him up after church, so I told him I would get him to his group home, although I had no idea where he lived. We set off and at each intersection Tom let me know which way I was to proceed. We got him home quickly with no wrong turns.
Seeing this young man, who worked at a local Giant store bagging groceries, come and worship (and he always had a handful of pennies that he would count out into the offering plate, one at a time!) was a delight. I often wished others would have his faith and his heart!
PhredE: Thanks for your comments as well. May God bless your family member too.
Indeed, these very special people truly have a humanity, caring and love deeper than the liberals who claim to be a caring and loving sort. Actions do speak far louder than words!

Big difference between govt pension and military pension.
TrueSoldier, very interesting. Why couldn’t you do you job as an independent contractor. Why do we need the middle men? That is the union, the managers, etc? And why couldn’t you do it out of your own house? This in my opinion is where we save money. We should be moving to people being their own company rather than being a lifetime government worker.
Another bogus attempt at logic.
Hitler was also a vegetarian. Does that mean that vegetarians are now like Hitler? See the problem with your lame comment?
Good questions and here are some of the answers:
This is actually being considered. I would absoulutely love this as I would get an initial pay cut, but the fact that if I were able to get a salary + commision like my private sector counter parts I could easily nearly double my current salary (hard work pays off). Not to mention I am sure the private sector would run things far more efficient than the government would. This would require less workers to do the job and the contractor could make sure that the people were not only qualified to do the job, but that they actually perform (I could tell you stories of both).
We don’t
It really would not be cost effective. The reason for this is the amount of security involved as this is a system connected to the DoD secure network. The cost to get a system that would meet the stingent security requirements would be too much of an investment for a single individual to come up with on their own. With the amount of work that is actually done (by those who do work hard and are actually qualified, which is about half the staff) it is far too much for one individual to keep up with.
I will say that the pension is a nice plus, but we as a nation cannot afford the pension. I am all for adopting a private sector take of funding your own retirement (I have been putting away money for years and continue to do so).
There is two things that keep me from seriously looking for a private sector job. First, job security. With the economy the way it is I am better off staying put for the time being. Secondly, my 11 years of military time (I was medically discharged and receive a VA disability check monthly for my injuries)do count towards my retirement.
Thanks true soldier (which you are). As an independent contractor for 15 years (even including work for homeland security) I recommend it. One could even subcontract work. It encourages professionalism, efficiency, dedication and solutions. It is the exact opposite of unionization (I frankly believe the concept of employee has NO constitutional status, just as corporation).
And bueracratic management too. The one person who is freaking out the most at my office about the possibility of our job being contracted out is our supervisor. Of course she is just smart enough to realize that she will be out of a job as she has no idea how to manage anything and is a big part of the problem (even though management is not part of the union or under union bargaining aggrements).
Could you elaborate on what you mean by that? What constitutional status are you referring to?
Unions are just plain evil. They don’t care about the union members only care about making more money for the union bosses!
